The program for Winter Tollwood 2006 is now out, available in Stadtsparkassen, public transport hubs, etc. And a big disappointment it is too. They appear to have completely given up on concerts with artists that anyone has heard of and replaced them with a load of really obscure folk musicians and öko-rubbish.

Tollwood official website

The highlights this year:

  • Hansel & Gretel the Opera, by obscure 19th century composer Humperdinck
  • A "Wald-Bankett" (Forest feast) made entirely of controlled ökological products
  • The "Tiger Lillies", some kind of weird music performance thing from Luxembourg
  • Cabaret with Christian Ude and his official lookalike (I'm not making this stuff up by the way)
  • Fairytales read by Celebrities (eg Hannelore Hger, Prinz Asfa-Wossen Asserate...who?)
  • A Beatles Cover Band
  • A reproduction of the Altes Rathaus made out of organic gingerbread
  • errr...
Of course there will also be all the hopi dream-catchers, crystals, smoking paraphenalia and the rest of it. But, to be honest, I'll be giving it a wide berth.

Sounds about normal for Tollwood.

The big market tent is already up BTW. I expect that will be filled with the same procedure as last year too.

The Wald Bankett sounds good. I couldn't find any info about it on the Tollwood official website. What's it all about?

Yummy Blueberry Glühwein.

Bizarrely enough, I've just seen the first gig announcement for Summer Tollwood 2007 and Winter Tollwood 2006 hasn't even started!

I will be shocked if this hasn't sold out by the time Winter Tollwood 2006 starts - his fans are obsessive.
If you are a fan of sarcastic Schlager, go to this - he puts on a hell of a show, saw him in Stuttgart in 1995 and you'd have thought Elvis had descended from the clouds above.

Anyone going toTollwood tonight? A friend and I are planning our first visit here. Is everything outside or are the heated areas also? Need to decide the outfit you see!

There are tents and outside stalls... best to dress in layers, but overall dress warmly. Also wear solid footwear since it can be stoney/gravelly/muddy. Things are quite expensive there, so take enough cash too! And there's lots of different types of food to eat, so take an empty stomach (falafel, cvepacci (sp?), organic food, sushi, noodles, Bavarian etc).

Mostly indoor...but definately more to see than what's inside...so dress fairly warm...

...and I wouldn't get overly excited...hope there's a decent band playing out there for ya...

There are big heated tents. Very big and very heated!

But some of the outside stands and pubs are good. They have portable heaters. The little pubs you can stand and sit inside have a good atmosphere. Better than in the big tents.

I dont know whether any one else has noticed. But the Wiese (Tollwood) is actually 2 degrees colder than the rest of Munich! Its a fact!

Okay, thanks folks! So dress like an onion and wear boots seems to be the theme for tonight? Hope there is some decent music too, food sounds nice though, anything other than Pork is a bonus!

the tai food stand next to the bar( on the outside ring) in the bazaar tent is very good .
