It seems the children that the "Nazis" believed to be the "most Aryan looking" that were put into Nazi families for indoctrination are meeting for the first time.

I am sure that there are many sad stories to tell and hopefully people will be sympathetic to their plight as many were just taken from their parents, taken to a new country and left to the devices of their new Nazi approved family. I find that very sad and even sadder that they have suffered prejudices throughout their lives through no fault of their own

Anni-Fryd Lyngstrom of Abba fame was one of the Lebensborn. Her mother was Norwegian and her father a German soldier. Sho only discovered her father was still alive when a newspaper 'exposed' her as a 'Nazi child' in a particularly unpleasant piece of gutter journalism.

It was Anni-Frid Lyngstad. She was reunited with her father as a result of the gutter journalism.

oops, I knew it was Lyng-something. She was reunited with her father but I rather doubt this silver lining made the roastiung she got from the press any the less painful.

I don't know. Her mother died when she was 2 and she always thought her father had died. She was fully aware that her father had been a German soldier so I'm pretty sure it wasn't the first time she had had Nazi thrown in her face. The reason why she grew up in Sweden in the first place was because her mother had to flee Norway due to her association with the Germans.

What's also interesting to note is that she was married to a German aristocrat and through him became friends with Queen Silvia of Sweden whose father was a registered member of the Nazi party. You should also ask Norwegians just how neutral the Swedes really were during WW2. Sort of as "neutral" as the Swiss.

You should try talking to the Danes about the Swedish, now that is interesting. It may be of interest to you but my commanding officer had a grandfather that was born and bred SA. Every 6 months he volunteered for the Wehrmacht during WWII but was refused as he was the engineer in charge of the local dam and his work was deemed too important to let him join the debauchery of the marauding Nazis. How neutral was SA during the war? (probably less "neutral" than the Swiss.)

Anni-Fryd Lyngstrom was a baby, an innocent. She could do no more for the atrocities of her parents than you could for yours. Her private life was destroyed by sleazy tabloids. Hope the same thing happens to you, JN. Go die.

Anyway, Lyngstad knew who her father was (and he was just a foot soldier, it's not like he was Mengele), it's just that she thought that he had died during the war. From what I remember seeing on some show, the reunion was brief, but went well.

You should not hide the truth from people no matter how difficult it may be. 'The truth will out' and the sooner it does the quicker you can get over it.

We need more straight speaking and openess not less.

I believe it could well be. A few years after the German-American Bund was founded in 1933 Walt Disney, along with his lawyer Gunther Lessig and many Hollywood personalities interested in the Nazi movement, would attend the Bund's meetings. By the time the U.S. entered World War Two Disney saw Hitler's true colors and his studio subsequently released a few anti-Nazi propaganda features.

More than sixty years after the end of World War Two it would appear that it is not only Germany that has not come to terms with its legacy.

I read with interest last year about the plight of the Lebensborn in Germany. Thousands of children were abducted during the war and placed with Nazi families simply because they possessed the Aryan qualities of having blonde hair and blue eyes. Many of these children grew up facing trauma and prejudice because of their origins.

However, I was shocked to read today about Norway’s Lebensborn; children fathered by German soldiers during the War. Although many of these children were shipped to Germany, thousands remained in Norway. Post war they became the target of discrimination and abuse because of their German parentage. Many were placed in mental institutions on the blurred premise that their Mothers’ must have been mentally ill to consort with German soldiers and therefore they must be mentally ill as well.

One hundred and fifty of the “war children� are now suing the Norwegian authorities at the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg.
