Basketball players in Berlin

hi all,

is anyone interested in playing basketball? There are a load of nice outdoor courts all over Berlin. there won't be much summer left so lets make the most of it

we'll probably go for a weekend (probably Sunday) in the afternoon, somewhere central, but haven't decided exactly where yet.

Hey where do you play at? I play a few time a week. There is also a little indoor half court spot that I play at. I live in tiergarten, so you if are near maybe we could plan something.

Ok, maybe Im getting a little pre-emptive here because of the sunshine but I remember from last summer there were quite a lot of people interested in playing basketball. Are there any of you still here?

Obviously the offer is open to both male and female TT'ers wouldnt want to leave anyone out!

So any ideas?

I'm new in Berlin and looking for someone to play basketball with. I mainly have time on the evenings or on weekend.

Hey AndreHH, I'd definitely be interested in playing some basketball, probably on the weekends would be best for me. I just moved to Berlin about 6 weeks ago and I don't really know of good places to play although I have seen some courts around.

I don't suppose anybody knows somewhere to watch NBA games?

Hi jaywo, i have found one location. I´ll check it in preseason. And pay attention on the 1st day: Heat vs Pistons in the eastern conference!
Hope we´ll find an opportunity to play before.

I'd love to play some regular pickup games without joining a league that requires "practice", etc. High School is too long ago and I'm getting older...

Are there any open gyms where you can play nights or on weekends around town? It's getting cold fast for outdoor courts... thanks

There are a lot of different places to play in Berlin. I play in a few different halls throughout the week and on the weekend. They are all free of charge, which can be a good and a bad thing. I do know that the Max Schmeling Halle in Pburg is open everyday for free and on either friday or saturday nights the have "street ball nights" from 11 p.m. till 2 or 3 a.m. But, if people want to meet up on the weekend and play, maybe we could set something up.

Also, tomorrow I will be playing in a newly built hall with a couple of guys. It's a pretty tight group and I was invited, so I am still a bit of an "outsiders", however I will ask if it's ok to invite a few players next weekend. I know it's a bit strange to have to ask "permission", but I just don't want to put anyone out since I didn't organize it. Also, there is another hall that we play in every Tuesday night, at 8p.m. it is right off the U9 Hansa Platz. If anyone wants to play then I can give better directions.

Thanks for the info, that's perfect. MSH is not too far from either so I'll check that out soon. Looks like the "streetball night" isn't on this weekend but I'm going to think about dropping by tomorrow or Sunday for a couple hours. Right now all I need is a hoop to practice because I'm a little out of shape and probably couldn't buy a shot...

Is Max Schmeling Halle open on sundays? If that is where you are talking about going. I know, or bet said have heard, that it's open for free throughout the week, but I haven't been over there yet. If you know what times its open I would appreciate it, because I would like to be able to play once more during the week.

If anyone wants to play tonight. We will be meeting at 8 p.m. at Menzel Oberschule, Altonaer Strasse 26, D-10555 Berlin. Off of the Hansa Platz U9. The Hall is directly behind the school. There is construction going on there right now and you need to walk up about 8 stairs to get into the hall. The hall is called Guths Muths Halle I think. Hope to see a few people there.

What's happening currently with basketball? Are there Toytown people that are playing? Are there pick-up games that one can join? I'm new here, and not great in basketball (haven't played in a few months), but I enjoy playing, so it would be nice to find some not-too-competitive games.

There are a few of us playing. The other people just type that they want to play, but nothing ever materializes. We play up to 4 times a week indoors. However, you said that you would looking for something that is not too competitive and that just does not really fit with the majority of the people that we play with. If you want to come feel free, I can give you directions and we play in the evenings.

We play every Tuesday night at 8p.m. Feel free to join. At Menzel Oberschule. I have already posted the directions a few times previously. So, maybe see you Tuesday then. I never play on Friday nights. Don't have time.

I found a group that plays regularly in Prenzlauer Berg. It's not competitive at all but it's a lot of fun. It also appears to be co-ed. The group plays Wednesdays and Fridays around 8.30 pm. I believe it's actually a formal club and i think if you go frequently there's some form of membership fee. So far nobody has asked me about it and I can't really invite anybody since i'm not part of the grop (I've only been twice) so this is really just FYI. The two times I went there was about 10-12 people and it's a pretty small court.

The gym belongs to a school at Schönhauser Allee 165 (U2-Senefelder Platz, across from the cemetery)

I'll probably go tonight to run off some turkey and maybe show up to the group that meets Tuesday's although that's a hard night for me to get away to play hoops.

I checked out the link. It says that they play Women, Mixed and Men. I would like to play at least once more per weeks. So if possible could you ask if it would be ok if another joined. Feel free to come on Tuesday nights. Also, we play Saturdays at noon in Moabit. If you need directions let me know.

Last Friday that very small gym was very crowded. I think 22 people showed up so it was a bit of a bust. I know that's not normal but I'm really not vested in that group to invite people but I think anyone can show up so feel free to play if you have time.

I'm hopefully gona check it out this Wed, too but not sure if I'll be around Friday night to play. I was going to try tomorrow but I have work commitment. Maybe next Tuesday.

When and where do you play Saturdays? I'm not in Beriln that many weekends but it's always good to have something to do if I am so thanks for the invite.

Hey Wrigleyville, you mentioned that you usually play on saturdays, would you mind if I showed up this saturday? I've been playing with some german guys but its a little awkward since they don't speak much english, I'd love to find some english speakers to play with.

I'd be up for playing this weekend, if other people are interested maybe we could pick a place to meet. I don't really know the gyms in berlin though.

Sorry, but Saturdays and Fridays are a no-go until further notice. They are both very full. However, I know that since we are in Berlin we could rent a hall very cheap weekly. If there would be at least ten people up for it we should do it. It's very common here and we could even pick a central location.

I'd be up for renting a place. I've been playing with some german guys once a week, I can see if any of them would be interested.

Bit of a grave-dig (hope that's preferred here to starting a new thread) but does anybody here need another player for their team? I've just arrived here from Australia a week ago and I'm casting around for some teams or places to play/practice. I'm 6'5 and play either forward and center, but if you need a point guard then you need someone else

I don't think anyone here really in organized leagues. We play a lot of pick up throughout Berlin. However, there is a 3v3 streetball league that me and a few other guys play in. It's starting again soon, if your interested let me know, or if you just want to come out and play pick up games.

Oh but just noticed that you live in Munich, so the commute would be a bitch.
