Its been a month since me n my wife had applied for a long term visa, but I ain't getting any news from the Consulate in Mumbai. I try to call them, but all damned phone lines are always busy. If I visit them, they do not encourage me much.

How long does it take for these visas?

My wife's visa is a dependent one? What are the possibilities that both will be issued simultaneously so that we travel together?

Also came across someone at munichmela who had applied for a year, but got it only for a short duration - 3 months. How do they decide about all this? Any idea?

Thanks in advance for your answers.
Hazza
It's all very arbitrary as to how long you can stay here.

You need to give a little more information on what kind of visa you are applying for and on what basis.

Have you been offered work in Germany? Or are you coming in the hope of getting employment?

One thing I can tell you though is that you won't get a long-term visa first up anyway. You will likely get 6 months - maybe a year tops. If you are still in employment after this time, then renewal is no problem and each renewal will allow you a longer stay each time

Thanks for the info.

I am not sure about the "types" of visa. All I know (and have applied for) is a long term (1 year) residence visa.

I had been on a Schengen visa earlier on a business visit, however, this time, I have been invited for work by our client company in Bonn.

The duration mentioned in the application form is one year. The work is expected for an year. Our client company is also looking forward to extend it after an year, if things go well.

As you said, I will get a visa only for 6 months. So, how much in advance do I have to apply for an extension? How long does the extension take?
oxymoron
I had applied for the work visa in delhi.
It generally takes 4-6 weeks for the processing...so dont worry

Initially you will get it for 3 months and then it will be extended after you come here and register in the rathaus.
I have no idea about dependent visa but I guess your wife should also get the visa with you.
Bandu
Thanks @OM. I will keep everybody informed about my visa progress on this post.

Six weeks from the date of application, here comes the detective to my house. Speaks to my neighbours and writes down declarations from everyone present that they know us and we have been married. The reason being that the German Consulate in Mumbai does not recognize the Indian Marriage Certificate any more (due to recent fraud cases). They appoint a private detective to verify the marriage. Well, its also all my mistake. Had I snapped some 50 or 60 ceremonial photographs of the wedding, I would not have been into this trouble. But investing in this kind of verification is always better than the crowded ceremony, isn't it? wink.gif

The next step would be to talk to the consulate once the detective submits his report (that will be on Thursday). In the mean time, I will ask my manager in Germany to talk to the officials there to know about the progress.

wow, thats a bit much!! detective!!

marriage certificate verification, first I ever heard of it, if it is bloody registered in court what else do you need??? and what if even you are not married, you can claim she is your partner and she can still accompany you here as a dependent as long as you can prove sufficient funds!

Visa usually 4-6 weeks as mentioned, usually the workers council approval here in Germany takes a bit and is dependent on your company's explanation, as is the duration.

once here you can get extension within 15 days usually.

You will as also mentioned get a normal 3 months visa which once stamped at the rathaus will be valid for the year or whatever is decided.

You are from Goa, India. I thought you must be knowing about all this sh*t happening across all consulates in India. Do a search in munich mela and you'll see that I am atleast lucky to have got this thing done. There are people who, after 3 months, are still waiting for the detective to arrive. And all this at an added expense of INR 8880 (in Mumbai) and INR 15000 (in Delhi). sad.gif

I am single smile.gif

But seriously, you can bring along a "partner" if you can prove sufficient funds, who the hell cares if you guys are married or not? If you satisfy the criteria for partners then dont worry about the photos!

I don't think that the local consulate will allow that. May be allowed for other immigrants - those from UK or US, but I am not sure about it. Nothing as such is mentioned in the consulate generals website as well.

your guess is right,my girlfriend applied for visiting visa in chennai and they
denied it ,the reason is she might not come back to India, luckily she got her
dependent visa in 7 weeks.I know few guys waiting for more than 6 months
for their spouses to join.Goodluck!

Thats preety confusing. First she was denied, then you say luckily she got it. Can you elaborate?

They are very strict for Indian people for issuing visa. They found several cases of Fake marriages from Delhi.

Keep patience and you will get visa after verification.

As i said initially it is visiting visa which was denied,as we got married she applied for dependent visa
which was issued in a span of 7 weeks.I think in your case both of u will be issued visa at once but u
never know.
Bandu
Thanks for the info. I am pretty sure that we both will be granted the visa at the same time and we will travel together. Thats what the head consular @ Mumbai assured us.

