Having just returned from the Oktoberfest, I was wondering how soon I can book a table for next year. I read on the Schottenhamel website that you can book from November. Does anybody actually do it this early?
Carm
I am not sure, I know with the Munich Hash House Harriers group we have a standing reservation, so we get a renewal form in the spring. For a new reservation however, I'm not sure, but I am sure Sarabyrd can help you.

I normally send my reservation in early January for Fischer Vroni.

A word of warning,

I wanted to book a table for 80 people on any evening in the augustiner tent.

When I phoned them, they said that the fax bookings hotline would be open on the 1st of january.

I sent a fax with the same request every week for 5 months ( kept copies ) and was sent a letter in reply saying that "sorry, you have to book well in advance to ensure a booking". I mean, the phonelines had been open for under 30 seconds, how much earlier is there.

Does anyone know of a persons hand that I can rub with silver to get an evening reservation for 80 persons at the augustiner tent in 2007, any evening will do, but would love a friday.

I and the rest of the company would be most grateful

Why would anyone want to go to Augustiner anyway? Augustiner Edelstoff gets you (or at least me) a terrible headache the next day. Hacker is way better to cope with and seats still should be available.

But if you insist on going to Augustiner I would try to contact the owner of the tent personally in his 'home'-tavern. In case of the Augustiner-tent this would be :

The usual fax has just been sent off to Fischer Vroni. I guess normally the reply comes back mid feb...

Hofbrau is indeed the best for drinking beer in the company of English speaking tourists, with everything that brings. You won't find many locals there. Augustiner is probably the second best by this measure. Tables seat 10 people and reservations come with 2 beers and a chicken per person in the price. You must occupy your table at the time stated or it will vanish, and you must take your reservation confirmation with you to get in the tent (they are often closed because they're full). It's best to arrive as a group to ease getting in. Some tables reserved at lunchtime must be vacated in the afternoon, so be careful about that if you want a long session. During the busy times it will be very difficult to get back into the tent if you leave (for example to go play on the fairground) so best do this first, then go for a beer. If the weather is good and the beer gardens are open then this eases the situation a little as the crowd can spread out a little, but the tent will still fill up most days.

Reservation isn't essential, if you get there early in the morning, especially during the week, you'll get in anyway and doing this gives you the freedom to tour round a little - Oktoberfest is much more than just beer. Really! Even during the week if you turn up at 5pm you'll be disappointed. On the first Saturday you must be outside the tent no later than 07:00 to have any chance of getting in and they don't serve any beer until 12:00.

For the rest, search this board...

Hi All,

just wanted to jump on this chat. 3 friends and I will be in Munich for the Wiesn Oct 4, 5, and 6th. I would like to make lunch and evening reservations while we are there, is it really necessary? Can you get served beer if you don't have a reservation? And after reading your posts above, sounds like we should go ahead and do that ASAP!

What are the best tents for a bunch of mid-twenties guys from the states? Hippodrom sounds pretty good as well as Hacker and Schottenhamel. The four of us travel a good bit, and like to get chummy with locals if possible, so we aren't looking to go where English is heavily spoken.

Any advice on when to book reservations? And can only 4 people get a reservation or do we need 10 at every tent?

I have also heard that you book the place and pay for it when you get there, that's sounds too good to be true. So many questions, and all I want to do go and have fun!

Hey Tim, what is the Le mans 24hour race? And when are you "lads" going to the Wiesn?

Thanks,

Dave

For those dates you'll need reservations to be sure of getting a seat. The simple rule is that if you are not sitting at a table then you will not be served. The only official exception to this is the Pig Pen in the Hofbräu tent. Don't ask, look it up. You can get served beer if you do not have a reservation but you'll need to be sitting at a table. Four guys are gonna have trouble getting space together.

With regards to what tent to go to, everyone has their own favourites for various reasons. Read any of the many threads already discussing this to see the various views that people hold.

If you're not looking to go where English is heavily spoken then I would suggest staying away from Oktoberfest. It's primarily tourists.

If you are going to try to make reservations then do it now or it'll be too late. You can find the numbers of all the tents here. As far as I know, you must book a whole table which seats ten. The 'cost' of the reservation is the price of two beers and a half a chicken for which you will receive vouchers. I can't remember but it works out at something like €25 per head. Again, this has been discussed on countless other threads. Use the search function.

You do not pay when you get there. You pay when your reservation is confirmed as far as I know.

Good luck, and as I said, use the Search function. Pretty much any Oktoberfest question you want to ask has already been covered.

Oktoberfest threads - or at least the ones with "Oktoberfest" in the title.

Keydeck is right, to be SURE of getting a seat you need reservations. If you do not have reservations, and if you plan on being there for lunch, and you are going midweek, you can pretty well count on having a place come dinner (at least Wednesday and Thursday). You may have to stake a claim in a non-reserved section and keep your butts parked there the whole afternoon but you will have something when the fun starts.

As for the 24 hours of Le Mans, well, let´s just say it´s a car race hereabouts that makes Daytona look boring.

On the 4th you'll be ok to turn up after lunch and get a seat. On the 5th you'd want to be there around 12:00/13:00. On the Saturday you'll wanna be there no later than 9:00.
