Hi, unfortunately I can't keep any hairgrips, slides, etc. on my little girls hair and at this stage
her hair is actually going into her eyes. It pains me to have to cut it or get it cut but it has to be done.
Has anybody an advice as to where I can get it cut or should I just chance doing it myself by trimming a little
fringe?
Looking forward to your advice

Unless you want a proper haircut - you should attempt a cut of the fringe yourself. My son who is nearly two years old has had his haircut three times... There is a specialist children's hairdresser called Noemi and Friends near Muenchner Freihiet... (please do a search for more specific information). And keep a lock of hair for memory's sake... smile.gif

I think just cutting the fringe yourself is not a bad idea, you will only need to take a very small bit off.

How old is she? I remember wanting to get my little girl's hair cut (she had a pretty long full head of hair when she was born, so by the time she was a few months old it was in her eyes...)

All the hairdresser's I tried told me they don't cut baby's hair until they get to a certain age, but that was here in Berlin, don't know what it's like elsewhere.
We just trimmed her hair ourselves in the end.

My son is 19 months and he dint have a hair cut. Luckily he has curly hair and it is not that disturbing. And specially when a he has a head bath it is lovely to see his hair. So we are not planning for his hair cut.

My wife puts a pony when she leaves him in the water tub, in order to not wet his hair while playing in the water.

Mini-cinzia got a little fringe trim a couple of weeks ago when I was getting my hair cut. I missed out on the action, though, because my husband consented to the trim while I was elsewhere in the salon being shampooed! Since it was our long-standing "family Friseurin" who did it, she didn't charge anything. I was sorry I didn't get to see it, though I guess it was no big deal (I didn't hear it, either wink.gif ).

I think it's a good idea to do it yourself at home the first couple of times, especially if the child is very young - the surroundings will be familiar (as well as the person wielding the scissors biggrin.gif) so she'll be less likely to fidget, and you can show her that having your hair cut is something ordinary, that it doesn't hurt, etc.

My son was born with a full head of hair and it grows at an amazing rate. This means that I have to cut his hair every couple of months! There is no way he will let a hairdresser near him (tried it once in England when we went with his uncle and cousin to the barber - BIG mistake!), so I have to do it myself.

When he was a baby, I'd dampen his hair gently and trim his fringe while he was asleep! His dad would catch the hair as it fell. As the little fella got mobile, but couldn't sit still, it was more of a struggle, even in front of the telly, so he often ended up with a lopsided job!

Our family hairdresser has always been willing to give it a go, but so far she's not been given the chance. Now, after almost 4 years of me snipping away at home, he is quite happy to sit patiently on a stool, watching his favourite video, and I have finally got the hang of it! It's been a fun challenge! I always have a soft brush handy so he can brush the hairs from his face, and we now have one of those hair-cutting umbrella thingies which catches most of the hair.

My boy had a full head of hair when he was born. He had his his first hair cut when he was just a month old. I cut his hair with baby nail scissors because they had rounded tips. I didn't touch his fringe then because he had a bit of a Don King thing for about 10 months. I did cut around his ears & the back and I have kept the first lock of hair I cut.

He is nearly 3 years old now. I cut his hair every 2 months. He's quite good about the whole thing and keeps still when I'm trimming around the ears. ( Believe me that's a feat for an active toddler) I think he's just knows the routine and have gotten used to it.

The question of whatever you go to a hairdresser or doing it yourself is matter of whatever you feel comfortable with it. As long you feel good / confident about tackling the job yourself, it will be a better experience for you & your baby. Otherwise, it woud be much better to get a professional to do it.

In saying that, if they are little and only needs a trim, it may be easier to do it at home when they're asleep. If you don't feel you can do it, get your partner or a friend.

Good luck!! Remember, the hair will grow back even it is a diasaster. Well...that's what I told my husband when one of my hair cutting attempts went wrong.

Third time lucky as our son also had a full head of hair from day 1. We have however found the simplest way to deal with at least a boys haircut. It's called rechargeable clippers, no wires just buzz and run... laugh.gif He actually quite like it like a head massage type thing, PLEASE note babies heads are very delicate so I don't recommend it in the first few months!!

We also tried a Professional hairdresser once, we were in China at the time and the guy was very patient compared to the 11 month old 'has to move all' the time toddler. Fun to watch though!!

Regards
Andy
