Having followed the sky coverage of the Uk political parties conferences, The LibDem conference was boring, the Labour party one is memorable but only because of all the bickering and they look like they are about to press the self destruct button...what next !

Thank heavens for the US. At least they have some interesting characters to follow - the sex mad ex-president campaigning for good causes, contrasting with the religious extremist war-mongering village idiot nut-job current president pushing the world back to the dark ages, many greedy senior politicians in the process of being tried for various money or dishonesty related crimes. More already doing time.
By comparison the UK is quite dull - OK there are some of Tony's cronies on their way to the slammer but the characters just aren't as interesting, and their crimes not quite as blatant. Death by boredom more likely.

well, even with all the bad press they have been having and the internal bickering they've been doing, the Tories only lead by about 5 points in the polls. Not exactly signs of an implosion. If they sort out the leadship issue there is plenty of time left before the next election to recover and win another term.

That is the crux of the matter. With Cherie allegedly having called Gordan Brown a liar, things seem to be turning personal - a battle of egos, with Tony not wanting to relinquish so easily and thus be destined to the annals of history, and Brown wanting Blair to keep his 'word' and longtime promise.

yet they only trail by 5 points in polls. You'd have thought they were 10-20 points down with all that has been happening.
Is it just me, or can anybody else picture Cherie bLIAR as Alf Garnett's granddaughter?

Well Blair just did his speech, still no "I will leave on...", not a bad speech but was very "so long and thanks for all the fish" type of speech, which will leave people bickering for the next 6 months

No, it will not implode. There will be difficulties particularly if Tony hangs on to the leadership, but the Labour Party has been there for over 100 years and it will be there for plenty of years to come notwithstanding media frenzies.
