Applying for a work permit in Munich

Advice on how and where to do this

Hi all,

I have got an offer from a company. Actually they have to apply for the work permit but they told me to do by myself. KVR doesn't issue work permits and I don't know how to deal with this process. Where is the office in Munich who deals with work permits. Please help me in this matter and the process.

Regards.

Not sure about where in Munich, but mine was done at Foreigners Authority in Bonn. Search for the address of Ausländerabteilung in Munich. May be that helps.

Are you currently in Germanland? If so, pop down to the KVR, speak to the lovely welcoming staff, get the forms you require, return to the KVR with filled out forms and required bits of paper. They will send this to the Arbeitsamt who will approve or reject your application. This is how I did mine anyways.

Good luck, cos doing this normally sucks arse and is a complete lifewaster

In Munich I think you need to go to the Agentur for Arbeit (aka Arbeitsamt),

Agentur für Arbeit München
Kapuzinerstr. 26
80337 München, Germany

What Nationality is the OP?
Are they already living in Germany?
Do they have a valid living permit?
Is it a restricted Permit? (Student, Aupair, etc)

The Living and work permit and now the same thing, and have been since 1 Jan 2006. No need to goto the Arbeitsamt, only the KVR.

I noticed that there is now a KVR office in Rotkreuzplatz but I'm wondering if they do all the same things as the 'big' KVR. It is definitely more convenient than clear on the other side of town (for me, at least).

Not necessarliy, just 2 weeks ago the Ausländerbehorde sent us to the Arbeitsamt where we picked up a very nice "arbeitserlaubnis" form . I guess who does what depends on the situation.

No - the KVR at Rotkreuzplatz is only for anmeldung and ummeldungen. They don't have an Ausländerbehörde, which is what you need.

Hi

Currently i am out of Germany. For any work permit queries, whom to contact in KVR, which KVR office is better? If I try to contact over the PHONE to any KVR, people over there cannot understand the English even though they claim they can speak little English.

Or is it better to approch any lawyer for work permit extensions. Can anyone post the lawyer addresses who is economically affordable?

Cheers

Are you coming over here with a company/job offer or just coming over and trying from here??
cinzia
Masterboy, you need a job before you can get a work permit.

If you already have a job or job offer, you will need evidence from the company (a letter) confirming that you have a job, which is one of the things you then take to the KVR for your work and residency permits.

Sorry if this is not helpful, but it's not clear from your original post why you couldn't go to the local KVR here and apply for the relevant permits, instead of applying from out of the country.

What are the documents that are needed for Work permit change from one COMPANY A to COMPANY B

if i know these,i can get some of them (if required while coming from my country)

i.e why i was trying to call KVR,
Timmeh
Just wait until you arrive, head to the KVR with your contract/letter form employer and the robots at the KVR will tell you all you need to know and give you all of the required forms
cinzia
Seconding Timmeh. Just wait to deal with it when you arrive. Hopefully Company B's HR department will have some experience with what US citizens need to get their work permits and will give you an appropriate letter.

If you want to try and have a look at some of the forms in advance, here is a list of downloadable ones from the KVR. Keep in mind that you might need other forms than you think you need, though.

A tip whenever dealing with the KVR: set aside two dates to go there. It's common to go there the first time and not have the correct paperwork/documents, and have to make a return trip.

Currently I have a position with a company in Munich; unfortunately they will not give me a work permit. Is this normal? How can I obtain a work permit without a contract? I have a friend owns a successful business although I do not want to work for them; can I obtain a work permit from them while working somewhere else? I have not lived in Germany for three years, although I have a resident permit from last year. Anything helps PLEASE!

I think you need to be more specific about the details of your situation in order for people to be able to make helpful suggestions.
