Hey all,
I am new here and working as an aupair/nannie. I was wondering if there is anything happening around Munich in the weekdays for children so that i can take my child that i look after along as he does not get to socialise with other children. If no body knows of anything, is there any other nannies/aupairs with this problem and would like to arrange meeting up?
Marie
hey i don't have problems with my kids, but if you ever want to meet up without kids let me know.

hi i am also an au apair just outside of munich. I don't think u sound sad because i am also desperate to meet some english people just to relax and talk normally with. where are u from? and where are u in munich?
okay. there are a few other aupairs around. some of them have only been here a month or so. why don't we organize something for this week or next?
are people generally available mid-late morning (so 10ish or so) or afternoons or evenings?
i know, generally, but it varies daily, i'm free from 10-1 then again in the evening 7pmish.

Can you read a map? No, I'm not being sarcastic, with a good map you should be all right because in central Munich at least the general layout and street signs are clear and easy to follow.

Hmm...Lets just say that i got lost in
Marienplatz looking for the station on Thurseday until 5.15 am!?!? I think that will answear your question on if i can read a map

Come to think of it, shortly after our arrival in Munich my husband also got lost at
Marienplatz - he took the first
U-Bahn exit he saw but once above ground had no idea where he was. Good thing that the Frauenkirche was in its usual spot to help him get his bearings!

What about a Sunday afternoon? In theory none of the parents are working as everything in Munich is shut, except restaurants which most of our families will be at to save doing cooking. Any thoughts on the times? Maybe this Sunday?

Im also keen to meet up, I started as an aupair here in September, lasted 2 months and had to get out. Im now crashing on my friends lounge, (only friend ive made since being here, sad i know.) but im soon to be renting a room else where.. I'm working as a
babysitter to help support myself, so hopefully that counts in the scheme of things..

hopefully we will have more than one meet up, we should try and make it a regular thing I think. Maybe not every week, but every other. At for at least half the time, no kids or work talk allowed - at least half should be about having fun, just about us! I am happy to organise something if people are keen, well actually I will probably ask the lovely Mere to help, as she is pretty good at that sort of thing.

Oh oh! i want to meet to. Hi ladies, ive been here for a little over a month now.. i live in a tiny little village near Lohhof. I want to meet too, minus the kid. But the busses and Sban and Uban dont run on sundays i dont think? Soo im going to skip this weekend out, but if i can invite myself to next week and get dropped off that would be great. .. Im nice i promise.. but getting desperate for friends has lead me to internet meetups. p.s. hope everything works out this weekend!

Maybe the network doesn't extend as far as the village you're in, but I assure you that Munich public transport runs on Sundays too.

Jamieson, I had that problem when I lived in a little village out near Baldham... My options on a sunday.. were to beg a lift off the family to the nearest Sbahn. Im so glad I dont have that problem anymore..
Any chance you can get into Munich on a week night? week nights work better for me.. and as some of us cant make it on Sunday, maybe we could organise something one night early next week...

Nov 16 2006, 6:49 pm
so why don't we do what the lovely Miss Dunners, my favorite kiwi, has suggested and meet up on Sunday? we'll say mid-day. later tonight there'll be an update as to time and place.
please post here if you have a preference for just chilling at a cafe/pub or doing something (museum, movie, a park). The weather is supposed to be a high of around 10C (b/t 6-12C) so around 50F.
i'd suggest for the first meet up prob a place that's not super crowded nor overly loud like a coffe place or something.
mere
Nov 16 2006, 6:50 pm
don't worry it takes me a good 45-60min to get into town too

Nov 16 2006, 6:53 pm
Where do you guys live, 40-50mins into town??
mere
Nov 16 2006, 6:54 pm
i live in
Gruenwald, but it's a 15-20min walk to the tram, then a 20min ride to the u/sbahn then taking that to wherever i'm going

it's really not that far when i drive it's faster (but i rarely drive all the way into town only part way and leave the car then jump on public transport)

A coffee place sounds like a good idea i think as this will enable us to relax and get to know each other as that's what im wanting really is people that i can relate to and chat about things...Yeah ok...it boils down to one fact...I need friends (How sad to admit!!!)
