Hey all,
My name is Toby and I moved with my partner to Berlin late last year in search of a different life. I'm originally from Perth, Western Australia and first came to Berlin about 4 years ago on a holiday. I loved it so much I decided to move here.
Its been tricky meeting friends here, my German is pretty bad and I tend to work fairly long hours (for an Audio post production studio in Mitte). So I decided to check out Toytown and see if anyone would like to meet up for a drink or a night on the town ?
I'm easy going and looking to make some new friends.
Cheers,
Toby

And oh, I'm scandinavian but speaking good english, hope that´s ok for the Thursday night meetings

I've been a member on this site since november - but I guess I've never actually introduced myself... I have lived in Berlin Since October.
I'm originally from California (but I was born in Texas and moved to cali as an infant). I'm 26, will be having a birthday in June. I am recently married. My husbands British. I like to cook (Mexican, Indian, Iranian, traditional British and American styles, Italian). I enjoy reading and writing as well. I have a sarcastic sense of humor which offends some - fortunately I was also blessed with the gene that allows me to not give a damn... I'll only apologize if I've made you cry :-P
I enjoy reading the posts on here and find the information on here informative for the most part, and I like to add things I learn to help others. I am not a fan of the German ways of doing things and find them rather mundane and ignorant. If it wasn't for Hubby's job I'd be leaving as fast as I could. I have little desire to learn German, but have recently purchased a book called Wicked German. I find it has helpful phrases for when these pesky germans cut in front of me in line or shove me on a train.
Here are some of my favorites :
Seien sie kein idiot (Don't be an idiot)
Ja! Ich bin en teufel anarchist amerikaner! ( Yes I am a devil anarchist american)
Sie gehoren in den gepackwagen ( You belong in the baggage car)
Wer hat dich denn aus dem kafig herausgelassen ( who let you out of your cage ?)
I would like to find a job here, I think it would help me integrate into this little society in a nutshell. Then I might actually feel more at home and want to learn the language. There is hope yet I suppose, but time will tell.
I am always up for meeting up with other chicks during the day for coffee, shopping, movies ( sorry to discriminate against the boys my husband simply wouldn't allow it). If you're a couple though, we do like to host dinners and get togethers with other English speakers.

Hi,
My conscience pushed me to drop a few lines here too.
Unlike universities, there is no ragging here for newcomers. Thanks god
I am a newcomer in Berlin. My story goes like-I was running a humble ad agency(with my cousin) in Kathmandu, Nepal and giving Himalayan Yoga lessons. Then my girlfriend(German) came over to Nepal. And rest, as they say back home, is ridiculous.I handed over my company and profession and landed straight in Berlin.
So here I am as a normal newcomer, hunting for jobs, networking for friends and in the process getting amazed and perplexed.
So I am looking forward to mingle with creative like-minders in and outside Toy-town's virtual reality.
Thank you all for keeping English alive in Berlin!!
Cheers

Hi!
My name is Haike and I’m a German native. I lived in the US for a couple of years and I really miss talking to native English speakers.
I’m 20 and currently a student at the Freie Universität Berlin. I’m looking for new people to meet and hang out with, go to the movies, musicals, museums…
I’d be happy to hear from others looking to get to know new people.

Hey everyone,
my name is Uta and I got to this website through my sister who is already registered here. (Lamel) I've lived in Berlin for 6 months now, but I really miss New York and the people there. I also miss speaking english very much. I love going out, doing sports and just chilling with nice poeple. I'm always open to new things and I'd love to meet new people who love speaking english as much as I do.

Hi,
My name is Kurtis and I just arrived in Berlin yesterday. Originally from North Carolina, I took a job with my company here and I don't know a soul. However, I enjoy meeting new people and would be up for about anything. My interests include playing and watching football (soccer), visiting museums - art and history - and going out for drinks. Feel free to send me a message!

Hi all!
My name is Shinu and I've been in Berlin for about three weeks but this is the first time I've been on this site. I'm 24, female (I know, the name doesn't exactly give it away) and I actually was looking for some place to watch the Superbowl which brought me here, so some people to watch it with would be great too
Besides that, I really just want to meet some cool people here and have a good time - I love this city!

