Friends, I got a problem while trying to set up my internet. I received the SpeedTouch 585 with 2 CDs and 2 days ago a technician from TCom came to check the line. Everything seems to be ok but:
- I tried to connect directly not using any CD provided. Both connections (wireless and LAN) failed. I got no IP adress
- I tried the ALICE CD and when testing the 4 steps it says "Hardware problem" in the 3rd step
- I tried the Speedtouch CD and all I got is that there is a problem communicating with the ST router
I tried to set up manually the IP address (192.168.1.x and 192.168.1.1 for gateway) but I don't know which address should I enter for DNS... All I got is "Limited or no connectivity".
The ST CD says something about creating a link between the laptop and the router but I cannot connect them. I tried to connect them via the association button but it didn't work. I got green light for DSL and for Internet (meaning that the line is OK) but I got an orange light as WiFi status...
Can you please help me?
Many thanks in advance!

I had problems getting connected and ended up reloading windows which sorted everything out.
Its a pretty extreme option, so see if you can figure somethÃng else out first. Saying that however, I was a bit aprehensive about reloading windows, but it was fairly painless and now my computer runs about 5 times faster then it did before. Its like a spring clean for your computer and gets rid of all the crap that builds up over the years.

Thanks Vanman. Unfortunatelly is my office laptop and I cannot touch the O.S. since it comes with a specific configuration.
I called the support and helped me to get LAN connection but they told me that I should pay 6 EUR if I want to get wireless connection instructions... crazy!
I tried to use the same procedure with the WLAN but I don't find the option for using the wireless adaptor instead the LAN cable. Can anyone help?

Get your wired connection working first. Call Alice tech support if needed. If you get an error during the install, then it's their job to help you. If you don't speak German, ask them very nicely if they speak English (you may need help navigating the voice menu, but trial and error might work).
I'm a little confused why they sent you a DSL modem with built-in Wi-Fi, but don't bother with that for now. Get the internet working first. It may be that they disabled the wireless on the modem (is that even possible?), so don't muddy your problem worrying about that.
If that doesn't work check out the SpeedTouch website and follow their instructions, if any.
If you don't have time for all this, just call the guys above or someone like that who can come out and fix everything in probably well under an hour.

Thank you Freiheit! I got the wired connection working now but still don't know how to set up the wireless connection... With the provided Alice CD I got the well known error message "wrong language" (my XP is in english). I tried to copy the LAN connection icon (I think it works exactly the same way) but I cannot change the setting for using the wireless card instead of the ethernet card.
I got to go to the airport to fetch some friends and, as soon as I'm back, I'll try to fix it.
Alice told me that wireless instructions are given after paying 6 EUR. I don't understand why they charge you for this service...

So did you go to speedtouch website already? If they have forums, it makes a lot more sense to ask your questions there than here. But, there are lots of helpful people here and maybe someone has dealt with this specific question before (did you search already?).
Alice software is likely irrelevant to turning on and configuring your wi-fi. Especially since you aren't paying them for the service.

Of course:
The problem was that I was trying to connect directly (as I always do in my country where I connect directly, selecting the network and introducing the network key. No more steps are needed) With ALICE you need to create a new connection:
control panel --> network connections --> Create a new connection (left hand side) --> A wizard will appear --> Select: Connect to the internet --> Set up manually --> Connect using a broadband connection that requires a user name and password --> Type whatever (e.g. internet) for the ISP name --> Anyone's use --> USer name: You must write your phone number with 089 (for Munich) - Password: The one sent by ALICE --> Finished --> Double click on the new connection and... That's it!
One important thing is: You don't have to care about the icon showing "Limited or no connectivity". You will connect anyway when using the already created connection.
I hope it helps...

Thanks for posting you're solution. We're having problems with this too...I'll give it a bash tonight and hopefully it'll work.

The above steps are Win XP specific. Also, at least with my Alice setup, no password is required for the DSL connection (although putting one in probably won't affect anything).
Finally, these are the same steps detailed in another
much older thread here.
