After
last weeks get together at the
Oscar Wilde Johnny was given the reigns to select and organise this weeks up and coming "Thursday night drinks", with a total of 12 people last week it seems that this weeks numbers may grow slightly. Pull round introduce yourself and have a few rounds

Hi there! I'll come along too. Have never been to Cafe Morgenrot before, the website looks... interesting! See you later.

Nov 2 2006, 3:36 pm
So, just to recap, and assuage my inner "Editor Bob"-like urge to organise.
What? A meet-up, it be true.
When? 20 hundred hours or to the lay person "8"
Where? Morgenrot, Kastanienallee 85, U-Bahn Eberswalderstrasse, Prenzlauerberg. If, like me, you're used to sunnier climes, I recommend taking the tram from there, although the walk isn't too far, and get off at the "Schwedter Strasse" stop, and then backtrack a little.
Come one, come all.
With frosty aloofness,
Johnny Superman

hey all, i'm new to this forum and was wondering what the average age is in these meetups. early twenties or thirty somthings? thanks
wiggle
Nov 3 2006, 11:26 am
Yes. : )
For the two meetups this week, there seemed to be a range of ages right along the spectrum, from really mature people in their early twenties, to totally immature thirtysomethings. ; )
Had a great time last night! Was really nice just to get out and chat with some good folks. We had a great turnout and ended up sort of taking over the back room of the bar. Thanks to Johnny for setting things up and looking forward to next week!

Nov 3 2006, 2:43 pm
Sad I missed it guys, but happy the turnout was good. Will be sure to try harder to make the next one.
Did we pick a place or an organizer for the next one?
globalgirl
Nov 3 2006, 3:08 pm
We had a fantastic turnout of over 24 people. Johnny captivated everyone with his fancy words and managed to double the turnout of the previous week.
My sidekick (or am I hers...) Nadine will be in charge of leading next weeks all night underground rave/pub gathering with civilised chat.
Details to come soon.

So as I was leaving
Cafe Morgenrot Thursday night somehow someone slipped a rather pointy baton into my back pocket (those sneaky Irish). Luckily there was a note attached that said
ZMF might be a supurb meet-up spot for thirsty people. I checked out the webpage, having never been there, and agree with the suggestion. So shall we say 8pm Thursday (Nov. 9th). Those of you whom know me by the alias Nadine might remember what I look like. For those of you new to my impressive 148 cm stature, I will have a picture posted soon.

Okay, seems a bit lame to be replying to my own posting however it has been called to my attention that some of the newer folk might need a re-cap of the infamous Thursday Night Drinks in Berlin. And so I present to you:
Thursday Night Drinks: A Brief History
It was a chilly Berlin October night when sitting in her room alias globalgirl found Toytown. There she read the outcries of the Berlin English speaking community "Who, oh Who will meet up for a drink?" many were the responces of I will but not one person seemed to take the next necessary step, walk the plank, put there neck on the line and many other cliched statements, to designate a time, a place, a date. Without too much pacing back and forth, globalgirl doned her superhero cape and organized the first night at The
Oscar Wilde. And a fair showing it was for a first event. It was there that the baton was dropped into Johnny's coat pocket whilst he wasn't looking. He evidently went home, channeled the spirit of a long dead bard and posted an invite people could not refuse and they all flocked to Kastanien Alle. In complimenting Johnny on his choice of venue , the ever moving baton was snuck into Nadira's pocket (for rest of this story see posting one). And so it has become a bit of a thing now. Last week our numbers had at least doubled to 25 or so from the first week. Can we double it again...could it be possible... We'll only know on Thursday night.
It seems that Johnny and few people may have
congregated at ZMF last night (sat.) so if you have anything to add about the venue...please do. Here is the link to visit the website:
zurmoebelfabrik.de Until then,
Ciao

Afraid I won't be able to make it this thursday. Going to a "Sex in Dallas" concert. Come to think of it, I won't be able to make it the week after that either as I'm going to a "Sebastien Tellier" concert. Hmm. Boo-urns says I. For a good cause though. Self-enrichment and personal enlightenment are good causes, right? Guess I'll have to see ye at weekends.

