I am planning a short break on the island of Borkum later this month and wondered if anyone living in this region, or who has visited there recently can tell me anything good or bad about the island. If it is anything like Craggy Island (Father Ted) then please break it to me gently

Back in 2000, I used to regularly go up to Norderney, which is a beautiful island not far from Borkum, I don't think.
The islands are all relatively similar up there, in that they all get a fair amount of northerly wind, but the south sides (ie: the German mainland sides) of the islands are nice. Most of the smaller islands don't allow cars to drive the streets after 6pm at night, and nightlife is relatively small, although the bars and pubs on Norderney were really quite nice. The water is very cold, so if you swim, take a wetsuit.
They are all loaded with nudie beaches too!
