Hello there,
I'm a Scottish author/dad. I moved to Germany in 2003 and wished I had found this forum before now. Used to spend about seven months of the year back in Britain but since adopting my teenage siblings, we don't go back any more. It's been a year since I saw Scotland and all my friends. On the one hand, this was a good thing since it allowed me to finish my book (History of Freemasonry). But on the other hand my book is now finished and I have no chums in Berlin. I don't even have professional contacts outside of email.
I intend to annoy you all with repeated whining.

Hello all!
I've vistited this site a few times but only now decided to take the plunge and join... I'm a 20-year-old Canadian girl from Toronto, been living in Berlin-Mitte for close on 2 years now. Pretty much fluent in German by this point; since I came here to go to university and all, it was kind of a necessity. Before this spent some time in Bavaria, the Rhineland, and Austria as well, on summer exchanges and/or language courses, but love Berlin best, so decided to stick around! Besides that, I spend a lot of my free time playing in amateur/student orchestras, sitting in any one of this city's many movie theatres or spending what little money I do have on concert tickets. Met a few of you last year on Canada Day, so hoping for a repeat performance this year? Great fun except for the mosquitos. Hope to meet some of you again soon,
-Meara

Hello! My name is Winter and I'm new to this forum and soon will be new to Berlin as well. My husband will be moving there in June and I'll be following in July. We found this site together and are excited to meet the great folks who contribute all of this wonderful information.
We're looking forward to meeting others who are interested in art, music (especially the electronic kind

), trying new foods and exploring fun places. I'm a massage therapist/DJ/producer-in-the-works/jill of all trades and my husband works for a famous artist who will be relocating him to Berlin to help her complete her next body of work. On his downtime he loves museum trips to shooting pool & drinking good beer to video games
Thank you for having us!

Hi all,
I'm thrilled to say that I'll be moving to Berlin at the end of the first week of June. I've been reading some of the threads on Toytown in preparation...and for the very helpful information.
About me: I'm a 28 year-old male, born in England but bred in the U.S. I've been in graduate school for the past few years in California (I'm going to miss the weather...), but after spending two summers in Berlin ('05 and 06...during the World Cup!), I've decided to move there more permanently. I have just found temporary housing in P-Berg for the summer and will be taking an intensive German course at the German Language School on Kastanienallee, while I search for a job/internship. I've got a couple of good leads, but it seems like you can't really make headway until you're in Berlin yourself.
I'm looking to meet lots of new people while I improve my German and get settled in - English and non-English speakers alike. I'll probably go to one of the TT meetups in late June, but I'd be happy to meet up with TT people for a night on the town as well.
I'm just so excited to be moving to Berlin; I've never been anywhere else quite like it, and I've had more fun there than anyone really deserves.
At some point later in the summer, I'd definitely be interested in starting a reading group - 19th and 20th century fiction, I was thinking. I've been a teacher of sorts here in the U.S., and I would love to put something together along those same lines. I'll set up a thread a bit later on to guage interest.
I hope to meet a number of you in June!
Bis bald!

Hey guys,
my name's Catherin and I'm new to this forum.. as you might guess from my name I'm German, but I hope that's okay.. I'm learning English for 14 years now (I'm almost 23), study anglistics for almost a year now and I love it with all my heart. The reason why I registered here is because I'd love to meet some people who are actually native speakers.
In return I'd love to help you learning German if you like..

Hi,
I’m Mike from London and I arrived here last month after living in Prague for 3.5 years.
I thought I should perhaps introduce myself now that I’m a little more settled and on the hunt for a few beer buddies. At 45, I’m seemingly a bit older than the average poster here but I’ve seen a few events advertised for the oldies so perhaps I’ll check them out at some point.
Anyway, I’m unlikely to post often – but at least you’ll know who I am when I do!

Hi Catherine,
My names Kyle. I'm 22, from Boston area US. I've been living in Berlin for maybe three months now, should be here through the end of the year. I'm doing an internship for Uni, but my man focus is having fun and partying. Unfortunately mein Deutsche ist Scheiße. I have learned almost nothing in my time here. All the people I interact with speak fluent English, but this is no excuse. It is inherently do to my utter laziness that I have learned nothing... I would like to change that. If you want to meet up some time and grab a drink, or whatever, definitely let me know. I don't have many friends in this city, and I really like to go out, so anyone else reading this - that wants to party - hit me up! Peace peace all.