I wonder if the Germans stamp the passport with a "Rejected" ph34r.gif mark as is done by the US Consulates mad.gif
Bandu
Bingo!!!

My Project Manager from Germany just informed me that the Foreigners Authority in Bonn has granted our visas. No more details available yet. All he said that I can visit the local consulate and get our passports stamped.

So, I'll be going to the Mumbai consulate tomorrow to check on that. Will keep you all informed.

Finally, my visa has been issued. My wife's not. It may take a couple of days more.

Here's what's written on mine:

Gültig zur softwareimplementierung (which means, Valid to the software implementation)

Bei <My-Organization-Name>

Sonstige erwerbstätigkeit nicht gestattet (which means, Does not permit other gainful employment)

So, I am still not happy, since I have to wait for my wife's visa to be done.

Its only for 3 months. The consular said, its always for 3 months, you have to go to the Ausländeramt to get it extended.

I am really looking forward to travel ASAP (may be on 10-Dec).

So, guys, please suggest me what are the things I have to take care of. What to do next (like to visit some office somewhere and register myself, get a Foreigners Card, etc.)

Thanks in advance.

Happy now. wink.gif Both visas are now in place, tickets booked and am travelling on Wednesday early morning.

However, I have a concern. We are travelling on one-way tickets and our visums are for 90 days only. Will that be a concern? Any recent experiences, especially from the Indian or non-EU travellers?

Thanks in Advance,
Bandu.

By that I meant will that be a problem during immigration?
Bandu
So, finally visited the Ausländeramt today and got some stickers on our passports.
The dates are one year from now and they told us to come back in case we want them extended.
Moreover, we are not eligible for
Integration Course as one years residence permit is too short for this. We need a permanent residence permit for this course. It is currently only for those who intend to reside here permanently.

The residence permit for me says the same thing as was printed on my visa, but for my wife, it says:

QUOTE
Erwerbstätigkeit nicht gestattet. Die Ausübung einer Beschäftigung kann nur Antrag durch die Ausländerbehörde erlaubt werden

All this process just required our passports and 50 EUR each. No more photographs, or any contract (work / house), neither did they ask for health insurance, etc.

I had so much more to ask - like the Electronic residency card for foreigners, etc. etc. but I could not - guess why??? The lady and the guy there had limited English knowledge ohmy.gif

We greeted them "Danke Schön" and came back happy with our new residence permits. But, I guess I better pay them a visit again tomorrow with some friend who knows German so as to get everything else sorted out.

However few week back some of my friends who are going for a similar purpose to germany got their visas without any work permit.
I have to leave from India on 23 of May. Is this time enough for me to get a work permit. my period of stay is just 65 day. I am really worried about this. i hav done all the insurances and bought the air tickets too.
Do let e know please about this ZAV form and time required for getting a work permit.

You get the work permit when you arrive. When you get to Frankfurt
take all your paperwork to the KVR. Even if they don't give you the permit
for the full time, they can issue you a temp one to allow you to start your job.
shashvat
But they are not giving me the visa without a work permit.
however it is not an employment , it is actually a university research internship in which the professor is supporting our living expenses.
it was mentioned in the offer letter that we will be paid euro 500 for this ... is this the reason??
x_sridhar
If you havent talked to the professor already, better to ask him how you should proceed.

Alternatively go to this link where it says you need a ' internship visa' . I am pasting the relevant paragraph..Hope it helps and all the best.

That seems strange. Are you sure the consulate isn't just looking for some sort of documentation from the university?

Do let e know please about this ZAV form and time required for getting a work permit

Now it makes more sense. The ZAV has a program for international students that let them work over a summer in Germany without a work permit. Basically, paper you get from them is a form that exempts you from Aufenthaltserlaubnis/Work Permit. It needs to be obtained by the organization who is employing you.

Here's the ZAV info:

Hello,

I got a new job in Germany. The company is new to recruiting someone from outside EU. I know the process for this after going through all the helpful threads here.

Do you think I should ask the company to take the service of a relocation company in Germany to apply for workpermit? Or is it something one can manage alone staying in home country?

For the work permit, they will need to provide the offer given to you, which usually should have the actual salary offered. Putting a different amount for obtaining the work permit is not a good practice (may be illegal).
