Have searched the threads looking for Magners cider.

Can you buy it anywhere in Munich? Do the Irish bars sell it for carryouts? How much?

Any help would be most appreciated, got girly night in soon and thought it would just be the thing to liven them up!
Small Town Boy
Ah, I got excited for a moment because I thought someone was looking for an alcoholic drink made from fermented apples, but it turns out you're just after some sugar water. Carry on. rolleyes.gif

More easy to find would be the cider from the Frankfurt region (Apfelwein); although a regional speciality, it can be found here. And it actually has some apples in it!
g24
Thanks STB but at band Camp last weekend I did indeed quench my thirst with some Apfelwein but Ew-uew, it was like 'off' apfelshorle I'm afraid, thats why I need the M stuff. Mind you, the Apfel Wein did have the desired effect albeit after about 2.5 litres of the stuff! Tee Hee, good night!!
Crawlie
The Arc sells it as far as I know, as does GM's
g24
Is this for carry out? Any idea how much?
Small Town Boy
If it gets too expensive, just buy some Helles and add some sugar. Seriously.
Scogs
you can buy magners at Walmart...whats the problem?
neurodancer
you come to munich and want to drink cider, for god sake get a life, if you really desire magners book a flight back with ryanair.
eurobabs
There are a lot of people who can't drink beer and cider is the best substitute. I am allergic to beer (the malt has gluten) and love cider. Magners is also my favorite.

Next time I am out near Walmart, I will stop by (prob this upcoming Tue) and see if they have it and how much it is and post back for you G24.

Like eurobabs said, some people cannot drink beer, so cider is a good choice. I guess you don't drink any CocaCola products since they are American, guess you only drink AfriCola?
neurodancer
Thats right i don't drink CokeCola because its shit just like the beer.
g24
neurodancer - As I said the cider was for a girly night in. i also drink beer I never said it wasn't any good. What's wrong with having a notion for cider? Cider and girls in = good night without the beer bloatiness to go with it!! Stop getting so defensive over the beer guys!!

Not sure if this deserves a new thread (or thread rename) but it looks like Magners is about to become very easy to get in Munich!!

C+C Beverages in ireland are investing 1.5 million euro in an advertising campaign to accompany the roll out of Magners across Munich from April.
Alongside Barcelona, Munich is the second continental european city targeted as a testing bed for Magners Cider.

A local Radio advertising campaign is due to start any day now and already Taxis and Billboards with Magners advertising are visible around town.

Strangely there seems to be no web presence to tell us what Pubs and Cafes are signed up but maybe that is also in the offing.
Maybe even off licences will start stocking it across the city?
Pachmayr Getränke drink wholsalers stock Magners since years ago so there will be no problems with distribution if off licences.

It looks like it'll be an interesting summer on the cider front in Munich!!

Holy mother ...
There are actually no fewer than 205 taxis with Magners advertising wandering about munch at the moment

Yes thats no misprint, TWO HUNDRED AND FIVE feckin taxis advertising an irish cider in Munich.
Thats all according to the taxi advertising crowd at http://www.taxi-ad.de/presse.cfm?NavID=66&...amp;PresseID=28

Each taxi has adverts on the doors and a sign on the roof.
The Arc
A salesman called in to The Arc earlier this week trying to get me to stock Magners.

We already sell it biggrin.gif
garibaldi
Aha!
You haven't seen what we're doing with Bulmer's, have you?

More info later!

HEM
Woodpecker is also Bulmers (for their sins).

One shudders to think how our future interlectuals are being lead astray.

Going back to the initial question, where can one purchase Magners ? Would appreciate feedback. Thanks.

Nope. Not quite

Rep. if Ireland Bulmers = (relabeled as) Magners abroad
Bulmers as found in Munich is a totally different beastie and is made in England by Bulmers (a Scotish and Newcastle company)

Magners on the other hand is made by "Bulmers" Clonmel in Ireland and is owned by C+C .

English bulmers is being pushed as a pint bottle drink poured on ice in a pint glass as a response to the success of Magners in England over the past few years.

