Tango dance classes in Berlin

Recommended schools, and partners sought

DivaRae
I'm a 32-year-old female looking for a male dance partner to learn tango with me. I saw that there's a place offering free one-hour lessons on Sunday evening near U Wilmersdorferstr, with a dance party afterwards. I want to check it out, but this is just for fun, laid back non-competitive dancing. I'm happily married, so I'm NOT looking for anything more than a dance partner/new friend. If you're not interested, but know a friend who might be, by all means, please pass this message along! My e-mail is divarae (at) gmail (dot) com.

Hey Diva! I live in Berlin too and am currently toying with the idea of learning tango and salsa. Just thought to share my two cents on this topic.

There are many private schools giving lessons in tango but they are ridiculously expensive (they all charge in upwards of 10 euro per hour and most have amateurs as instructors). Another option to learn tango is to attend courses offered by many clubs/bars in berlin. They normally have better qualified instructors and have better atmosphere. Checkout http://www.tangokultur.info/termine_berlin for a list of tango events being held in berlin.
Hochschulsport courses of various universities and fachhochschules are also a very good option. I personally think the quality of hochschule courses is the best, though they lack the mesmerizing atmosphere clubs/bars have. These hochschule courses are also open to non-students, though they have to pay a higher fees, which by the way, is still way less than what one would normally pay for a regular course in a club. You can check out the websites of major hochschulesports in berlin by visiting the sites of their parent schools(HU, TU, FHTW, FHW, FU). But these courses are almost always booked out within days of semester opening. So one has to be prompt in signing up for these courses.

You should also mention your height in this post. I think the biggest consideration while looking for a dance partner should be height. Dancing with a partner of incompatible height poses many practical problems and should be avoided if the sole purpose is to learn to dance.

Good luck!

Hi Diva Rae,

What sort of Tango are you talking about.

Tango Argentino??

We visited a Tango Argentino course during the summer, excellent stuff.

The school is in Spandau however

I am also doing the Dancing course there which costs €33 a month, not too bad.

and the teachers are NOT amateurs.

I would love to know this too! I know American tango, but have always wanted to learn the "real thing."

Hello everyone,

I'm new in Berlin and I came across your post.

I am a tango dancer and I have to say that I am impressed of how big the community is here and how many places there are to go social dancing.

If you are really interested in learning I would recommend going one night to one of the places listed in this website http://www.tangokultur.info/termine_berlin, in all the places they normally have a table at the entrance full of flyers with info about teachers, lessons, workshops, etc...

Unfortunately I have not been long enough here to be able to recommend anyone to learn from, but I'm sure that if you go to one of those places and ask around then I'm sure someone will have some suggestions.

I hope this helps.