Hi all,
my name is Polina, I'm 26, from Melbourne, Australia. I've moved here with my german/aussie hubby about 2,5 years ago... so not really new to Berlin, but just found this forum recently. I'm a programmer, but decided to turn my life around and now studying Psychology at Freie Universität - really enjoying it, although the scientific German is tough. Saw that you guys do Thursday night drinks, and other meet-ups. We're looking out to get to know some more people here, especially native English speakers, as we miss life back home in Melbourne. So hopefully we'll see some of you around at some of the meet-ups!
Have a good one!

Hello! My name is Katherine and I'm a 25 year old American (from California originally), and have been living in Berlin (
Kreuzberg) since New Year's. I came here to be closer to my German boyfriend, and have been taking intensive German language classes since my arrival to get my German up to speed (not so easy...). I would love to meet up with you all - my classmates at the language school tend to come and go pretty quickly back to their home countries, so it's been a bit harder to make friends here! Thursday drinks, perhaps? Thanks, and hope to hear from and see you soon!

Hi everyone!
I just realized that i have to change my username from Newbie to something else cos I am hardly a Newbie in Berlin anymore!!
My husband and I moved to Berlin a year and a half ago and we absolutely love the city. Not that age matters .. but FYI I am 32 and he is 40 ( but we both feel and look much younger... or atleast thats what we 'd like to believe

) My husband is German but not from Berlin and I am from India but have lived abroad for donkeys years and cannot proudly say that I am a typical Indian. We have travelled the whole world.. ( nearly!) and are very social. However our social lives have come to a standstill ever since we moved to Berlin! So this forum is fantastic really!!
My husband is interested in Sports ( which man isnt!) night outs .. ( i blame it on mid life crisis!) outdoor activities and is quite fun to hang out with!! My interests have suddenly changed from a series of wide activities to parenthood .. ( yeah we are expecting a little one in November!!))
Would be nice to meet other couples.. Germans.. non germans.. international... doesnt really matter !!
Wish you all a great sunny day.. Phew its 30 degrees today.. Im gonna go now and enjoy the sun wee bit now!

My name is Stephanie. I'm 29, Irish, and have just landed in Berlin! I'm here initially to study German at GLS for a month or so. If I can learn a few phrases and Berlin gets under my skin then I hope to land a job of some sorts and stay for the summer and maybe beyond...
I'm keen to settle in and make some friends here so hopefully get to meet some of you soon at the Thursday night drinks.

Hey!
I am Sarah, a native german.
Right now I am living in Amsterdam and I´ve spend some time in London and Gambia.
I experienced so much openness along the way and met great people, so I would like to stay in touch with the international community once I have moved to Berlin in 1-2 months to meet new people and to keep my english alive.
I am 22, originally from Hamburg, studying at the Open University UK (Social and Media studies via distance learning) and I am working a a freelancer in Marketing.
I hope you are not annoyed by some grammar mistakes or anything like that here and there. I will try to make up for it by giving some "native" advice on german bureaucracy.
I absolutely understand everyone who thinks it is hard to meet new people in Germany and I really think some of you where brave to relocate without any german. It starts in the bars, no one speaks to strangers. I was often sitting in London pups wishing Germany would be a little more like that.
Anyway, Berlin is a great city and I cant wait to get there and meet some of you on the meet ups.
I can recommend becoming a member on studivz
http://www.studivz.net/Start (for students) or meinvz
http://www.meinvz.net/ if you want to socialize with german people, it is much more popular than facebook and almost everyone is on there.
Cheers,
Sarah

Hi all,
I'm Justin, 27, moved here a few weeks ago from NYC. I'm a Californian (from LA/SF) but have lived in a few cities over the past few years, including NY, London and Paris. I've moved here for a year or so to work on a novel and enjoy this amazing city. I don't know many people in town and would love to meet anyone, feel free to contact me. I'm eager to work less and enjoy the nightlife more. Hope to meet some of you on Thursday!