Belle: Why not both thurs and Frid?
readers: I think that is a FABULOUS idea...
Belle: Think we can get Johnny to organize the Friday excursion???
readers: dunno...maybe...if we're lucky...
Belle: Well...i think he'd be a top contender for the position of social coordinator...and then...he might be able to fill us in about this "Sex in Dallas" concert...! Being a good Dallas girl myself, I'll require a full briefing!

So myself and Nadira, sitting next to me, have a very firm... we don't really care what day stance on which day we meet.
Would everyone be cool with meeting up on Friday evening?
We...I mean Nadira is contemplating a change in venue as well epecially if it is a friday night, previous suggested venue may be a little loud and clubby after a while.
Open to suggestions...the baton holding rules are flexible...
Otherwise we, er... I mean Nadira will come up with an idea by tomorrow.

Hey, I have an idea - how about we do the book swap on Thursday to ease us into the weekend with literary pursuits, and then reserve Friday for the real party?
I would suggest Scotch & Sofa on Kollwitzstrasse for the swap on Thursday night, earlyish, 7:30 or 8, so we can claim enough space on the couches either upstairs or down. Not only does the place have a great name, but it's a cozy spot on a dark winter evening. : )
Suggestions for Friday:
Altes Europa (Gipsstrasse) - old-style bar/cafe, good spot for sitting and chatting, kinda similar to Morgenrot.
Hotelbar (Zionskirchstrasse) - Lively little cellar bar, DJ who usually does soul/pop/80s and a tiny dance floor, but good for just socializing too. Doesn't open until 10, though.
I am planning on coming, so anywhere is fine with me. We await your instructions, ladies.

I'm game for any of the above places on Friday - it's easier for me to come out to play since I don't have to be up so early the next morning. As long as I can get an address/directions I should be good to go.
Looking forward to it!
~Rose
* Ok so nevermind.. I just got told I get to work the weekend

, so I have off Friday instead. Perhaps I'll just go on Thursday if you want to keep it on Thursday.

Ok so it seams I'll be going against the grain here by I do prefer Thursday nights.
Only because i have family commitments at the weekends (I work in Berlin travel home at weekends).
Would be great if we could keep regular week night. It would be a good way to brake-up the week (relax out of work / just something to do).
Thanks,

will be visiting berlin for the week (from munich) so def. up for thursdaynite! who should i be on the lookout for...?
globalgirl
Nov 7 2006, 9:52 am
seems there are several hands up for both days, so here's the plan.
Since reports show that ZMF doesn't really get going until 11-ish and is more club like, we ---um I (Nadira---my internet conection is down and using globalgirl's computer) thought a change of venue was required.
Thus we shall congregate:
Scotch & Sofa on Kollwitzstrasse- Thursday at 7:30pm for drinks, bring a book too if you want to do a swap.
Altes Europa (Gipsstrasse) - Friday 8pm. for mingling. Those interersted in going out afterwards for dancing and/or music can discuss their game-plan here.
see you there

I will come for drinks tomorrow - be great to meet a few faces. I'm a newbie here, but i was wondering if anyone would like to join me maybe for food/drinks on wed eve(15th)? It'll be my birthday - and I don't know too many people in Berlin! My friend from London has had to cancel her planned visit - I'm not sure what to do instead.. It would be really nice to meet some new people. Thought it a good idea to put it to you guys! Not sure where to go yet, but I live very close to Gippstrasse where drinks will be tomorrow.
If anyone fancies meeting up, please drop me a line!
Thanks - Melanie

The location changes, but the spirit remains the same: show up, have a drink, hang out with some fellow expats. Easy peasy and open to all.
I'm taking the baton and turning it into a magic wand and ta-da! A night out to meet new people and get to know the old ones better.
Join us at August Fengler, Lychener Strasse 11 (Prenzlauer Berg), at 8 p.m., this Thursday, Nov. 16. We'll be the ones speaking loudly in English, can't miss us.
Who's in? Don't be shy. We're all new here, and we mostly don't bite. Looking forward to seeing everyone.