Hello my wife and I have been here for 3 weeks now and loving it. I'm American and she is Malaysian. So we are quite the International family. We are both teachers and taught English in Prague for the past year. Before that we were teaching in Bangladesh. Right now we are going through the working visa process but we really want to make Berlin home. Its International and its right between our two families. Much nicer to take a 12 hour flight to Malaysia than a 21-26 hour flight from America. Anyways we are always up for meeting new people so drop us a line. We love to travel, and do things in the outdoors, also theatre and music are equally important to both of us as well. We are learning German at the moment but our class isn't that great, and we are both rather disappointed...so we are open to some suggestions on the Deutsch learnin. We could always exchange an English lesson for a Deutsch lesson too...

Hi Toytowners, I'm a Teuton and hope welcome all the same, I've been in Berlin for almost two years but moved here from London, where I had been living for 8 years (more or less). I'm working from home at the moment and the few good friends I had here have moved away (modern nomads that we are). So would be great to meet new people and speak English at the same time. I'm swiftly approaching 40 (scary Mary!) but tend to hang out with people 10, 15 years younger than I (not always an ego boost;-). I did triathlon way back and have done the Berlin Marathon a few times, besides that I have a background in documentary film-making and hence love to watch arty-farty films (with gritty realism high up on my list). I've read lots of posts here that mention what seems to be the 'Super Thursday' or legendary get-together. I have to pop by there, maybe today. Feedback from like-minders (and others) very welcome.

Hiya everyone
Just stumbled across this forum and spent way too much time reading old threads... it's fab!
Originally from UK south coast, I've been based in
Kreuzberg for several months now. Still making frequent trips back to UK for work meetings and stuff, but I'm making more of a life in Berlin now. I really like the vibe. I can relate to many of the experiences I've read about on this site - I adore the nightlife and clubs here (Berghain yay!) but making social connections is a challenge.
Can get by in German (mostly thanks to Michel Thomas tapes/Die Ärtze song lyrics/chatty local hairdresser) but accent needs serious attention. Work for a charity doing website/marketing things, and am also a counsellor and hypnotherapist. Haven't tried counselling in Berlin yet though... need better language skills first.
I enjoy arty things, music, eating out (another big Berlin plus point) and meeting new people, so hope to make it for a Thursday night drink soon. Anyone fancy a chat - drop me a line...
Cheers!

Gee.. that's a great way to meet people. Make them send you a PM when it's a chat forum...
Generally speaking, chat forums like this one are used to meet people, chat, and then put up a post for something to do. Show up - we're a friendly bunch, and start popping into the forums or the things that are already being organized. From there, yeah, you'll most likely get more PMs (once people know ya a bit) or phone numbers and a network going.
Not saying you won't get any PMs, just saying it's most likely you'll want to pop into a few events, or a few different chat topics and say hi. :-)

I just moved to Berlin to take German classes on a whim. I left the US to go run around Firenze because I have friends in Italy. I decided I don't really like Italy too much. I'm a 23 year old Californian. And I'm nice and funny. But I'm totally by myself, I'm going to GLS for classes...anywhere in particular that nice, funny, English/American/anybodythatspeaksenglishprettygood hang out?

Hey!
My name is Margaret (maggie), I am an American living in Potsdam. I graduated college in the States back in August with a Fashion/Business degree and by September I found myself here in Potsdam. I am currently seeking full-time employment; I didn't realize the job market here would be so tough. When I am not job searching I am playing basketball ( I play for the University women's team), swimming, running, shopping, out having a few drinks...you get the point, I am really active and can't stand to sit still. I stumbled across this site and thought it might be interesting to make use out of it. I would love to meet some fellow English speakers; hope to hear from you all soon!

Hello,
I am not exactly in Berlin yet, but will be there in exactly 2 months.
I am 22 years old, female, Canadian, currently finishing up my studies here and also trying to find a place to live in Berlin for the summer, hopefully in the P'berg/Mitte area as that's where my language school is located (GLS). I'll be taking intensive German courses for 4 months (May-August), just out of interest, and I might stick around for longer if I can find a job related to my university studies. If not, I'll have to go back to Canada, but that's ok. I'll come back later after I get some work experience, perhaps.

