Hi Guys,
a few people have requested this, so I thought I'd try organising it.
Venue: Calcutta, Indian restaurant at
Bleibtreustraße 17, CharlottenburgDate: 7.30pm Wednesday 1.Nov.2006
Transport: Uhlandstraße, U-Bahn U1
Restaurant prices: €11 to €14.50 for a main dish, vegetarian options available too
-- see the full menu on the restaurant's website, as linked above
Age group: open to all, but I guess most will be 20 to 35yrs
If you're a native English-speaker living in Berlin, and you'd like to meet some others for a friendly informal meal, chat, and drinks, then hopefully you can make it!
So... don't be shy. Post here today! Tell us one of the following now:
1) yes, I'm definitely in for Wednesday, November 1st
2) I'm kinda interested, but will confirm nearer the date
3) I can't make this date, but am interested in future occasions
If you're a newcomer to the forum and haven't posted anything before, please include a sentence or two by way of self-introduction. No need to reveal any private personal info. Just say something like where you're from, your age range, and what you're doing in Berlin.
OK. Over to you if you want to make it happen. Go!

----------
UPDATE: This event is now
fully booked. No more sign-ups please!

New to forum... so... an introduction:
1. Age Range: 20-35
2. Hometown: Dallas, Texas (but I'm not some crazy gun toting lunatic... i promise!)
3. Hook 'em Horns (and yes... I might be coersed into watching some college football)
I'd love to go for Indian food... but I'll have to confirm closer to the date!

The Indian food meetup is definitely on my radar, but I will also have to confirm closer to the date.
I'm 34, American, have been in Berlin more than 2 years and I'm always interested in meeting new people. Looking forward to seeing some new faces.

I'm also interested in chowing down some good Indian food and chattin up some English speaking folks. Though, I will also have to refrain from fully committing at this time...as my user name might imply, I have some commitment issues...heh heh...seriously, though, I would like to be marked down as a strong "maybe". I may also bring an Aussie friend along. I, myself, am an American lady, 35 years old, married to a German dude. I am employed as an English teacher, but like to consider myself some sort of dissedent, or artist, if you prefer, though not really professional, that is to say, not an art school graduate. I've lived in Berlin about 10 months and in Germany just under 2 years. My German sucks and I have no excuses for that, except that I find it hard enough to communicate in my own language let alone another one. I would very much like to meet some other kids into my sort of diversions...so, hopefully I'll see some of you at the Indian joint.

Sure, what the hell. I'm in.
American...TX/KS-ish...28 year old dude (male) who is over here because some US company unexpectedly sent me over here. Like Berlin though. Been here 6 mo. and struggle daily with the language. Could go for some curry though. (Indian has curry, right?)

4 definites: ferkel69, vagabond + friend, wilcohawk
3 possiblies: belle, faithinblueskies, wiggle
1 next-times: Deccie
Continue to post, even if only to say, "maybe" or "next time".
We'll take a final role-call for definites next Monday (30.Oct.2006). As mentioned, this'll only go ahead with a minimum of six people.

A) I'm interested, but will confirm nearer the date - i have class that day so between work and class, this might be a no-go.
B ) "something like where you're from"

; 25 to 35, and what you're doing in Berlin - sitting in front of a computer typing.
C) Now that my sarcastic attempt at being funny is over, I'm 30, originally from the USA (have lived lots of places there - most recently Utah) and was transferred to Berlin by my job.

Hello there,
My husband and I just arrived in Berlin last week and we'd love to start meeting people. We plan to come on Wednesday evening.
We've both lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for the last 10 years. I grew up in the Midwest. Dimitris is from Greece and speaks better English than I do.

We are in our early thirties and we just got married. He's starting a new job here. I'm writing my PhD dissertation (and thank-you notes). Looking forward to meeting you...

Hi, everyone. I hope to be there as well. Since I'm new: I grew up in San Francisco and went to college in Boston. I just graduated and am now in Berlin for a few months, doing some research on a fellowship. I look forward to meeting you...

Hi - I am also planning to come.

Best,
Peter

OK folks, this dinner is now
fully booked! No more sign-ups please!
Apologies to anyone who was hoping to make it but hadn't yet gotten their name on the list. Of course it would be great to be able accommodate everyone - but the restaurant simply can't cope with a group any larger than 18. Hence we have to limit the numbers. If you have missed out and are disappointed, remember that you can always join the
Thursday drinks night the following day, or check the
other events that are going on.
OK, on the list for this Wednesday are:
15 confirms: ferkel69, vagabond +1, wilcohawk, weejamer, BerlinBrit +1, faithinblueskies +1, katherinemkoster, fenix, Joy +1, NathanH, PeterW
6 possiblies: belle, wiggle, Lorcan, phoenix-rose, scarletohara, robberlin
This adds up to a total of 21 people. Probably a few of those will not be able to make a final confirmation. I'll check with everyone via PM and post the updated list on Tuesday.

Plus I'll have lots of free time on my hands so if anyone wants to just hang out...I am usually up for a coffee!

Hey-
I wanted to say that last night at Calcutta was a good time for me- I enjoyed meeting other expats in Berlin but was sorry that the tables were situated so that one didn't really have an opportunity to move around to talk to everyone!
But the food was good, service great and I hope this won't be the last meetup-
ok

Agreed Faithin...
Enjoyed the meet-up. A lot of interesting people...and the food was very good (as was the service--thanks Mr. Bob for setting it up there--it really was a pretty good place).
Anyway, hope to do it again some time!

the food was great, a fine bunch of people.. not much drinking going on.. people mostly have to work mid-week etc.. a few voices suggested doing it again in the not-too-distant future.. maybe somewhere on the East side of town this time. I'd be up for it. Any ideas?
