CD burn - tracks you would include

i signed up for this CD burn thingy* on another site, and I'm at a loss what to include, which is really bad because I've already missed the deadline for sending it off *looks sheepish*

if you had to put together 18 songs or so for a compilation, what would you whack on there?
in this particular instance, the only thing i know about the 2 recipients is their gender (based on their first name) and where they live. i know nothing else about them. i started putting together a compilation of arabic music, but thought that might piss them off. unsure.gif

any ideas? what would you whack on there? am looking for inspiration, stuff you think not many people would know. not stuff that is in the charts, or really famous stuff that *everybody* knows already.
you don't have to list all 18 if you don't want to smile.gif

* in case you've never come across one before, you put together a compilation of music from your collection, send it off to 2 random people you may or may not have ever met, and in return get 2 compilations of new music back (not necessarily from the same people)

For something a bit "different", I'd include a song or two from the soundtrack of Black Cat White Cat.
Topsy
come on peeps - don't let me down
i need inspiration, or i'll get in trouble

just name me a band or singer that you think are fab and that people might not have heard of... please!
Kay
I just did. dry.gif

Well, I guess I'd suggest Ani DiFranco, but maybe she's too well known. Or maybe it's not really what you're looking for. I like the songs "Untouchable Face" or "Shameless"from the "Dilate" album.
Topsy
@kay - thanks, and I checked out some samples of his stuff smile.gif

@jennyL - ani difranco is a good idea, thnx smile.gif
Kay
I hope you know that second post was a joke. smile.gif

"Brass Buttons" or "$1000 wedding" from Gram Parsons if you're putting any kind of sad songs on there.
"Brass Buttons" is in memory of Gram's mother who drank herself to death, "$1000 wedding" has Gram's real-life experience of being jilted at the altar. Lyrics - right now I don't think there is a more heartbreakingly beautiful song in existence.

QUOTE
And why ain't there a funeral, if you're gonna act that way
I hate to tell you how he acted when the news arrived
He took some friends out drinking and it's lucky they survived
Well, he told them everything there was to tell there along the way
And he felt so bad when he saw the traces of old lies still on their faces
So why don't someone here just spike his drink
Why don't you do him in some old way
Supposed to be a funeral
It's been a bad, bad day

It's all Gram at my place at the moment, goes with autumn.
Otherwise, the Marie Antoinette soundtrack will give you some ideas - lot of your stuff on it.

I'll lend it to you the next time we meet. It's fab - I've been trying to practice dancing to it in preparation for my sister's wedding (she's not even engaged as yet but just a matter of time if my mum has anything to do with it! rolleyes.gif ) Don't want them laughing back home at the uncoordinated Western Paki if you know what I mean... laugh.gif
Sin
1 CD?
hams
Just that song in particular Sin.
Topsy
were you asking me if i'm only making one cd?
or were you asking hams?
*confused*

if you were talking to me, then you only have to make one, but i got a delivery from one of my "makers" and it had 3 cd's in it - and they're all fab
am considering doing an arabic/south-asian cd and a punky/"alternative" one

hams, would love to borrow some bally sagoo
Sin
Well, I'd put in that one that goes Saturday night beneath the plastic palm trees, dancing to the rhythm of The Guns of Navarone. Always makes me larf. laugh.gif
Topsy
isn't that the Leyton Buzzards?
I don't think I've got that.

I thought about suggesting doing something like this on TT, but I was too scared I'd get rottweilered for it by the bully-boy-brigade. ph34r.gif