HI,
I'm not new to Berlin anymore as I have been living here since last October. I've also been reading this forum for about the same amount of time, but I haven't posted much. My name's Philip, I am 28, and I am here working as a website developer. I am originally from London, and lived there all of my life before coming to Berlin, although I have travelled a lot.
Although I have been living here a while I still don't know that many people, mainly the people at work and a couple of other people from outside of work.
I must say living in Berlin is a breath of fresh air after living in London all my life. I didn't think it was possible to have a capital city with a transport system that actually works.
But anyway, I thought I'd introduce myself, so there it was.
Reading some of the posts on this forum is so funny, helps the day to go by much better sometimes. lol

Hi! I'm moving to Berlin next week, and thought I'd introduce myself.
Right now I live in Luebeck with my husband and our dog (and our turtles). We both come from the states and have been in Germany for four years now. I'm very very excited to be moving to Berlin!! Luebeck is boring and small (although quite lovely for a day or weekend trip - Germans seem to love this place).
We're both musicians - my husband studies conducting, and I'm a horn player.
I'm 28 and he's 32.
I think those are the basics... I'm looking forward to meeting some of you. Hopefully I'll make it to drinks night in a week or two!

Just moved across to Berlin and it's a bit scary! I'm currently living near Templehof, which seems a bit far from the city centre, but it seems a nice area.
I'm from the UK originally, but I tend to move around quite a bit.
I look forward to attending some Berlin meetups.

Hi everyone!
My name is Holly, I've been in Berlin about three weeks now and I am still finding my feet. I'm a 21 year-old languages student (French and German) at Oxford Uni in the UK, and being here is technically part of my degree, although my productivity thus far is questionable... I originally come from West Yorkshire, England but have spent most of the last year living on the French Caribbean island of Martinique. Needless to say I'm a bit disorientated, so I'm planning to come along to some of the meet-ups on Thursdays and maybe the German-English exchange too (my German suffered greatly from speaking exclusively French for eight months). I look forward to meeting some of you!

Hello everyone! I'm Michael, from Austin, Texas. I won't actually be living in Berlin for at least another year, but I'm in Europe scouting business opportunities, making and solidifying contacts, starting to figure out what will be involved in working and moving my family here for part of the year. At this moment I'm in Nuremberg, but I spent a couple of weeks in Berlin in May and June and will be back next week also, and I expect Berlin to become our toehold in Europe. I'm half-German and spent a lot of time in Germany growing up, and I've also lived in France and the Czech Republic, but this is the first time in ten years now that I've spent more than a few days in Europe. I currently make my living as a translator (German and Czech to English), and I'm working on a business to help American clean-tech SMEs develop markets in Europe.

I have done some travelling and lived in other countries and am really open to and interested in whoever you are. Work in Charlottenburg, live in Kreuzberg, but am flexible to meet wherever convenient. Will stop by at Thursday night get-toghthers. See you there or post me a message.

Hi all, today I arrived in my apartment in Prenzlauer Berg. I've been a couple of times in Berlin before, for holiday, and that got me so excited that I took another IT job in order to work from home, eh, here!
I am fond of music, especially jazz. I play the french horn and piano, and hopefully soon the sax. I like reading the New Yorker in a cozy cafe, and listening to spontaneous life music on the wunderschöne Admiralbrücke.
Looking forward to meet you all!

I found the Toy-Town when looking for jobs, there's not much for an ex-oil worker in Berlin i have to say!
Still, if anybody has any contacts to the chemical industry or anybody needs any help with Management Systems I'm all ears.
Might pop along to the weekly meet-up at some point to say hi.

Hi everyone
I am about to Berlin at the end of August to start teaching at one of the international schools. Big move as I'm coming from a wee Scottish island!
Need to start getting a life together out there, so it would be great to have some contacts built up before I get there. Also, if anyone knows of a nice apartment (that is happy to have a v well behaved doggy in it!) on the west side of the city that would be cool. I may even consider a room share.
Love sports, cinema and very excited about seeing all the cool stuff in Berlin. My German is none existent so help in all departments would be appreciated.
hope to see you all soon!
