I had the same problem about finding a decent dentist here. I went to the one around the corner from my office last week and, although i have yet to have any work done, they made a very good imperssion. The guy was really nice and although I am scared shytless of the dentist he didn't tut and look to the heavens like some I have encountered.
They are on Jägerstrasse (Mitte - U-Bahn Französische Strasse).
Dr. Jan Effinghausen - ZahrnärzteDon't know if they speak english though, sorry...

The dentists which speak english, And are nice. (Mabye these are linked??) Whoo-hoo!
Raising the ante: What about dentists which don't poo-poo resin fillings (color-matched fillings, may not last -quite- as long as mercury-almagum) and don't run a gag-order policy, are open about the toxicity of mercury-doped fillings?
I had mine (mercury) replaced with resin fillings by a cool family dentist in arizona some years back, and she didn't charge these rediculous prices some 'alternative' dentists are charging (10,000$!). Just the normal filling removal and replacement amount. 10 months later I noticed one day I was more clear-headed than ever. Can't say it hurt, anyway, and my food doesn't taste funny anymore.

I went to the dentist yesterday, here in Berlin, and it was very pleasant. His English was fantastic, he was gentle and fast (had a cavity filled,) and he uses composites to fill the tooth (the resin, color-matched fillings.) His equipment was also very modern and sleek-looking, not that that matters too much, but his practice appears to be well-established. His info:

Does it cost anything to have some work done on your teeth? Or is it free if you have health insurance?

I need a dentist too but for a nightguard.
Does anyone know of a dentist that makes the NTI device thats prevent grinding? Or who fits mouth guards in general. Need to get one made...hopefully sooner rather than later.
ll
All Dentists can make night guards, try the list I posted above, and call one of them, I know they do as they work similar to my office here in Munich, and most of our patients have night guards.

depends on your insurance. If you are Kasse, they cover an exam and basics, but major stuff like crowns and that are generally only a percentage covered. If you are private, they cover alot more.

I just rang
MEDECO
Zahnklinik
Potsdamer Platz

I am insured with barmer and MEDECO want €100 for cleaning and €400 for bleaching. Is this the average or can I get cheaper is there a dental school...here.

that is about average for treatments in germany, 100 for a cleaning is cheap, here in Munich you can pay from 150-300 and that is for non licensed people doing it.

i recommend ku64 (address is 64 ku'damm, funnily enough..)
i went for a full hygiene treatment recently, was professional and thorough. i was delighted with the results, there is a lovely australian female dentist - and the 90 minute procedure only cost 90 euros (with health insurance, 148 without).
in london the same procedure would have cost two or three times as much.
hope this helps!

I need to rave and cheer my dentist. Have no idea if she speaks English, but I am really scared of dentists (due to a stupid dentist i went to in germany, grrrrrrr) She was really fast, did my filling, looked around and did normal dentist things in 1/2 an hour. Great bedside (does that makes sense if you're in a chair?) manner, and I will never ever go anywhere else!

My dentist, Arnold Jansen, Rosenthaler Str. 37, 030 2859-8285, a German who grew up in Brazil, speaks perfect English and is very well-equipped. He's right next to the Hackesche Höfe. Really nice guy and a competent dentist.

www.ku64.de My husband was just seen there. Depending on your insurance though the cleaning will be 90 euro and they type of filling they use (composit, which means its natural color) isn't covered by most insurance. However, the staff is friendly and they have english speaking staff.

There isn't much discussion here of CHEAP dentists -- 90 or 100+ euros doesn't qualify for cheap. My travel insurance doesn't cover dentistry, so I'm in the market for a cheap cleaning. Any places I can get this just with a dental hygienist so it's cheaper? I probably am OK going without an exam for now. Any suggestions in the central areas of Berlin? Thanks!

