Rumour has it that the
Augustiner Beer Garden (near the
Hauptbahnhof) is the biggest in Munich. Which probably makes it the biggest in the world. Capacity for 8,000 or something. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Toytowners were there yesterday and here's the photo set to prove it. I don't think wee_mad was there. Or was he silently spying from an adjacent table maybe?

Nice photos Bob. And cool that all the TT'ers have the same shades.
As far as I know, that Augustiner has seating for about 5,000 with the Hirschgarten being the biggest at 8,000. But I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time.

WTH was that, M(&W)IB do Toytown? Shame you didn't post about it beforehand, I was looking for something to do last night...

I'm surprised there's so much talk of shaving and waxing going on, since most of the votes went to the "Afro-Comb" option in my poll.

I've been in it three times since it reopened so yes it is open.

It's open. I went on Saturday to check it out. Drank far too much lovely beer in the sun, threw up, went home and slept. Good times.

Another random fact for you. I read somewhere this beer garden originally became popular because of the great view across the road to the gallows. I think the last public execution there was sometime in the 1860's?
How quaint.

having been on The Crawl beer tour many times I can tell you that the Augustiner beer garden is the largest inner city beer garden in the world but not the largest overall. For that and more beer info the tour is highly recommendable!

What's the classification for "inner city"?
Squirrel
Apr 4 2005, 1:46 pm
i'm not exactly sure but the Hirschgarten is not considered inner city for example. The Hirschgarten is the largest in Munich overall.

That's what I was getting at. The 2 Beer gardens aren't that far apart, but Hirschgarten is bigger.

I think a couple of days at both are needed so we can determine ourselves which is bigger...

i guess the area around
Marienplatz and the
Hauptbahnhof are considered inner city. i'll ask Jason who runs The Crawl, maybe he knows more!

Seems a bit strange, dunnit?
Hirschgarten is just a stone's throw from Laim S-Bahn, hardly in the middle of nowhere...
Anyway, who cares. They're both good.

I know, I just hate it when something has to be classified to such an extent or in some strangely undefined way so as to make it the superlitive.
Like the Germans and their "Biggest in Europe" English-Garden Park.
