Its definitely early days but i'll be in Wiesbaden in December and think it would be nice to get a group together for curry...
Anyone interested?
Any recommendations where we should go?

I live in WI so would definitely be up for a curry
There are a couple of options...
Taj Mahal which is currently closed for renovation - not sure when it reopens. Last time i walked past there was no notice saying when renovations were due to be complete.
Shalimar - in the centre of town
There are also a couple of Indian restaurants in Mainz...i went to one and it was pretty poor but being from Birmingham i guess i am pickier than most when it comes to my curries!
There are loads of Thai restaurants in Wiesbaden...maybe that's a better plan?!
Failing that i've got a good stash of Pataks paste, poppadoms, lime pickle and naan bread...

Cool! Have you been to Shalimar?
Thai is also fine with me - am leaving it up to the Wiesbadeners to decide

.
Anyone from Mainz, Frankfurt or anywhere else nearby is ofcourse also more than welcome!

Nah not been to Shalimar. I only moved here 5 weeks ago and most folks i've met live in Frankfurt so have been heading there most weekends.
There are a few nice lounge type bars in Wiesbaden for some post-curry beers & cocktails and there's a pretty lively Irish pub here too
With a bit of luck we might be able to get a few of the Frankfurt crowd over...depends if I can presuade them out onto the S Bahn on a school night...

Or the other option would be to come for curry in Frankfurt
I might be up for coming to Wiesbaden though but I'll most probably drive

Hey guys, Im in as well. End of the week is always easier for me, but it doesnt really matter. I'd be keen to meet up even earlier for dinner as well (say this month) in Wiesbaden , if anyone else is keen. And also keen for a proper night out in Wiesbaden, I've been here 5 months and seen pathetically little. I think I've seen more of the rest of Germany in that time than Wiesbaden!

Having consulted a wise man in my local Irish Pub, I have on good authority that a place called "Tandoorian" just off Wilhelmstraße is better than the Taj Mahal and Shalimar.
I had a wander past there yesterday and they've got a pretty decent menu with mains generally between 10 and 15 Euro.
There's a bus stop right next to it for anyone coming from out of town, plus it's only 10 mins walk from my place

How far is it from Kranzplatz? Walkable?
chickenmadras
Nov 6 2006, 12:34 pm
hell yeah Kranzplatz is 400 metres away. You staying in the Ibis or the Radisson then?

so 3 guesses which one.

since wise men at irish pubs are usually very wise, Tandoorian is fine with me

Our place is crazy...when we book hotels we stay in Sofitels and the like but to get a bloody Ryanair flight signed off to go to visit a supplier in Krakow in a couple of weeks i need a VP's signature!
rusty
Nov 6 2006, 12:51 pm
does the VP refuse to sign if the flight costs more than €1.99???

Since i'll be there for a few days, if anyone wants to go to the Xmas markets on Saturday in either Wiesbaden or Frankfurt, i will book my train back for late afternoon / early eve.

Ryanair? We are actually not allowed to book Ryanair flights at work we have to do them all through our in house travel agent something to do with insurance or something!

Oh that sounds good. Maybe we could have a Frankfurt Christmas Market meet like last year? I'll be here that weekend

@LB and the other Frankfurters I'll drive if I go next week so if anyone wants a lift...
@chickenmadras what is the parking like?
chickenmadras
Dec 7 2006, 5:08 pm
Parking is a nightmare on the street because it is smack bang in the city centre, however there are loads of Parkhäuser nearby including one at the Kurhaus / Theater which is pretty much across the street.
