Topsy
yeah, there are only 4 fridays' worth of pots of evil...
Darkknight
OK, Advent starts 4 weeks before the 25th. So this Year it starts on Nov. 27, with the 1st Weekend being Dec. 2-3. Surly POE is also open on weekdays too...

So who's up for some POE at the end of the Month?
Small Town Boy
You can make your own whenever you want; just Google a recipe. I believe it's a winter drink rather than being restricted only to Advent. One of the student fraternities here is offering it this week.
Jeeves
Not quite but close enough for rock'n'roll.
Advent starts 4 Sundays before 25th, so that makes it 3rd.
However POE and the whole Christmas market opens on the Friday, some places are already open on the Thursday. At least that's what happened last year.
Topsy
if you want to drink POE on any night other than a friday then you have a stronger constitution than i do - i usually need the whole weekend to recover
Jeeves
STB I believe that DK is enquiring about a particular hot drinks stand rather than the institution of FZB in general.
Topsy
yep - jeeves is right, as ever smile.gif
here it is in the wiki-doodah
Poots of Evil
POE starts when the Christmas Markets open in central Munich aka - Friday 1st December

Thats the first day when the stand is officially open - although I do hear rumours that the stand could be moving!
Katrina
As soon as they start building it, there will be a photo from me (same procedure as every year).

Pots of Evil Assault Unit will be in near-usual formation, sadly without Comrade Showem this year (who will lead the choir now?), gideon and marka your attendance is required.
All welcome but, as always, at your own risk.
DDBug
Oh - I heard so much about this last year, I may have to reschedule my Fridays - at least one of them... Just to see if it's all true.
Renia
I would love to know more about this event as it gets closer, definitely sounds like my cup of... tea evil. Sounds like a worthy way to spend my Friday nights smile.gif
Keydeck
Renia, all you need to know...Arrive at predetermined time/location, meet like-minded souls, drink steaming mugs of punsch/glühwein type beverage, don't notice onset of pleasant drunken stupor, go home, repeat as necessary.
Katrina
You missed out the following:
Hug stuffed goat, sing loudly along to the Chipmunks' Christmas CD, make Stammtisch sign out of paper napkin, buy chips, drop chips, possibly wake up under hedge in Schwabing?
Something like that.

Shaggy should also turn up - he's very good at emergency Bratwurst mercy dashes.
Renia
Are these nice chips? Belgian type chips?
gideon
*shudders*

cant make the first friday but will at some point get there this year!
Poots of Evil
Please Take Note:

Although PoE is a good excuse for a Friday night pissup, they are in no way related to Ians or Darkknights Friday night drinks.

Any passing resemblence to either of these friday night events is purely co-incidental and not intentional. Your home is at risk if you do not keep up loans or mortgages secured upon it. Please make sure you consult your doctor or pharmacist before taking part in PoE.
Elfenstar
noooooooooooooo! i'm gonna miss this. maybe i can find something half as good as POE here in Baden-Württemberg. maybe?
Eleanor Rigby
Counting down the days to the number one reason living in Munich kicks ass!

Does it matter? They are chips on the floor.
Actually, if anyone is in Frankfurt am Main, the Belgian chip place on Römer is rather wonderful, 30 different sauces for great chips.
Belgian chips (yes, the potatoes are apparently from Belgium) can be found at Tollwood but their FZB isn't that good.
But to paraphrase Arnie, you ain't got time for chips.

Pots of Evil - it's why ibuprofen was invented.
Panama
I've never done this in the two previous years and for this one I won't even be here. Well, one more excuse to stay around for longer!! smile.gif
Renia
I hope I don't get so desperate that I will be eating chips off the floor... or are we talking about wood chips?
(On that note, isn't there a Belgian chip place like the one Katrina mentioned in Amalienstr? Anyone tried it?)
Keydeck
That's the Pommes Boutique. Walked past a couple of times but haven't tried it yet.
Renia
Yum... I had something like Belgian Fries at the vegetarian stand out at Optimalwerke recently, but a whole shop devoted to it...

Resistance is futile.

Come to me.

