i am moving to Eckental, outside of Nuernberg, in less than a month, hopefully for a very long time. I have been reading the forum, but from the discussions i felt really young comparatively. I am only 21, and was wondering if there were any other people around my age in the area to perhaps hang out with?
any one interested?

Hello,
I'm 26 years old and I've recently moved to Nuremberg from Canada. I was hoping that someone could give me a few recommendations about things to do and see in Nuremberg aside from the standard tourist stuff that I have all, but exhausted. Nuremberg seems like it has a lot to offer and this seems like the right place to get some unbiased opinions.

Hi everyone,
I have just come across this website and I am glad to see how active the community in Franconia is. :-)
I currently live in Nuremberg and moved from London - where I lived for almost three years, a while ago.
I would be more than happy to meet up with people in Nuremberg for some drinks, fun, and some chit-chat.
I very much hope to see some of you at the next "Stammtisch".

Hi Guys,
Possibly moving to Nurnberg for a job & seem to be getting mixed write-ups on the place!
I am from Australia but have lived all over the place! I am currently residing in Helsinki, Finland with my girl and have been doing so for over a year. Before coming here I heard that the Finns would be a bit dry and that I wouldn't find a job easily! I was here for 4 days before I was offered a job within a media agency... and I have one of the best group of mates I have had ever!!!
So I am hoping this could also happen in Nurnberg! Honestly... what are peoples thoughts on the place? I imagine I will be busy with work but socialising, pubs, clubs etc... is big in my books so great to hear what you all say...
Anybody up for a drink on Saturday (22nd September)?
Hope to hear from you all

Cheers
Mike

Hello All,
Any "older" family folk on this forum. I'm a mother of two and my husband just accepted a job in Nuremberg today so we have a lot of work ahead of us moving -- from Chicago -- finding a flat, etc. I'd love to hear any perspectives on family life in Nuremberg.
Thanks

Hi There
Well as a slight "older" person starting a family here in Nuremberg I can honestly say that the lifestyle is family friendly. Nice area with lots of natural beauty, walking trails and protected forest areas. Not as cold as Chicago in winter but no big lakes in the area. As an Aussie who has lived in Chicago, NJ and now Nuremberg I can honestly say this area is the most family friendly.

I've been living in Nürnberg for about 4 years now (I come from Boston in the US) and am appreciating it more and more. I started a support group for immigrants last spring -- we mostly speak English. We meet every Friday night, from 6 to 8, at AWOthek, Karl-Bröger Str 9, near Aufseßplatz, near the main railroad station. Please come!

Hey there!
What a great forum, wish I'd discovered this sooner.
I'd very much like to get to know some new people and make some English-speaking friends! I'm not technically _from_ an English-speaking country (Officially Norwegian, having lived in Nuremberg for about 17 years, English father), but I do consider English my first language and I don't get to speak it enough!
I'm fluent in German, obviously, and also Norwegian...but I'm interested in meeting all you Brits, Americans, Canadians, Aussies...and age doesn't really matter that much to me (I'm 20). I'm an aspiring translator, studying in Erlangen and now living in Fürth. I love music (musician), movies, reading, travelling and of course hanging out at pubs and having a good old chat with nice people. (Plus, I'm always willing to help with all sorts of language problems or translations)
So if anyone here'd like to meet up, I'd be thrilled.
Have a good one!
Sue

This is a great website! I wish I found it years ago!! I've been living in the Nuremberg area for almost 5 years now. I use to work for adidas in Herzogenaurach but now I work for a small German company with a lot of German clients. I'd love to meet up with some native English speakers!

Nov 21 2007, 6:52 pm
Hey everyone,
So I have been using TT for almost three years... and now its time to actually be a part of the discussions and to help with German therapy... ,)
I live in a small village near Hof and wonder if there are ANY English speaker out here it would be very cool to meet some new people now that I have a little time searching for work. I am from Minneapolis, MN, but was born and raised in North Dakota hence the name "Cowboy" just for fun, and far from it, also since most Germans have no idea where ND is. So with that, I have been married to my partner for 3 years we have had a VERY unsettled life for the past few years trying to make it here in Germany seems to be VERY difficult and almost impossible but we have no choice as of yet so we must stay and continue to try. My partner is German and I am a US citizen we would be interested in hanging going for dinner chatting ect. I need to try to get a job again now that my German is a bit better but still not perfect... and never will be...

gramar gramar gramar...
So If you have any interest or would like to chat drop me a message and I will reply ASAP...
Take Care!
Lucas
Dont worry too much about the grammar...

