Looking outside my much too hot office I see perfect sunshine outside. Which makes want to outside, if possible somewhere as close as possible to the Isar. So to make up for the sunshine I'll be missing during the week, the plan is to catch up on it during a BBQ at the Isar this Saturday. Which I hope will also be a good way to get rid of the GNO/BNO hangover I'll bound to have after Friday night

.
The weather forecast for this weekend is still a little unclear, since different websites forecast really different types of weather on Saturday. But the plan is as follows; if the weather looks fine around noon on Saturday we give it a go and get down to the Isar for some swimming/sunbathing/get rid of the hangover around two. Later in the evening, around five we can start the grilling. If the weather stay ok, I hope we'll be able to continue until late, and enjoy a beautiful night at the Isar.
where: At the Isar near Thalkirchen
when: 2 o'clock how do I get there:
From U3 Brudermuhlstrasse U-Bahn station, exit Urbanstrasse and walk down Urbanstrasse towards the Isar (eastwards). Cross the street there and walk on until you come to the path alongside the Isar. Then walk upstream until you see the wooden pedestrian bridge. Cross the bridge halfway on go down the left side, that the BBQ place.
From U3 Thalkirchen U-Bahn station, Take the exit towards the
Isar and cross the bridge. Walk down the path downstream along the Isar. When you're at the wooden pedestrian bridge cross it halfway and go down at the right side.

Sadly gonna have to give this one a miss as I'm off on my travels around Bavaria with Foxy - I reckon the weather should be OK myself - perhaps a passing storm for 20mins, but you can hide under the trees or something...

yep, I also think the weather will be ok. Yesterday's forecast for today was really bad and it turned out to be beatiful weather.

Wont be able to make this one, though from what I am hearing, the weather forecast is not looking good for this weekend.

@3 lions - I think it will be fine, the wetter.de forecast is very bad indeed but according to cnn the weather should be much better. And it's a saturday, so we don't need to plan much and buy the food/drinks just shortly before the BBQ.

I'll be there!
FYI: I believe there's no "exit Urbanstrasse" on the Brudermuehlstrasse station, but when you get out of the ubahn there, you have to exit in the driving direction (unless you come from the south direction of course, but I guess most of the people come from the city...) and then the exit on the left side.

I recommend you go to Thalkirchen station, Urbanstrasse is not a direct link and it's miles! The thalkirchen station is right by the bridge so you can't really miss it. I'll be up for it weather-depending, although I'd have to leave early for rollerblading...
or how long do you intend to stay there? Maybe I could come after my course?

We've already had this discussionBut yes, Thalkirchen is easier. Though VDB uses the other station as thats the direction he comes from.

Thalkirchen is also closer by for me, but the BBQ and food will be stored at San's place, where you pass by on your way from Brudermuehlstrasse to the
Isar.
But this time I'll be there by bike, so I can pick up the poor souls who get lost along the way

hmm, i love the
Isar but wasn't somebody suggesting some place north of English Garden with grass? My feet really hurt last time and I would love just to lie down and relax which is impossible on these stones...
not sure if I am going to be there... have to study

Old, old, old joke Rog. Apparently 1/4 of the population of the World are Oriental - in my family there's me, Mum, Dad and Brother Hing-Ding-Lo. I think it's dad.

But isn't it like a general rule that you can't use BBQ's where there's grass? I have the view of the
Isar with grass banks. There are lots of people starting a BBQ there, but they're also gone pretty quickly. I guess the Sicherheitsdienst is always on the lookout...
@bubblylady - heard about that, but at Thalkirchen you can swim in the
Isar which is one of the reasons to go there.

@BL
The place in English Gardens has a stone area designed for BBQ's. It has big open fields, plenty of shade options and is also next to a river.
Maybe try the next one there... 5 mons from Studentenstadt so pretty central.

Yes this is the north part. Super cool up there, a little wild i.e. not as manicured as the rest of the English Garden (even better).
Room to:
Throw a Frisbee,
Play some touch rugby
Baseball
Sleep in comfort while someone cooks your meat
Etc, Etc
and right on the river.
Not may people up there either. Fell like you are in the wilderness a bit (10/10).

Absolutely badger - it wouldn't be a good day out at the river without it, would it? I was quite sad that I was gonna miss it when I realised that I was gonna be away, but as I see a "let's go here" "NO! Here!" discussion coming up, and now a picture of several bare male arses, I think a deserted mountain road might just about be perfect...

I won't be back from Leipzig untill around 8pm. Will the party still be going at that time???
btw the bbq area in the northern part of the e g is much better than TK (and is closer for me) so that would be my preference. I couldn't find everyone the last time the bbq was in TK (toooo many people) so ended up cycling home again after lookinmg around for hours

well ok so either VDB volunteers to close the thread and re-open another one to avoid confusion, or we stick to this plan and go to the english garden next time.
I don't care, Badger I expect I'll be coming and willl drive so I can go to rollerblading afterwards, but then I'll be leaving early so you'd need to get a lift home...
I don't care much about the BBQ spot, as long as I get some sun in the weekend it's fine with me. However if we go to the Englishe Garden we can't use San's BBQ, so some other people have to provide one then.

my two cents, VDB organized it, then stick to the plan. if someone else wants an english garden dig, then they should organize that another time. this wasn't a thread "where should we bbq this wknd". there could also be duelling bbq's.
@graham: i rode me bike all the way from freimann (ca. 16 km) and had to telephone to find them. luckily someone picked up! thanks DW.
just to clear up something VDB, the ISAR flows north to south (into the danube), so:
upstream = south
downstream = north
otherwise excellent directions. and the map helps. sorry am a geo geek.

I agree with Elfenstar, Flaucher it is, English garden next time.
@ Badger I've just been banned from doing ANY sport for a week!

(don't worry rugby team, I'm playing Sunday

).. but I'd better give rollerblading a miss, so can stay for the whole barbie and give you a lift home. (sorry I didn't make it last night by the way, was too late back)

OK, rumour has it that the weather looks shitty for the next week. But I just checked, and there's a 19% chance of rain tomorrow (so the usual heat shower in the evening, I guess). And Sunday looks perfect
wetter.deJust in case it does rain, Petal is suggesting we go ten-pin bowling and get horribly drunk

Should we make a plan B just in case?