You know you must.
UrbanAngel
Yes I've eaten at that Belgian chip place on Amalienstrasse. They have a long row of different sauces to choose from, make chips, sausages and other fried delights. Not bad. I *think* it's all organic food too, or at least a large part is.
Jeeves
It was stupid enough planning my holiday to miss the first three Ashes Tests.
But missing the first three Pots of Evil is simply inexcusable.
Already making plans to spend most of the last Friday there.
MonksTown
Katrina, you missed "freak out becasue the deer's head on the wall is staring at you" biggrin.gif

Ha! I resisted last year! ohmy.gif

(looking forward to it this year though, gotta see that deer head).

"Open here I flung the shutter, when, with many a flirt and flutter, in there stepped a stately pot of the saintly days of yore" - Edgar Allen PoE.

Yes, look who's back, back again - Friday December 1st marks the first Pots of Evil Feuerzangenbowle meet-up at the Rindermarkt, Munich central Christmas Market. And thus the offical launch thread, following several PM requests by PoE fans young and less so.

Every Friday in Advent - 5pm onwards, close 8:30pm.

TT's Pots of evil wiki entry gives the location and background information, discussion from previous years will either encourage attendance or put the fear into you.

Pots of Evil is an open event. Follow-on events are at the discretion of the individuals, no affiliation to other Friday events should be implied.

Sadly, the previous choir mistress, Madame Showem, will not be available but it is hoped that new PoE recruit Cookie will be of fine voice for renditions of "The Chipmunks' Christmas" CD. It is expected that all the usual decorations (dead goat, spooky deer heads, unshelled peanuts, Stammtisch sign made out of a paper napkin, MonksTown...) will also be available.

Attendance is at own risk, food consumption is advisable. Schwabing hedge reservations may also be made now. ph34r.gif
mere
it seems to have been deleted but there was another thread where a few others mentioned meeting up.
Renia
I will be there with bells on wink.gif
MonksTown
I'll be staying with the Kinderpunsch, would never go for the stiff one etc etc. biggrin.gif
sarabyrd
I'll try to be there, weather permitting with Santa Claus ear-muffs.
Katrina
MonksTown, it is usually you liable to incite a riot, more Schuß than the bleedin' Army, you are.
Am still proud of that graphic I did the first year, who was responsible for the PoE name? Was it pootle? And how many years have we been doing this now? Is it 3 or 4?

For info: Pots of Evil refers to the effects suffered by the first group of TTers the first time they drank them, plus the same effects suffered by all others their first time. So if you haven't done PoE, let the evil take you!. Thanks to all the nagging PMers to get the thread going - you know who you all are and you better all turn up!
Mrs Peel
Count us in chick - I've been looking forward to this since they closed the shutters!
MonksTown
I only casue a riot when after about five stiff ones I start "singing" The Pogues and Kirsty McColl to wind the Germans up who want a "sinnliches, gemütliches Fest" ph34r.gif
Shaggy
time for really bad hangovers and frost bitten extremities already?

I'll be there.
Katrina
Shaggy, will you go sausage fetching again? Please? ph34r.gif

I got some big shoes to fill, but if I start practicing now, I think I might be up to the task.

As rum is one of my most favorite things in the world, I will be very drunk and making an ass out of myself. Come along and see the show, kids!! ph34r.gif

Come along and see the show, kids!!

Even though this is Germany, there is such a thing as Jugendschutz - not all shows are suitable for those under 18. Or over 18 either...

One logistical thing people should know about POE is that these lushes, I mean lovely people like to cram into the building at first, so it gets very hot. Then the building can no longer contain them so it gets moved outside. For your own comfort, dress in layers and leave your big briefcases in the office.
Carm
wear warm shoes!
Renia
How much colder will it really get in the next two weeks?
Carm
this is Munich Renia- it can be -10 tomorrow and +20 Sunday. huh.gif
jml
@renia, well i dont know about the cold but lets say POE is not the place for strappy shoes and high heels. Aside from the weather, the floors get slippery and wet in the building, its not paved immediately out of the building so heels will sink if the ground is soft. You can stand on the pavement but its not very much fun that way.
Renia
Ok, I will leave my gown and tiara at home this time...

Do I have a reputation for overdressing or something biggrin.gif ?
Carm
no, its your first winter here, and we are helping you before you freeze. smile.gif
jml
or stumble around in boot heels desperately looking for a place to pee out the PoE. thats fun to watch too.
Mrs Peel
and thats just the fellas... smile.gif
