Where can I get replacement strings for my guitar? I've done a search on google and I find three for the whole of Frankfurt, and the "master luthiers" in Sachsenhausen that I've never seen open.

Where I come from guitar shop owners seem to have some sort of anti-business business plan that involves not advertising their presence anywhere and finding the most dingy backstreet possible from which to conduct said business. No doubt this adds to the authenticity and general experience of guitar maintenance but it's bloody annoying when you don't know where they are.

There's a small one on Berliner Str.:
Berliner Straße 20
60311 Frankfurt am Main, Germany

Failing that you could go to the big one at:

Musik-Scmidt
darmstadt
If you want to go a few kilometers south:

They have 2 shops in town.

Look in the Yellow pages (as you would do in Grimsby): smile.gif

I found 31 under musikinstrumente...several of them specialising in Guitars.

Another amateur guitar player told me the one the red light area is a good place to go (that is listed in gelbeseiten)
Hummel B. Guitar & Bass Center
Taunusstr. 43
60329 Frankfurt

The have a list of goods on their website:

And I found some guitar strings with full details

I went to the one on Berliner Str. yesterday. It was a few minutes after 7pm so I thought they'd be closed but seeing as I was in the centre I thought I'd try anyway. I got there and the bars were across the door.

But wait!! There's a guy inside playing double bass with another guy on guitar. They saw me, stopped playing and started to stare. I didn't think they were going to open the door so I started mouthing "ONE MINUTE" through the glass, followed by "ONE STRING". I think I made puppy dog eyes and whimpered a bit, as if they could hear.

Then one of them beckoned me inside. The door was open all the time. "Not every caged door is locked" he says. I felt like a right muppet. I bought a whole set of strings to try and compensate for my muppetness.

Cheers!
