Does anyone know of any good bars, cafes, and restaurants in (central) Düsseldorf that are non smoking? I have a friend who is tired of sitting in clouds of smoke...

There might be useful information on some of the websites listed here: Non-smoking organizations in Germany.
Good luck!

There is a cafe on Nordstr. Entrance is in the back yard next to Hussel chocolate. Sells antiques too. That is non-smoking. Mainly open during the day.

Other than that, I really haven't ever come across anywhere!

Ugly American coffee shop in Pemplefort is advertised as non-smoking (we walked by and all of the employees were smoking outside, so that was a good sign!). Mostly just coffee drinks and such, though. We are starting to see more places that at least have non-smoking sections, like Schiff Ahoi! in Oberkassel.

Thanks for that - do you know what its called and which street it is on? Does it close at 6pm or stay open late?

I'm really surprised at the lack of smoke-free places in Dus compared to back in Belfast.

Ugly American is on Bagelstrasse in Pemplefort. There is a giant, crazy looking church just down that street a few blocks from it.

Also Red Lounge (excellent chinese) - opposite Steve's International Store Kürfurstenstr. (by the Hotel Asahi) has a separate restaurant for non-smokers.

Thanks. I went there on Wednesday night - its quite small and it was very quiet but not a bad place.

Now to find somewhere more central that is not too smokey...
