Hi,

I recently moved into Bornheim. Can anyone point me in the direction of any reasonable gyms nearby? I have been told that there is one close to me which will cost me about €29 per month, but I know no more than that.

Try this: www.fitnessfirst.com

You can even use them in the UK with your membership.

There is a cheaper way of course, and that's the fitness centre in the Main University at Bockenheim. biggrin.gif

I go to McFit which only costs €15.90 a month. Very cheap but there are no courses.

if you are after a flashy "disco gym", with all sorts of aerobic courses / loud music / MTV / sauna, then I wouldn't know.

For a completely different atmosphere you could try your local Kieser Training. They have nothing except machines to work-out on .. and none of the above "distractions". Also has the positive side-effect of no "would-be Arnies" posing around the place.

The concept is the same for all their centres, which is a little different perhaps to what you may be used to. No reps, maximum 2 minutes per machine, only 10 machines in the training session.

Having said that they are TÜV certified for "rückengymnastik".

Costs €400 a year (or €640 for 2 years), for which you can go to any of their other centres. I have looked on their website (http://www.kieser-training.de) and there are 3 in Frankfurt.

If you want to give it a go (or indeed anyone else), then let me know by PM - I get a months free membership for any referrals !!! biggrin.gif

Cheers all. Well, a 'disco-gym' is certainly not what i'm after. I just need somewhere that's got a good range of cardio-machines (treadmills, rowers, bikes etc...) - i'm not interested in classes or programmes at all so i just want somewhere pretty simple, local, and not too expensive. McFit sounds pretty near the mark, i've heard only bad reviews about fitness first and they don't seem to be the cheapest. Where is this McFit place? i'm on bornheimer landstrasse.
Bombi
The McFit in Frankfurt is Mainzer Landstraße 663, Tel: 069-35350999

I go to the one in Hagen.

am currently a member of the Fitness Company and can use all the normal gyms in Frankfurt apart from the plush Wave one at the Hilton. Very good gyms and the one on the Zeil is pretty cool, small pool and also free DVD hire everytime you go. smile.gif

However i'm paying a fair bit and have heard rumours of certain gyms around for very good value for money (i.e. under 40 EUR a month, in some cases I have heard there are some very cheap but decent gyms).

Anyone recommend anywhere decent?

Nordend or Bornheim location would be even better as have just moved there.

Hiya,

Ive just joined a gym thats just opened on Konstablewache. I pay just under 20 euros a month for brand new facilities. They dont have a pool or classes or sauna but if you want a damn good gym thats fully equiped and is open from 6:00-23:00, then check it out. Its called Pure Training. Plus you get a great view of Frankfurt!

Well I go to the TG Bornheim

I have the basic 9€ a month membership which covers all my aerobics classes.

However since the winter is coming and I am no longer going to be able to run in the evenings I was also thinking of joining a fitness studio. You see LB, since No10 has left I'll have nobody to run with in the dark in the Ostpark would you fancy taking his place as not keen on going on my own in the dark tongue.gif

The TG has a Fitness Studio it is 30€ a month but opening times are not so flexible - ie not open in the mornings. But find if you only want to go after work.

I used to go to Happy Fitness on Musikantenweg but that was also not too cheap.

I checked the McFit in Frankfurt out a few weeks ago. A bargain at only 15€ a month ok not a luxury gym like the wave but it did the job. Shame it is just so far away from Bornheim sad.gif What I also liked about McFit was that I could used the Darmstadt one too.

I want to check out this Day and night place too. Also pretty cheap. It is not too far from where I live but then the advantage is I have a car it might be a pain on the U Bahn biggrin.gif

Pure Training

I might take a look at these too.

But Zeil is awkward for me unless I bike it!

ah, i just joined the fitness company. their prices were along the lines of other clubs i looked at in the area & since you can train anywhere in germany...

i know someone who goes to McFit in Munich. for €15 he has developed pretty nice muscles, but no aerobics classes. it costs per shower, etc.

There's a similar place out here in Wiesbaden called All Inklusive Fitness Studio. Only 15 € a month, clean, chav free and unlike pretty much everything else in Germany it actually opens on Sundays. I guess even God botherers need to keep fit eh laugh.gif That also includes classes and, get this, isotonic drinks free from a soda-stream type machine at reception! I paid 23 quid for my gym in Coventry and the equipment in there was prehistoric.

Did they charge any additional fees like initiation fees? Also, do they insist on a contract?
Gav76
I spoke to them yesterday on the way home. €59 joining fee, €19 for the key thing with your training plan stored on it then €5 a week. They only do year contracts though but the guy said if you leave Frankfurt just show them the abmeldungschein and you can cancel. They also open from 06:00 til 00:00 according to their website! ohmy.gif

I think it was the boss I was speaking to (he was the only one not in a pure training tracksuit) and he offered to forget the €19, made the offer about leaving Frankfurt you can cancel, gave me a tour of the gym and explained how everything worked, then gave me a 1 week free training voucher to come and try it before deciding. I was pretty impressed and wil try the free week then probably join.