I am looking for a North American educated dentist. Have been here for quite some time and won't go see a German dentist. My neighbor is a dentist and has terrible teeth and so many people I see have very bad teeth, so a German dentist is out of the question for me. Don't want to always wait until I am back for vacations to have work done either.
If anyone knows an American or Canadian dentist practicing in Berlin please let me know.
Thanks

I would like to recommend:
Harry Smith (Scottish Dentist but been here a long time)
Turnstraße 34
10551 Berlin Tiergarten
Tel 030 3967075
I have been using him for a few years now and find him very good and obviously the lingo thing helps. I also see the Hygienist there, Doris. I always speak German with her but Harry is normally always around if you get stuck with anything.

I am also unsure about insurance, and what is covered (or not) dental-wise...
I have basic "language-student" insurance. I wonder if there is anybody who has experience with that sort of insurance, or if they know of a dental practice that takes it, OR if they know a dental practice that speaks enough english on the phone to deal with my pattering deutsch/english while I try to explain that I need a filling but need to know first if they will accept my insurance??
thanks in advance for advice!

Before flying out from Canada a month ago, I just had a root Canal and two fillings for around $1200 CDN..gutted, now I think either I had shabby work done or my grill is in a bad state as I have awful tooth ache in the same area and think I may require another filling? How expensive is a filling in Berlin and as an EU Citizen, is there anything i can do on the cheap? Thank you, any help would really help and of course, further recommendations to a good practice..

Ok, I have read and am continuing to read countless threads seeking a flat out answer regarding the cheapest possible approach to what I fear may be dawning on emergency dental surgery. I am a British citizen who recently had three cavities repaired and a root canal fixed a week before relocating to Germany (The surgery was conducted and paid for privately to the fee of $1400 CDN in Toronto). I was told at the time, that potentially, I may require a second root canal (I simply did not have another $700 at the time nor could I afford the $600 for a crown on the tooth where the root canal occurred).
I am now in Berlin, I have my E111 or European heath care card, and this is the only insurance I naively have. I am a great deal of discomfort and am quite simply at a loss of what to do. Would returning to England be an option, I have not been a resident of the Uk for some time and fear that as a non NI contributor, I have closed this door of behind me. I am uncertain as to the prices I am looking at but inevitably anxious to curb this crippling pain in my mouth. Any advice or suggestions would be dearly appreciated.

did you manage to find a good result? i'm in the same boat. i've just come over to berlin from london and in the last couple of days have been in quite a bit of pain. im wondering whether its worth the cost of flying back and getting the treatment done in the uk, bearing in mind its going to cost at least £400 - £600 (i think its a case of removing wisdom teeth, im hoping its just that, if not i might have to sell my soul...)
did you manage to find a solution? i had a look at all the links on the forum already, but it's a little bewildering if you don't know the system etc etc
i'd be grateful for all feedback. i also just have a E111 card or equivalent, so no real insurance to speak of....

I actually made the two hour commute from Berlin to Poznan Poland and saved a bundle even when incorporating the train fare. It was an all day mission but I was there and back within the day and relieved to finally bid adieu to the horrible pain. I would highly recommend the following surgery.
http://www.medicalprestige.com/page.php/1/...-dentistry.htmlVery modern and very professional and Poznan is a really beautiful city to stretch your legs in.
Hope this helps and I’m only suggesting it to those with financial concerns and not trying to deter away from dental surgery in Germany as I understand it’s pretty excellent.

Neither dentist speaks or understands English apparently, as the bitch on the other end, who does understand English, hangs up the phone on you when asked for any English-speaking dentist recommendations (she understand the question, but doesn't care to even say 'Goodbye'). 'Welcome to Berlin, now F&§K Off!' Gotta love these people, not.

Hi everyone. As I have worked in the dental field around the world and having seen dentists from excellent to awful I can recommend the following chap in

PD Dr. Stefan Hägewald. Schloßstraße 48a 12165 Berlin. Tel: 030-83409585
Unfortunately I have no clue if the assistant speaks proper English, if not ask for " Einen Termin bei Dr. Hägewald bitte "
