Restaurant ideas for New Year's Eve in Munich

Remember to reserve early for Silvester

A reminder that if you want to go for a nice dinner in Munich on New Year's Eve then it is not too early to make your reservations now. If you leave it until December then all the restaurants will be fully booked. The best places will be unavailable in November already.

In previous years the following restaurants have been offering dinner for under €100 per person. It's likely they'll be doing the same this year. They are all highly recommended.

Schuhbeck's Südtiroler Stuben - located on Platzl next to the Hofbräuhaus, this would probably be my own first choice if I were in Munich this year. Three course meal for around €60, or €80 for four course - not including wine.

Trader Vics - seven course Polynesian food in the basement of the Bayerischer Hof hotel. Costs around €90 per person.

Le Sud - one of the best French restaurants in Munich. Located in Schwabing, the night here will be relatively quiet but very pleasant. They are taking NYE reservations right now.

G-Munich - the website says that they have "Betriebsfeier" for the week over Christmas and New Year. I suspect they'll be open on New Year's eve though. Last year they were open and serving a seven course meal plus champagne. Nice atmosphere. Phone to confirm.

And if you feel like splashing out, try either the Four Seasons or the Mandarin Oriental hotels - both have NYE dinners from around €225 per person.

I 'spose if you're a couple in love then it's OK, but I'd hate the idea of a NYE stuck in a restaurant.

€2 portion of chips from Bergwolf and the impromptu street party on Reichenbach Brücke. You know it makes sense! cool.gif

As always the Bayerischer Hof puts on a lavish celebration with something for everyone. I went the year before last and they hosted about 6 or 7 parties for different tastes so there's something for those looking for excellent cuisine and viennese waltzing to those who would rather spend the night downing cocktails and dancing to top 40. They have several main areas that all guests can go to dance and celebrate if they get tired of their particular party.

from the website of the Bayerischer Hof:

QUOTE

Do people in Munich do what they do in Hamburg and line champagne bottles up along the middle of the street, load them with fireworks then set them off?

Or is Leopoldstr shut like it was for the world cup?

If you want fireworks out of bottles in Munich, go to the Olympiaberg. One of the best views in the city to boot, get the right spot and you can see all the big displays all at the same time while setting off your own as well. Reichenbachbrücke is also popular.

This hogmanay, I'll be in Dumfries.

I had the Bayerischer Hof send me their NYE brochure for this year and from what I remember their offers for the evening start at about 120 yoyos up to around 500+. That does not include hotel in case you were interested, but they do seem to have a good variety of partying going on.

If you want a copy of the brochure (which you can get in English), I got mine in less than a week from when I requested it.

Yes, it's expensive but you also get multiple course meals and the party is fantastic. If you have the cash it's well worth it.