Any other members want to take me along to train together?

Hi Gav,

I was wondering how you got on with that gym that you joined ?. I am also looking to join a gym but unsure which one to check out. I had a brief look at the fitness company but don't know if its worth the cash 65euros a month sad.gif

Cheers,

There´s a good gym in Bad Homburg (outside of Frankfurt), the Health-and-Fitness. I pay 35 € p. month (without the power-drink -> 0,50 € till 1,50 € a bottle), but it´s a 6 month contract.

Current, there´s no web page of that gym, but when you´re interested, send me a PM... smile.gif

Hi,

The gym is great. All the equipment is brand new, the staff are all helpful and I'm starting to see a difference already smile.gif

When I was looking at gyms I went and spoke to the receptionist at Pure Training and she gave me a voucher for a weeks training to try the place, just pop in and they should be able to sort you out as well. Or I'll be back in Frankfurt this week and could ask them about it if you like?

Hi!

I will be relocating to Franfurt in a few months and am trying to already sort out some general arrangements. So I am trying to find a nice gym to join. The Wave at the Hilton was recommemded to me by a future co-worker but I would also like some second opinions. So does anyone know a nice gym in the center that would also have a pool? Thanks!

There is also the Happy Fitness I used to go there and it is ok. The new one has a pool too and the prices do not seem too over the top.

Hi guys smile.gif

New to this place. Wish I had discovered it when I lived in Frankfurt before. Anyhow, moving there again this summer and am starting to do all the prep work (fun!) have been trying to find a good gym but they all seem a bit crap from what I can see... used to go to the Fitness Company but that almost ended in a legal battle after they continued taking money from my account after I'd left and completely ignored my termination letter for months. Not going there again. Have you discovered anything good in your search yet? Something with pool and sauna/steam room (I generally pretend to do fitness and prance around in the spa bit instead)...can't seem to find anything easy to get to. Ideal would be something similar to Holmes Place but I guess the only thing close to that is the Fitcom. Darn.

Any ideas?

Hi all!

Thanks for your replys about the fitness studios. Another interest of mine is ballet and I was just wondering if anyone would know a nice ballet studio / group in Frankfurt. I don't mind if it is in German but would only want dance for fun (so only once or twice a week). I have danced classical ballet for about 10 years as a teen and would really like to start again when I move to Frankfurt.

Thanks!

Hi,

you could also try the Unio in Sachsenhausen.

It's a bit more "sophisticated" as there is i.e. a medical checkup at the beginning and the machines are very good in my opinion. But: it costs 60 Euros for students, so the normal tariff is probably around 70 Euros. The changing rooms and showers are very clean and they have a very nice cardio theatre. And the staff is very good, lots of medicine students. Its just around the corner of Schweizer Platz, easy to reach by U-Bahn.

http://unio.de/html/framesetrundgang.htm

As I have just recently finished my studies I now go to pure training at konstablerwache. wink.gif A bit cheaper... Very good for people who need no sauna. But note that the charge is 50 Cents per shower, which is not included in the 5 Euros per week.

sorry

I signed up for Wave at the Hilton yesterday. Seems nice, albeit loud (wood floors). Oddly, the location around the corner seems a little nicer and it cheaper, but thought I would keep my options open. Will let you know how it is...

This is currently where I am working out:

I'm moving to Bockenheim soon and all of the afforementioned gyms in this thread seem a bit far away (and if they are far away that means I probably wouldn't go) Does anyone know of/can recommend any gyms in Bockenheim (area)?

I know there is one at the Uni, but as far as I understand you either have to be a student, an Alumni or a friend of the Sports Society in order to join...

Any info. would be much appreciated!

Cheers
Eugene_ac
Hi,

you could try the Sportfabrik on Ginnheimer Landstraße not far away from the Uni. I used to go there until I moved away from Bockenheim.
http://www.ftg-sportfabrik.de/sportfabrik/sportfabrik.php
Prices are reasonable and they do also offer lots of other sports and also courses like spinning etc. (Downside: not many chickas) Just go to the info counter and the students working there will show you everything.
Parasio
Are there any English speaking trainers at any of the gyms in Frankfurt?
nashira78
@ anyone interested in a gym located in or around Bockenheim try this: http://www.triton-training.de/englisch.html
It's just on Bockenheimer Landstrasse no 94-96, near the university. The U-Bahn Station Westend is right infront of it and there's even a bus going there, #50.

I'm currently going there for a three month membership and so far I am satisfied with the service. I'm a total fitness newbie and like the way they take care of you there.
