Its definitely early days but i'll be in Wiesbaden in December and think it would be nice to get a group together for curry...

Anyone interested?

Any recommendations where we should go?
chickenmadras
I live in WI so would definitely be up for a curry biggrin.gif

There are a couple of options...

Taj Mahal which is currently closed for renovation - not sure when it reopens. Last time i walked past there was no notice saying when renovations were due to be complete.

Shalimar - in the centre of town

There are also a couple of Indian restaurants in Mainz...i went to one and it was pretty poor but being from Birmingham i guess i am pickier than most when it comes to my curries!

There are loads of Thai restaurants in Wiesbaden...maybe that's a better plan?!

Failing that i've got a good stash of Pataks paste, poppadoms, lime pickle and naan bread...
rusty
Cool! Have you been to Shalimar?

Thai is also fine with me - am leaving it up to the Wiesbadeners to decide wink.gif.

Anyone from Mainz, Frankfurt or anywhere else nearby is ofcourse also more than welcome!
chickenmadras
Nah not been to Shalimar. I only moved here 5 weeks ago and most folks i've met live in Frankfurt so have been heading there most weekends.

There are a few nice lounge type bars in Wiesbaden for some post-curry beers & cocktails and there's a pretty lively Irish pub here too biggrin.gif

With a bit of luck we might be able to get a few of the Frankfurt crowd over...depends if I can presuade them out onto the S Bahn on a school night...
Purple Muffin
Or the other option would be to come for curry in Frankfurt biggrin.gif

I might be up for coming to Wiesbaden though but I'll most probably drive tongue.gif

I second that PM, sounds like they are cramping your style a bit. biggrin.gif Cant make it to WI but keen on a Frankfurt cuzza if its on.
rusty
this time around Wiesbaden... please...
Little Britain
I'm up for going for a curry in wiebaden! I heard that that Shalimar place was good.
quite like the old part of the town actually, there's some nice bars and restaurants.

would be up for a night out in wiesbaden soon actually, any fellow Frankfurters up for going over there sometime?

Sounds like you've already found some decent places to go ChickenMadras!
chickenmadras
Yeah i'll arrange a Fri or Sat in Wiesbaden sometime...sounded like there were a few peeps interested mainly cos it's "something different". Once i've sorted out my new car i'll get to work. I'm a bloke i can't multi task!!
London girl
I'm definitely up for that too, I lurrve curry. I'll finally be living in Wiesbaden by then, so my partner and I would love to come along.
gusto10
Can’t make it to WI on a school night at the moment, but interested in checking out somewhere new at the weekend if a plan is being hatched.
rusty
Ok, I have the definite date when I can do curry in Wiesbaden. Its the 13th of Dec (Weds night). Hope that's ok with the rest of you. smile.gif
nikio
Hey guys, Im in as well. End of the week is always easier for me, but it doesnt really matter. I'd be keen to meet up even earlier for dinner as well (say this month) in Wiesbaden , if anyone else is keen. And also keen for a proper night out in Wiesbaden, I've been here 5 months and seen pathetically little. I think I've seen more of the rest of Germany in that time than Wiesbaden!
chickenmadras
Having consulted a wise man in my local Irish Pub, I have on good authority that a place called "Tandoorian" just off Wilhelmstraße is better than the Taj Mahal and Shalimar.

I had a wander past there yesterday and they've got a pretty decent menu with mains generally between 10 and 15 Euro.

There's a bus stop right next to it for anyone coming from out of town, plus it's only 10 mins walk from my place biggrin.gif
rusty
How far is it from Kranzplatz? Walkable?
chickenmadras
hell yeah Kranzplatz is 400 metres away. You staying in the Ibis or the Radisson then?
rusty
our company is stingy wink.gif so 3 guesses which one.
rusty
since wise men at irish pubs are usually very wise, Tandoorian is fine with me smile.gif.
chickenmadras
he he could be worse...could be a Formel 1!

Our place is crazy...when we book hotels we stay in Sofitels and the like but to get a bloody Ryanair flight signed off to go to visit a supplier in Krakow in a couple of weeks i need a VP's signature!
rusty
does the VP refuse to sign if the flight costs more than €1.99???
rusty
Since i'll be there for a few days, if anyone wants to go to the Xmas markets on Saturday in either Wiesbaden or Frankfurt, i will book my train back for late afternoon / early eve.

Ryanair? We are actually not allowed to book Ryanair flights at work we have to do them all through our in house travel agent something to do with insurance or something!

Oh that sounds good. Maybe we could have a Frankfurt Christmas Market meet like last year? I'll be here that weekend biggrin.gif
rusty
@PM, cool! We should prob. start another thread though...
rusty
just wanted to update this thread and start a list, so far we have:

1. chickenmadras
2. Purple Muffin
3. Little Britain
4. London girl
5. nikio
6. rusty + 2
chickenmadras
So if i book a table for 10 somewhere we should easily be covered. Right, that's this week's task wink.gif
rusty
Sounds good! Am looking forward to meeting everyone!!!
Little Britain
I should be able to make this too
Purple Muffin
I cannot promise at the moment as that is the only night next week that I have 'free' not doing my bank balance or waistline any favours at the moment!!
chickenmadras
@ PM - it's me that has to watch the waistline!

I was built like a gippo's dog before I left the UK. Now I'm wasting away to an elephant tongue.gif
Little Britain
Easily done in Germany tongue.gif
Purple Muffin
@LB and the other Frankfurters I'll drive if I go next week so if anyone wants a lift...

@chickenmadras what is the parking like?
chickenmadras
Parking is a nightmare on the street because it is smack bang in the city centre, however there are loads of Parkhäuser nearby including one at the Kurhaus / Theater which is pretty much across the street.
