Most people have heard of only the Mens EHC München ice hockey team, when in fact there exists a Womens EHC team as well. The hockey is decent quality and there are no entrance fees. (read: free) The home games are held at the Olympiapark Ice Rink (as with the Mens team).

The next home game is this Saturday November 4th at 7:30pm. Come out and support some good hockey!!

Check out their website for more info... http://damen.ehc-muenchen.de/

Oooh...a matchup with the hated ESV Königsbrunn Penguins. It should make for a good night out.

@canuck - We'll touch base tomorrow to confirm.

darn, tomorrow is a hashing saturday. Funny, I called all over Munich and Bavaria to find a women's team, even the Olympic Center and was told there are none in Munich. rolleyes.gif

"The Hockey is decent quality"... No it ain't... Bloody awful if you ask me... An ex-colleague of mine used to play for the Augsburg women's team when they were in the Bundesliga mnay years ago... As we spent most of our free time watching the sport, myself and some friends showed support and attended a few games... It really was not good at all...

The only women's games worth watching are in the olympics and world championships but then only if the US or Canada are one of the teams involved.

I have attended one men's game so far this year. The quality of the hockey was absolutely abysmal (on the EHC München side), but the festive nature of the crowd more than made up for it. One of the best games I've attended for that reason alone.

Yeah. The difference in quality between 2 leagues can be unbelievable at times. The problem with Munich hockey is that they just cannot compete with the football and they never really last very long in the higher leagues without going bankrupt. They have done it twice in 13 years and have the rather unfortunate record of winning the German title twice and going bankrupt the following year (OK, the second one was due to Anschutz moving its licence to Hamburg due to the fact that they were losing money hand over fist in Munich)...

The fact that they do not charge entrance speaks volumes for the state of women's Ice Hockey in Germany... It is a shame as the top international level really is good quality

OK so the playing ain't great, but at the end of the day it's still hockey and the atmosphere is fab. It's all good fun and for those of us that need our hockey it's a fix.

It makes me laugh because whenever I tell people at work I'm going to a hockey game they ask which kind.
I say, Dudes I'm Canadian, there is only one hockey.

I get the same, Hockey is Hockey, not Field Hockey (was so pissed off recently- looking thru the TV guide and saw in Eurosport- Women's hockey games- its was field hockey dry.gif ).

Quick review of the game:

It was one of those matchups where you could tell who the winner would be based on the pre-game warmups. The final score was a 7-1 defeat for the home team. The last two goals came late against the backup goalie. The starting goalie and defense for München did a decent job despite the score. There was absolutely no offensive push as EHC München's only real scoring chances coming on breakaways. There were far more penalties than I expected (for both sides). München's powerplay was nonexistent, to the point of almost giving up a shortie with a two woman advantage.

Friends in the know told me this is only EHC München's second year in existence, so it could easily have been much worse. Additional experience should allow the girls to become more competitive in the future.
