Munich is Germany's academic powerhouse

An initiative to find the best universities in Germany has resulted in great news for Munich -- two of the three best universities are in this city. The Technische Universität München and the Ludwigs-Maximillian-Universität were crowned as "Ivy League" universities and will receive an additional €13 million funding a year. The third university named in the Excellence Initiative is the Technical University Karlsruhe.

The result relieves fears that the final decision would have been influenced by political factors, such as a desire to have the three winners spread evenly throughout the country. In the end, academic arguments won over and the three winners are all in the south of the country.

In addition to the extra funding, the prestige of belonging to the elite of German universities will help the institutions attract additional funding and the best researchers. This news also puts Munich firmly on the map as the academic powerhouse of Germany.

I just got back from the TUM. What a fantastic place, I can see why it made the top 3 list.

That place makes me want to go be a student again smile.gif
