Hi Im new to the area and I read many post on Munich section about ski day trips that cost 100 euro and less. Im curious if there are any bus companies and such around Frankfurt that also have day trips for ski season 2006-07. I appreciate any input. Have a nice day.

There is the
Perfect Sunday offered by skimaxx. I have not been on any of those trips but they look like they might be worth trying it for a days skiing!
For weekend trips you might also want to try the
Frankfurt International Ski Club They are a mixed bunch of people and I had a great time when I went to Ischgl with them at the end of last season
Going from Darmstadt there is also the
ESOC ski club. I have not been any of their trips yet but my boyfriend raves about them and I'll be trying a few this season. They are slightly cheaper than the FISC trips. You do have to pay a bit more if you don't work for the space people but it is not very much and still cheaper than the FISC ones as they include ski pass.

You can go on the bus from Munich for much less than 100 euros a day - more like between 30 and 40 euros including day pass.
From Frankfurt this is going to be a lot harder cause it really is a lot further away from the slopes. I wouldn't have thought that day trips would be possible (not to the Alps anyway)
Edit: After looking at Purple Muffin's link it seems I might have been wrong, but that is going to be one hardcore day. 5 hours each way at least!

They are as long as you don't mind getting on the bus at 3am!!
They cost about 59€ from Frankfurt depending on the trip.

Actually only 7 more sleeps as I won't sleep the night before for the excitement
Keeping fingers crossed on the snow front

Well if anyone is keen on doing a weekend or day ski trip (Schwarzwald maybe?) in a few weeks time when there's some snow I am happy to organise it
I am a beginner so it will have to be somewhere that has a ski school! It is probably cheaper to pool cars together and book smaller hotels than going on an organised trip i would guess...i am a buyer so i will make sure i get some good rates!!
Plus call me a cheapskate but i don't see the point in staying in a nice hotel when you're on the slopes all day and in the bar all evening...all you need is somewhere to kip at night!

I am off nov 9-12 that's veteran weekend. My friends and I are interested in snowboarding trip but we dont know where we going yet. Maybe garmisch or further down south. We live about 3omins from Frankfurt and we usually drive to Bottrop on the weekends, since most of us are beginner/intermediate.
Maybe we can get together, the more the merrier

Might sound like a stupid question but is there an all year slope in Bottrop or something?! How far is it from Frankfurt area?
Sure, i will post something a bit nearer the time if there is some interest and will arrange a Chickenmadras Tours Ski Trip

I am always up for going skiing/snowboarding.
Bottrop is quite aa drive I reckon about 2 1/2 hours from Frankfurt maybe? It is an indoor hall yes I guess good for beginners.
We could arrange a trip and hook up with Munich TTers maybe?
I am also off to Kaprun start of December driving ourselves so there could be potential for more people. We got an apartment for 20€ each per night quite good value

There were quite a bunch of us in Munich last year who went basically every weekend, often to Skiwelt but also to other places.
Stubai should be looking good for you next Thursday - forecast looks like they'll get 50cm of fresh snow over the next few days. Pity you're not going this Thursday!

bit of a novice, worried about ruining my knees et al, but would def be interested in a couple of trips...

01.Nov.2006 13:57 hrs
@ PM - work trips permitting i'm definitely up for tagging along and will be able to take one passenger too once i get my new car
@ Jonnyboy i'm a novice too so maybe a couple of shorter trips to the Schwarzwald (3 hour drive) are what we need to get some practice on the baby slopes

Oh flip have I just talked myself into organising a ski trip
chickenmadras
01.Nov.2006 14:55 hrs
I've said i don't mind doing the organising
If the resort you're going to is pretty good then i'll rally the troops and sort out hotels etc. The big advantage you have over me is that i don't have a scooby doo where the best pistes are and how long it takes to drive to them!

phew
Well myself, boyf plus 2 or 3 of his mates from the UK are heading to Kaprun first weekend in December Wednesday to Sunday so there is a possibility there...

Hmm travel Thursday, then Friday & Sat skiing then back Sunday...that's tempting. Will have to check how much holiday i've got.