Hi All,
I'm Charleen, 28 yrs old and originally from the UK. I've lived in Scotland and Northern Ireland through the years and often have trouble deciding where I come from

so saying the UK is the best option here . I have been living and working in Berlin for a few years already so am not new to the city, just new to TT. I love meeting new people, going to clubs and bars and am also quite happy sitting watching football and rugby! Hopefully I will get along to one of the weekly meetings and be able to meet some of you soon.
Bye for now.

Hi all,
My name is Jess and I'm a 21 year old (law and politics) student from Sydney Australia. I've decided to take this year off uni to come to Germany and am going to be in Berlin for at least 6 months (have been here 1 month thus far) and I'm so so glad to have stumbled across this website - I'm living with a German family at the minute and am experiencing slight culture shock (I've never had to go out of my way to find someone who can speak english before!) and am absolutely craving a normal english conversation. Anyway, I love music, eating (love eating!), jogging and hiking (I find it helps balance out the love of eating) and going out and am really looking forward to discovering the bars and museums of Berlin. Will definitely try to get along to the Thursday night drinks this coming week.
Looking forward to (hopefully!) meeting you soon!

Hey everyone -
My name's Joey and I'm another American expat living in Berlin - a bit new to this forum (never posted just read old posts) but have lived in Berlin for a year and a half now. My German is okay - I can get by but not have a true in depth conversation and all of my German friends speak near perfect English anyway. Would love to meet some more expats - will probably go to the Thursday night drink meet up this week if the nasty weather doesn't keep me inside.

Hi everyone. My name is Tatiana, I am from America. I've been in Germany since February, but I was in Mainz until last weekend when I came up to Berlin. Now I'm staying in Charlottenburg for a month. I'm from a super small town in Massachusetts called Ipswich. It's pretty cool, but this is the longest I've been away from the states and on my own so it would be great to meet some new people. Also, I have two cute chihuahuas that are staying with my folks and I'm missing them something fierce, so any distraction from that would be great! I'm thinking about checking out the Thursday night drink meet up tonight.

Hi, I'm Jenni and I am very new to Berlin (literally just set myself up in my flat last Saturday) and registered here literally seconds ago. I'm from Glasgow in Scotland and have been browsing the forum for a few months prior to my move out to the city. I've never lived away from Glasgow/on my own - so it's all a big step and a bit intimidating. Also, the fact that my German is really rusty isn't helping matters, so I'm considering a language course at a local Sprachschule. I had considered looking for some part time work, but at the moment my German isn't particularly great - so i'm thinking the course is a good idea.
I know practically no one here, but have a fantastic neighbour and a couple of contacts from previous flat-hunting trips to Berlin. So, maybe I'll join the Toytown crew!
Jenni.

I am from Oregon, USA and I am an au pair for a year while I figure out what I want to do with my life. I am 23 and just graduated college...and have no clue what to do. So here I am. My german is horrible but I am taking classes so hopefully it will get better. Anybody wanna get coffee or something just let me know.
Hi, I just found this forum not too long ago and found it to be interesting. I have been living here in Berlin with my husband (a German) for some time now. I was born in the Philippines and moved to the states when I was a child. I have a 7 month old daughter and is really looking to meet up with other couples for some English conversations. Most of my friends were from my German language school and now they all have moved to different places. So, hope to meet some new friends.

Hi,
Been on the forum a couple of months but never actually got around to introducing myself.. I'm a 27 year old guy and I work in sound mainly but tend to have a few little things bubbling away at any given time. I moved here in December because last year I visited for a weekend and made a mental list of 100 reasons its better to live here than in the UK, plus I felt it was time to open some new doors, so.. Here I am. Opening them there doors.
Since arriving Ive been kind of busy and away a lot but now I'm here for a good stretch so its time to start expanding my circle of friends beyond the handful of people I already know here, most of whom are involved the music/club scene so it would be nice to meet some random people from different walks of life to mix things up a little. It would actually be really handy to meet more people who are also in the Charlottenburg area for last minute beers/coffee etc, everyone I know thus far seems to live in
Kreuzberg for some reason.. not that it matters really but I'm just a lazy git
I'm an easy going guy, happy to converse on most levels and comfotable in most situations. Not pretentious and a good laugh so if you are in the same boat as me & you think we'd get on then by all means drop me a pm and we'll hang out sometime