Pachmayr Getränke Retail shop at Theresienstraße 33 is your best bet. Their full wholesale range of drinks is available there, abeit some of it requires a phonecall order to get it in specially for you.
I remember seeing a Magners bottle in their window so it is probably in their regular stock.

Good man exquitius!

the darkness of Toytown tipplers.
Maybe we should all go back to Cidona! wink.gif

Thanks Excuitius, will try them on tuesday.

Let us know if it was a successful trip to the Pachmayr shop. Will have to take a visit myself there if it's true!!

According to this article, it should soon be easily available here!

And I always thought that Zider traditionally came from Zummerzet.

Interesting article about the rebirth of cider in today's Guardian.

QUOTE
That cider should ever come to be associated with the word "quality" is perhaps the most baffling element in the revival of a drink once known affectionately as "tramp juice", yet it is just one in a number of previously socially unacceptable beverages to be rehabilitated - cider's renaissance has, for example, arrived hand-in-hand with the recent rosé revival, while sherry, once the taste of suburban Sunday afternoons, has been recast as a sophisticated drink. Next up, apparently, is perry, or pear cider. Withrington cites Brothers, sold at a number of music festivals last summer, and a Swedish pear cider called Kopparberg: "There's an unbelievable amount of noise about it, no marketing as yet, but it's staggering - it's already listed by eight pub companies as a drink they plan to stock." Great things are anticipated for pear cider "because pear is a bit sweeter than apple, and people expect it will be easier to drink for women. That's the goal for everyone, to find a drink for women." Does this mean, perhaps, a revival for Babycham?

Now that would be a thing.
Although this woman has no trouble finding a drink. Sadly.
crusoe
sweet = easier to drink for women, eh?

We had some terrific ultra-dry white cider in Norn Iron a few years ago, in nice solid flip-top bottles (Bügelverschluss), a good substitute for Sekt given the wine prices over there - can't remember the brand but a couple of years later the brand had disappeared and White Lightning was everywhere. Being a bit naive (and thirsty) I thought I'd try WL, after all white cider is white cider, innit. However, White Lightning gives you a very persistent headache just above the eyes, like someone attacking you with a road drill. Just THERE, no, left a bit, yes, that's it. Sadder and wiser now. Trampagne, indeed.
Katrina
WL? Ah the road drill is part of the experience, not even using WL in combination with Castaway wine cooler will save you from the road drill. I read that on the interweb so it must be true.
Babycham returning is bad. Especially mixed with cognac. Or so my mum said as she was drinking several.

Norn Iron? hahhahahhahhahahhaha haven't read that in years hahahhahhahhaha

What was that perry ad back in the 1980s with "Je suis un rockstar" but with the lyrics changed? Something about "Went to a nightclub, near Leicester Sq... sounds a bit French and it's made with pears"?

In any case: BBC on zidah

I got Magners in Pachmeyer! was 2,50 euro a bottle!! There were only 3 bottles on the shelf though and it took much pleading to get a case from 'through the back' best to phone them first and pre-order if you want any real quantity!! I love it biggrin.gif
g24
Tonight is a Magners night!!!
The Arc
Magners is also available at The Arc

gideon
but in which getränkemarkts is it available?
Grinner
Come on Gids..
Heaven forbid that someone would post in the right category!

Well I just thought they may have structed their distribution system to match the local market buying paterns... Nothing worse than a company that advertises a product that you cant get through the customery channels.

Mrs G would die for a crate of this stuff at home chicks love cider, and in the boonies a good prcentage of folks dont go out to drink. She's already asked in Gräfelfing. Most disappointing.
Katrina
The Atomic Cafe now sells it - poor Mrs Peel's liver. sad.gif

I emailed the contact on the magners website. I guess I misunderstood the ads. I thought it would be avaialble to buy in shops, but the lady who emailed me back said it is not in shops in Germany, just more restaurants, cafes, bars etc...

Happily, one of them is just around the corner from me and is a euro cheaper than in the city biggrin.gif

She emailed me an excel sheet of all the places in Munich you can get Magners. If anyone is interested in a copy, PM me and I will forward it to you (there are 164 locations in Munich).
