Where could one get hold of some "billig" red wine and white wine in Munich? I am a student with limited means, and would appreciate helpful suggestions and pointers.

any of the cheap german supermarkets: Aldi, Plus, Penny, Lidl. Walmart also sells wine which is cheap. Even in tengelmann they have some stuff for about 2 or 3 euros.

Toom, also has cheap wine about 2-3 Euro a bottle and its not that bad, wouldn't serve it at a dinner party, but for hanging out its okay.

I actually need it for a fairly large dinner party. Any billiger recommendations?

depends on what you mean by billig, praram. As suggested, in any supermarket you will find very cheap wines. That's what they taste like, too.
If you are talking about 5 - 6 EUR per bottle, I can recommend a shop which sells wines which for that price are far better than similarly priced wines in a supermarket -
Liquid on Pariserstrasse, just off Pariser Platz in Haidhausen.
One range they sell for example is a French vineyard, Les Jamelles. Their wines are mostly in this price range and due to various reasons (inappropriate grape mixture, inappropriate location in France for the grape grown) they do not carry the D.O.C. label (ostensibly an indication of quality, but often just certification that certain rules have been adhered to). These wines, while not being the best you can find, are for their price quite excellent.
(You can also btw buy these wines even cheaper through a shipment company, www.lakaaf.de, who are fast, friendly and reliable)

or try the Forum Vini in 2 weeks, you can sample wines from around the world, then buy them at the Messe price.

There is a chain called Jacques Wein Depot which is really good I find. You can get decent wines for reasonable prices (ca. 5 €) and they have a good choice. Also you get to taste all the wines for free! And some crackers thrown in too!

explain what sort of price range you're talking about and perhaps you'll get some relevant information. you could go from 1euro tetrapaks to 20euro bordeaux depending on what you consider 'billig'.

I think the supermarkets mentioned above would stock tetrapaks of wine at low prices.
There are some other threads on this subject:
Tengelmann EUR1 wineWines at the discount marketsWine shops in MunichI was going to recommend Jacques too. I noticed they had larger
boxes of wine, which work out at around 4 EUR per litre, and probably taste ok.

Ask your guests to bring their own - might work out better in the end.

I say go to Paros (the greek place ) on monday the "drink all the wine you can for 5 yoyo day", pay them the 5 and take that whole barrel.
Else as suggested most supermarkets have 3 yoyo wine.

V-Markt in Balanstrasse is currently offering 6 bottles of selected wines for the price of 5.
Even when there is not a special offer, V-Markt offers pretty good deals on wine.