We are travelling Wednesday night skiing Thu, Fri, Sat and Sun.
Why not ski the Sunday as well?
chickenmadras
02.Nov.2006 11:33 hrs
Yeah could do but because I've only got 3 months worth of holiday allowance i will probably need most of it to go home for a week at Christmas.
What's it like for beginners there - is there a ski school?
Hutcho
02.Nov.2006 12:51 hrs
Only 3 months? Thats taking the piss, even by German standards.. maybe you mean weeks..
Uncle Nick
02.Nov.2006 12:54 hrs
@Hutcho: I think currymadras means the amount of holiday that you get for haivng worked for 3 months (at least that´s what I understood)
chickenmadras
02.Nov.2006 13:24 hrs
Yeah i get 30 days holiday but i started my job in October so only got 3 months' worth of holiday entitlement for this year. If I got 3 months holiday bloody hell I would either be French or Tony Blair
Purple Muffin
02.Nov.2006 15:11 hrs
Yea but that means you get 7.5 days for this year
You'd only need to take 3 days off to go home for a week and a half at Xmas. You'd need 27th,28th and 29th. So you could fly back on Friday 22nd and come back NEw Years Day which is a Monday

03.Nov.2006 12:17 hrs
Hmm that's a good point!
I'll have a chat to you on Sat but i reckon i could definitely be tempted
Have you and Mr Muffin & his mates sorted out your accomm yet?
Silly Point
04.Nov.2006 17:18 hrs
Regarding Schwarzwald and Feldeberg. If you're looking for cheap accommodation you'll be hard pressed to find cheaper than
this hostel

I had my first lessons last year and developed a definite taste for snowboarding and even bought a set of boots which actually fit my feet (much better than those rentals!) but not had a chance to use them yet!
If anything is happening then please tell me and I'll definately come if I can make it. I'm in the beginner camp still, and will be there for some time until I get enough courage to brave a slope!
Got plenty of Holiday left this year too - Woo hoo!

Hi Billy,
Am defo up for doing a trip before Xmas...not sure as yet if i'll make it to Kaprun at the same time Muffin is going. Might be wiser to do something a bit nearer if we're both beginners to avoid a 9 hour drive! Will have to see whether they're likely to get any decent snow in the Bavarian Alps before Christmas...
Hutcho
06.Nov.2006 14:55 hrs
The Bavarian alps are only probably 1.5 hours closer than Kaprun, so either way, if you want to go to the Alps you have a long drive ahead of you!
Billy

Frieburg is close to us, its not a favourite for seasoned ski-ers but should be Ok for beginners. Question is whether there is snow there, which I have no idea! Anyone know?
Purple Muffin

Season on the Feldberg does not start until December 4th Mind you that is not too long away really is it?
I imagine not much snow there at the moment if any

Oh dear, what have I done??? I've just joined the Heidelberg Ski Club and signed up for two trips, one to Lenk and other to Bad Hofgastein!
Wondered if anyone could tell me where I could get some K2 snowboarding wrist guards? I'd rather get these than a pair of gloves with them already in, so I can use my existing gloves separately. Is there a shop that sells these? (My K2 in-liner wrist guards are too bulky for my gloves, do K2 make snowboard ones which are thinner?)
Tks for your help. Oh, anyone interested in tripping down to Feldberg some weekend too? I seem to have caught the bug!!!
Hutcho
05.Jan.2007 08:44 hrs
You seem pretty set on K2 for some reason, but I just bought some cheap rollerblading wrist guards, and then fit under my gloves fine..
Billy
05.Jan.2007 09:01 hrs
Hi Hutcho, Am happy to try any others too, but most people I know have recommended K2 which is why I went with them on my inliner gear. They have also mentioned Burton stuff, they have a factory in Austria. Being a newbie to snowboarding, I'm in listening mode, so any suggestions?
Hutcho
05.Jan.2007 09:11 hrs
I would say don't worry about the brand at all and just get one that fits. K2 is not a big name in snowboarding anyway..
Billy
05.Jan.2007 17:36 hrs
Thanks Hutcho, I'll be checking out the shops this weekend!
Purple Muffin
07.Jan.2007 19:24 hrs
@ Billy take your gloves to the shop when you get the wristguards!
Mine are from Dakine and are just about thin enough to fit under my gloves. I had the same problem that my roller blading ones were too big. I actually have two pairs of the Dakine boarding ones since Prob +1 decided to neglect to put one of my bags into the car for our ski trip I had to get new ones whilst I was there. Hence I now own three pairs of wrist guards
I would offer you the other pair but I am thinking your wrists might be a bit bigger than mine
Oh and best place I can think of to get them is Railslide in Frankfurt.
Billy

Hi Muffin!
Thanks for the great advice, I haven't got any guards yet as it was a holiday here in Heidelberg and its enviorns on Saturday, and all the shops were closed!! So will definately try that shop you mentioned! You're probably right, your guards would be too small for my hands and thanks for offering!
Looking for some good snowboarding his season!!! By the way, try pizza and cosmic bowling, its really fun!!!