Hi all,
My name is Xander and I am Dutch lived in South Africa for a couple of years where I met my wife and had a son with her, he turned 1 this Feb. I moved to Berlin because of a joke I had with my father October last year about taking over the lease on his apartment, November I was here and February my wife and son. I've also been coming to the forum for some time and only saw this post now about an intro.
I live in Charlottenburg, I really like my area, eventhough some say it's for old people and snobs, I'm neither. I'm a .NET developer, working in the Treptower area and thankfully I live 2 minutes from the S-Bahnhof of Charlottenburg, thus not much trouble with the strikes.
Also looking to meet some new people, so far it has only been work and hardly any play.

I have recently arrived in Berlin from California and live with my boyfriend. Unfortunately he spends most of his days at work so I am usually alone all day long. It would be really nice to meet people who have similar interests and to network. I enjoy trying out new restaurants, sight seeing, lounge bars, coffee shops, etc. I woud love to see more of this wonderful city but it would be nicer to have company as I am lost in this big city. Hope to receive some replies.

Hello!
My name is Stephen, I come from Galway in the west of Ireland but lived in Dublin most of my life until February this year when I moved to Berlin. I don't speak a word of German which makes things rather interesting but I plan to start taking lessons as soon as the company I work for start paying me into my brand new German bank account (any day now)! I just turned 30 recently so my moving from a country with one of the youngest populations in Europe to a country with one of the oldest seems quite apt!
My hobbies include memorising the catalogue numbers of techno records, trying to make weird sounds come out of my computer, films that don't make sense and regular binge drinking. I'm a big fan of the Berlin club scene, and not a big fan of the mass non-acceptance of credit cards. I managed to find an apartment in Prenzlauer Berg which is three times the size of my Dublin apartment, and cheaper too (although Dublin is the 16th most expensive city in the world according to last year's Mercer index thingie, just under New York!). I'm always available for a pint or two, my only request is that it not be in an Irish Pub. Trust me, these things you call
Irish Pubs have nothing go to do with the real thing whatsoever! :)

Hi,
I ahve been a memeber of this forum since november, but have only just made across the Berlin last week. I 20 years old and from Sheffield (the land of the strong and northern). Im here for a year (maybe more if it works out good) as an Au Pair living on the Mitte kreutzberg border. Which is a compleate lifesytle change, because i have just left behind a life of club, partying and hedonism. But everything gets boring after a while.
Im still up for the odd night out dancing, but my focus is on working hard while im here.
im mainly looking for friends at the moment, anyone!! all ages and nationallities. Im a big fan of the germans idea of Kaffee und kuchen. so if anyone wants to join me one day drop me a PM. also, if anyone knows where to get cheap Dairy milk in Berlin, please let me know.

p.s. you may have noticed if you have read any of my posts i cannot spell fr my life. Please just get over it. i did!

I just became a member of this forum and thought I should introduce myself. My name is Kala and I’m from a small town in Washington State. I moved to Berlin on a whim and am currently working as an Au Pair. I’ve been living here little over a month and am not yet able to speak German. I plan to take a language course starting May but in the mean time I’m desperate to get out, meet some people, and hopefully make a few friends!

Hello all,
My name is David. I'm from Cork, Ireland. I'm 25. I got here two days ago, but it was something I was planning for a long time. I'm hoping to survive without working for a few months or longer so can do some writing. I'm living in the unpronounceable (for me) Friedrichshain district. I speak nearly no german (some phrase-book learnograms), which I find a little intimidating but I'm looking forward to learning. Also it's so DIFFERENT here! In a good way. MY days so far have been spent trying to figure out what I need for the flat and trying to find said items. I'm into film, photography and music (nine inch nails, the mars volta the knife etc etc), long walks by the beach and holding hands. Anyway, I'm always up for a gzelundtzel a coffee, a chilli burger at Yellow Sunshine or a cigarette (trying to quit... why'd they make them so cheap here???) so drop us a line. Could do with a chat! But I listen too so... anyway anyway...
Ciao,
DG.
