The pay gap (in reverse)

Women know your place (aye, holding the wallet)

Although the pay gap between men and women still exists in many areas (with men being worse off in some fields), UK Equal Opportunities Commission put the number of female partners in full-time employment earning the same as or more than the male at 25% in 1996/97. According to today's Daily Mail that figure has gone up to 40% (I can't find where they got that figure from but what the heck).
Interesting that those women interviewed are in more creative fields.
So, non-scientific population of TT, are you bothered about who earns more?
kitkat64
What's your definition of non-scientific? I keep arguing with my boyfriend who says he makes less money than me (not really because he doesn't pay for his car).
Katrina
It was in "non-scientific population" in terms of a statistical population, not that those voting were not scientific (some are even rocket scientists).

That's a bloody disgrace !! mad.gif

40% are up to our level of pay ? huh.gif

What right thinking society could accept such an anomaly where a wench earns the same as a gentleman ? ohmy.gif

Edit: I'll get my coat

Bigoted statement corrected to DIN standard format, thank you Katrina

Isn't it nice to know that it will never happen to you, sweetie-pie?

Expected a few cyber kicks in the nuts for that one and seem to have got away lightly.

Up to now . . . unsure.gif

You forgot the "I'l get me coat" at the end, so we knew it wasn't a real one. *tsk*

I'm not bothered about which spouse/partner earns more (and I believe that in a healthy relationship between two people things like that shouldn't matter, either) - what bothers me much more (but that belongs to a different thread) is the fact that women still don't receive equal pay for equal work. mad.gif

What, being told that you aren't a gentleman is getting away lightly? Sheesh, you sure have high standards for a commoner!

Common as muck me Sara

and you know the old saying don't you . . .

"Where's there's muck there's brass" wink.gif
Katrina
You'd have to be, kicks in the nuts are expensive these days. Apparently.
sarabyrd
I've heard of brass knuckles, but don't you think this is going a bit far?

I aint got no job me so cant afford to vote

Would it bother me? It didn't before, but once burned, twice shy. Women want to be able to "look up to" their men, and that's hard to do when they earn more. You see this most mostly in height relationships: the majority of women's partners are 2-5" taller.

While I wouldn't automatically nix a woman who earns more, It's certainly a consideration these days. Could dating a waitress be overcompensating?

Edit: I just checked the poll results and it looks like around 2:1 male earning same/more ("and I'm fine with that").

woof.

What does height have to do with how much one makes?

Also, in a healthy relationship don't both partners want to be respected and possibly looked up to by the other one? There are many ways to appreciate and "look up to" someone that do not relate to money.
bluedave
Always was told that people are all the same height when lay down, don't see any difference.
arshoo
or a golden one from me mate "dont matter how tall they are when the legs are up", tbh he said that for a woman he was dating who had one leg shorter than the other! tongue.gif

"Where's there's muck there's brass"

"Where's there's bras there's muck" I think is the correct expression.

Having been in a long-term relationship with someone not much taller than me who earned less, I would say that yes, he did have a slight problem with the size of my wage packet. Or maybe it was that I still wore high heels? Who knows? It's in the past, in any case.
If you feel you're being taken advantage of, whether financially or otherwise, alarm bells should sound.
Cash won't necessarily make someone look up to you (as any fule kno).