Hi Lucas, I'm also from the US and am married to a German woman, and have been here for about 4 years. Based on what you wrote about your experience of adjusting to life here, I suspect that some of our experiences have been similar. Last spring I started a support group, in English, for immigrants like us. It's in Nürnberg, where I live, and I know that's far from Hof, but you're certainly invited. We might most every Friday evening. I can give you details if you wish. And, if you're going to be in Nürnberg, please let me know and we can meet. Viele Gruße, Cooper

Well people,
after having discovered this forum by accident and poked my nose in one or two threads I suppose I ought to say hi.
Im a Brit but not new at all to Nuremberg, having celebrated my 20th anniversary here in Oct 07 (to be exact I dont live in Nuremberg at all, but in Fürth, which is lots better ;-)) .
My story is quickly told - I studied engineering in the UK (Cov Poly) with a voluntary language module, spent an extra year studying in Germany (Osnabrück FH), got offered a job by Siemens, came over in '87 immediately after graduation (actually, if the truth be told, slightly before) intending to stay 5 years and, well, Im still here :-) Im no longer with Siemens however, Im currently with an Automotive supplier based on Frankenstrasse (right next to the U-Bahn).
Im afraid I dont regard myself as a ex-pat and tend to try and avoid the sort of "sit in an irish pub and complain about not meeting any natives"-ex-pattishness I have encountered in the past like the plague. I have the advantage that I am now essentially bi-lingual, on the other hand, I had to learn it the hard way too. I am now married to a German and have almost exclusively German friends, largely as the result of being an active (rock) musician and being deeply involved in a local Radio station, Radio Z (my weekly program (in German, natch) goes out every thursday between 20:00 and 21:00 on FM95,8 in Nuremberg).
Anyway, while I am unlikely to join a "Stammtisch" and know Sur Mandir (but the original Erlangen one) and Mount Lavinia (actually havent been there for while) well enough from my own excursions (I tend to haunt "der kleine Inder" in Fürth nowadays), I am very open to helping anyone who may be struggling with the language or the vagaries of everyday German/Bavarian/Frankonian life. I am sure there re others here who can help too, but drop me a PM if you need me.
If anyone was wondering how I found this forum, I was looking for advice on the clearly famous Churchill Finance Services who cold-called me towards the end of 07 offering "ex-pat financing". I have had a meeting with one of their guys recently but obviously he decided I was too poor to be worth fleecing ;-).

Welcome to Toytown.
My Australian friend in Munich just told me about this site yesterday -- hooray. Missed the curry thing last night but would be interested in getting together to chat (and maybe whine)/network/spend happy hours. Any book lovers out there?

Well contrary to the popular introduction of having found this place by accident I was actually introduced to it by a couple current members. I first arrived in Germany in September for an internship on a military base working with the army kids for my elementary education degree. I decided that I hadn't seen enough of Germany yet and took a job as a nanny so that I could stay at least another year. I moved to Nuremberg about a week before Christmas but have already spent around a month in other countries for personal vacation as well as travelling with the family I work for. I just started tutoring for German and will start classes through the city next week but I know it will be a good while before I can converse in German so knowing some English speaking people here would be great.

You live more or less round the corner from me then. Im on the O'Darby Barracks site at the Flößaustrasse end.
The "Kleine Inder" is not a top-notch indan and tends to do a small number of variations on "things in sauce with rice" but what they do they do pretty well and they have a sensible spicyness range ("are you *sure* you want that indian hot sir?" "Thats what you ask me very time and yes").
Not worth travelling miles to visit but definitely worth popping in if youre close.

hey.
i'm matt. i've been living in nürnberg for 6 months now and thought it was time to sign up to this site.
after meeting my german girlfriend in sydney i realised i couldn't live without her and so moved over here.
i'm not having the best time as yet. i've managed to find a p/t job that just about pays the bills and i'm trundling along with the german language but it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere fast. i'm friends with my girlfriends friends but could do with something more.
i'm keen to meet some new people and if that involves improving my german, all the better.
so, i'm 24. i'm very laid back and friendly. i like playing basketball, football and frisbee, all very uncompetitively. i like going for a beer or a coffee. i like playing guitar and singing when nobody's listeing. i like listening to all types of music and am heading to rock im park this summer. i like watchin liverpool and do regularly in finnegans. i like sushi and the way there's a ridiculous amount of meat in this country.
look forward to hearing from people, matt.
i'm also on facebook if u wanna know more...

Hi everyone,
I've recently moved to Nuremberg and I am finding it pretty boring locked in my hotel room (work has put me up for a month while I look for a flat) watching German t.v. all night in the week. Is there any British or English speaking people out there that fancy meeting up for a few drinks? I have met some great people at work, mostly German and french but I would love to make some friends out of work as well.
I am 25 and love to socialize, play sports, watch sports especially the football (even if england aren't in the euros) and boxing. Talk about most things and I am always up for a laugh, even if it is at my expense! haha
Please help!

Hi, I just wanted to introduce myself. My name's Stephanie and I'm going to be in Nuremberg in a week until the end of summer. I go to college in New York and am looking to meet people and get to know the city outside of my au pair job.

Jun 23 2008, 11:56 am
Welcome to Nurnberg! It's nice to have another aupair here.

I started working here back in December. I would love to meet up with you and of course introduce you to some of the other Toytowners. I leave with the family I work for to Italy in about 2 1/2 weeks but we should definitely get together before then. Of course if your family is the typical german family they probably will vacation on the same lake as mine. Have they said anything about going to Lago di Garda?
Also you should definitely come to the Adventures in Eating Out group on wednesday nights. Curry nights on thursdays are fun too, but I have german class so I can rarely make those. I think we're still voting on where to go, so put in your vote. I'll pm you my cell number if you want to get in touch.
