Earthquake in Munich on 12.Jul.2004

Anyone here feel it?

The mention of an earthquake today on the front of Toytown is interesting, because I did notice something during the day, but I thought what I noticed was much earlier, I wasn't really paying attention to the time. I remember sitting here, typing away, and felt or heard a really low-level vibration for several seconds. Long enough to think, "hmm, I've never experienced an earthquake, but I imagine a small one might feel like this". Then the same thing a few seconds later. I looked over at some water in a vase and it wasn't vibrating, but it's a small surface and the vibration was very mild, so I may have missed it. Even if it wasn't the earthquake I felt, it's unusual that it happened on the same day.

I felt it sure enough, but I didn't know what it was – now I do cool.gif
I work in the 7th floor of a tall building, and since there was a rainstorm outside I thought it must be the wind moving the building. Was very strange though, but gave it no further thought b/c it only lasted about 2 seconds.

I don't know what our neighbours below are doing - but the building seems to quite regularly shake for no apparent reason.

jeesh I didn't even intend that to be dirty and it is...

This is about the 4th or 5th time in my life I've had one of these minor quakes (one in Ireland and baout 3 in California) and yet again I have falied to notice a thing. I did feel a weird shaking yesterday or the day before in the building...but as I said - putting that down to the neighbours.

I work on the 12th floor, and coming from earthquake country, recognized it immediately. That sharp, very brief, disoriented nauseous feeling. Looked over, and saw the plant leaves swaying a bit. Had a hard time convincing the colleagues we'd just had a trembler until I got them to 'fess up that they'd had a quick dizzy sensation. Thanks for the confirmation!

Oh, and this would be only the second earthquake I've noticed where I haven't been naked in the shower with soap and shampoo running into my eyes. Unlike the previous freakin' dozen or so 6.0+ widow-makers! Thank god! What's worse? Die with chimney crumbling on top of you - or stumbling soapy and naked outdoors, screaming like a small child, only to discover the worst damage is the lawn gnome has toppled, and the neighbors are running for their camcorders?

Yep felt it, but was in a meeting where no-one else seemed to batter an eyelid, so didn't really leap out of my chair screaming "it's an earthquake - everyone under your desks!!!"
Thought they must happen fairly regularly around here but obviously not...

i didn't feel it either, but then i didn't feel a lot of those that happened when i lived in California (I prefer "focused" rather than "oblivious" thanks smile.gif ).

@randy - clearly the chimney bit is worse, but thanks for the laugh. will keep my camcorder by the door when I move back. tongue.gif
