...for learning massage techniques

Hello all,

does anyone know of any massage seminars/courses in Munich for absolute beginners? I've always wanted to learn how to do a proper massage - nothing fancy - just a basic relaxation massage. I'm looking for something like a day course or a weekend course. Any ideas?

Thanks! cool.gif

You massage me and I will tell you if you are doing it right or not. tongue.gif

Actually, aren't there courses at the fachhochschule thing at night for that. I think there was a thread on here recently about it. Hum, I wonder if those courses need volunteers to be massaged?

Would you still volunteer if it was acupuncture instead of massage? wink.gif

they do offer some saturday courses in Massage at the MVolkshochschule - you work on each other, so maybe convince a friend to join with you. Prices were not that expensive if I remembe correctly.

So... who do you practise on (I loves a good massage)?

I used to love being massaged a la New Age but the problem was like a normal man I used to crack a stiffy.

Twas "hard" to relax afterwards.

Jeremy, it's not normal to crack a stiffy if a guy is massaging your shoulders...

Maddigliana, there are some good books out there on the topic, but a VHS course is probably the best bet for some inexpensive hands-on practice.

Probably a video could help, but the best way is by actually giving massages to someone and learning what kind of pressure, movements and touches produce relief in muscle tension or any other effect that you are expecting to produce.

Do you have a name of a good DVD that would help? I think my husband would like it very much if I could learn this. smile.gif

There is also a massage class (I assume private, just saw it when searching for spa packages) at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel spa.

well I know a bit of massage but need some good oil, I used to have a couple of bottles from India but have run out, anyone know where such oils are available in Munich? (I have never had to look for this item before hence no idea)
Panama
I've never used a video for that, but I'm sure that you can get one in any book store with a large selection of items.
Just go to The Body Shop, get yourself some nice-smelling body cream or oil and practice on your hubby. Gentle moves, nothing very pressing. For hand's possitions just peek into any of the many massage books they sell or look into the net.

Munich VHS courses
Many are already booked up.
Play.com DVDs, probably the Swedish Massage would be the one to look at, the Tantric one might not be the one to show in front of the mother-in-law?
Did a BTEC National in Massage Therapy about 15 years (!) ago, the contact to the person and their response is extremely important. But I haven't given a massage to someone else for a long time and there are practising therapists on TT who can probably help.
The training to do it as a job in Germany means training either as a Heilpraktiker, Physiotherapeut or medizinischer Bademeister at a state-regulated school. A beauty salon can offer a cosmetic massage but cannot offer a medical one, only those with offically recognised qualifications may do so. Training takes about 3 years here - this is just as side information.
Would also say to go and have a massage yourself so that you can find out what you personally like - the guy who works Mondays at Nordbad swimming pool is extremely good, I went to him last week (and he has the Ausbildung). My medical massages/knee physio is at Nymphenburger 108a-Reha, also excellent but prescription only.
As for oils, sure there's someone on TT who does Indian oils... but Duft & Schönheit off the Sendlingerstr. have premixed and self-mixes, nice staff too plus pretty good prices. Right now I like Muji's lavender & geranium oil, it did wonders on the scar tissue post-knee operation and I love the scent.

On that site you can watch videos instructing on different massage techniques. It is of course not something intended to replace a proper education in case you want to do massages as a profession. For that I think Katrina's info is the right way to go.
Also agreen that if you want to learn to give a good massage go an get a few yourself and learn what do you like and what not.

no showem it was a woman doing the massage and i fancied her a bit!
maddigliana
Thanks everyone ... I'll have a look into the VHS courses!

Dont know if this is what you're interested, but my wife Mrs B is a trained Masseuse and has worked all over the world.

She does private massage courses ( women or partners only ) and will come to you.
