i will work on that one HEM :-)

Hi all

I'm a 26 year old New Zealander, working as an engineer for a NZ company with a European office here in Hamburg. I've been in Hamburg six months, so not new, just been keeping a low profile. Thought it was about time I stopped snooping around and joined up properly!

My interests are hiking, skiing and generally being outdoors, music (love the live music scene here in Hamburg!), reading and flamenco dancing. Diverse, huh? I'd like to meet some people who would be interested in going to concerts - does Kaiser Chiefs at the Stadtpark in August appeal to anyone?
Trav
Well, a little less than two weeks before I arrive. Email addy for those wanting to catch up is travers@rmit.edu.au, and it looks like a few. Hey HEM notice you are a NF person smile.gif I had the pleasure of spending many weeks in Bargum and surrounds (Niebuell, etc). You never know, maybe I could see you while passing in that direction. I think I might be heading up for a few days again...

I will try my best to contact you all, maybe even advertise a meetup that people can try to attend. I think I will need to sellt myself for a few days before posting a date wink.gif

I'd love to see the Kaiser Chiefs, but it seems I will be in Germany when they are in Australia, and in Australia when they are in Gemany...ripped off I tell ya!! smile.gif

Not NF (although my parents-in-law are) - just SH: I'm only 26kms from Hamburg city centre in the NW direction close to the A23...
We do occasionally go up to Husum area (in-laws visiting, fish-eating). never actually been to Niebuell - just flew over it on way to Wyk auf Föhr (some years ago).

moin, moin

I have recently discovered Toytown and would like to introduce myself.

I am an American woman living with my German partner who I met while he was working at Duke University. I've been here for 10 years.

We lived in Hamburg in the too busy Hoheluftchaussee, but in 2001 we moved to the small community of Holm-Seppensen just outside of Buchholz. Living here is the opposite of Hamburg. We have one traffic light and one pedestrian light. It's QUIET, there is no TRAFFIC and parking is never a problem. I remember when my partner worked a half-hour away by car but it would take him 45 minutes to find a parking spot.

Other than shopping reasons and language (except those who spoke South Carolinian), I don't miss living in the states; I prefer living here. Oh yeah, there is the question of television, we have a satellite and except for the leaves on one bloody tree and rain, I watch UK television.

I'm glad I found this place. My partner works and I'm tired of talking to myself and the cat who ignores me.

I'm a 22 year old Australian girl moving to Hamburg at the end of the year :-)

I'm a Professional RMT & CMT back home but because I only speak Basic German am nto sure if I'd be able to work doing this in Germany (also haven't see many jobs of this kind advertised)

Am interested in finding a social circle in Hamburg as I'll be staying for at least 1 year but hopefully more visa permitting.

Cheers- Kat

What kinda music are you into..? Do you like clubbing at all? I'm after a few clubbing mates, ones that I don't work with, hehe! My social circle is good but at the moment it's based almost entirely round work - I live, work, eat and party with the same people day in day out, they're great but I'm one of these people that likes to have lots of different groups of mates, and flit about a bit...

Hello Everyone!!!
I'm so glad I came across this site! It looks amazing and will hopefully help me out a lot!
I'm an Australian who visited Hamburg a few weeks ago and immediately feel in love with the city! So I have decided to take up an au pair job and move over there in September!!!
I still can't quite believe I am doing it but I am soooo excited about it, I just can't wait to get there!!!
I arrive about mid-September and was hoping to meet up with some English speakers, just to settle me into the place and so I won't be a total loner when I get there!!
Is anyone interested in meeting up for Expat Drinkies on the weekend of the 21st, 22nd September?

Hooray! Hamburg here I come!!!
MickeyW
To Kittles, Kat the 22 year old Australian Girl...

Hi everybody. I am sad to say that I have been living in the Hamburg area (Ahrensburg) for close to 8 years and I have never even heard of this forum before. To be honest, I have also not really made any big effort to find this or similar forums.
I have browsed around a bit on this forum and checked out a few profiles... me likes! I am a semi-regular at Finnegan's Wake and even though I knew about it, I have never bothered to join the pub quiz before. I will certainly try to join at some point...

Holy crap, you're from Namibia and native speaker of Afrikaans?
Not that I'm either, just a huge fan of all things from Southern Africa.
Would like to meet up sometime. Hope you can make it to one of the things we set up.
cheers,
Ian

Hi... I am new at TT, but not in Germany, will be here two years at the end of July ! I am South African and would like to meet up with other South African Moms (actually anyone who speaks English) with little children. My son is 10 months old. I already meet weekly with a few women and their babies, but they are all German, and I would like my son to have some contact with English (or Afrikaans) speaking families as well. I live in a little Villiage called Nahe (23866), but do have transport so I am not completely stuck here ! Looking forward to hearing from someone soon !

I´ve have been living in Hamburg for 7 years, came for work, stayed for love. Love didn´t woork out boo hoo.. Anyway I´m still here working as a performer and Hamburgs´ cool. What I miss about Britain is the humour man! I´m not a beer person but I love me some vodka and cocktails and socialising with the beer lot. I love music from Hardrock to pop to hiphop (no gangta shit though). I´m just looking for the good ol Britisch quick wit and pub culture here in Hamburg.
See ya Marion
p.s I´m 32 with no kids(It has to be with the right one. Know what I mean)

Hello Mat, Hello All,
I also recently moved to Hamburg.
I am here from the States working at the B&V shipyard on a 2 (possibly 3) year project.

Although I have been here since May, I have been putting in 18 hour days, six days a week so I haven't had much (if any) of a social life.
Now that I am over the big hump at work, I am looking to get out and meet people.
Unfortunately my German is almost non-existant. I'm still looking in to getting into a German language class

All that being said, I am open to meeting people to talk, drink beer or watch football. I live in St. Pauli so it's hard not to get caught up.

Would love to hear from some English speakers about events and or get togethers in the Hamburg area.
Thanks
Sergio

Which kind of football, American or Europe.. As American football is on the way (or here for ncaa) certainly looking for some people to catch some games with.

Hi everyone,
Though I've met a few people of this forum already (it was great fun!) I haven't introduced myself in this section yet. I am relatively new to this forum, have been living in Hamburg for about 1,5 y and am looking for a way to meet international people again. Though my nationality is German, most of my relatives are from other countries and I've lived in different countries the last years. Well, I'd like to meet lots more good people and am very much looking forward to our next get-together.
Best, Steve
Kittles
Hey Jarek- Jett lag meet up sounds cool- just depends on what the guys I'm crashing with are doing as it's been ages since I've seen my mates and they may have other plans(didn't think of that.) - but being that they are english lads I'm sure it'll be easy enough to twist their arms in coming down for a pint or two- Where do you reckon you'll go out drinking? what area as that way I can ask my mates are they keen biggrin.gif
Sami
...Jarek wasting no time there once the photo is deployed... laugh.gif

Hi,

I'm a 19 year old American and living in Hamburg-Altona with my German girlfriend. I came over here to be with her and now being with her all the time is driving me crazy! My German isn't so great but I'm in a Sprachkurs and getting better. I need to meet some other people in the area to keep my sanity! Anyway, I'd love to buy anyone a coffee or a beer for some good English conversation.

Hope to hear from you, Andy
Sami
yeah man sure, I'll do my best to keep you sane if necessary. Kinda tied up this week but should be able to spare some time at the weekend...

Hey Andy, same here. we can meet up. got some time sunday late afternoon or nx week. Sami and I already met, we can also hang out all together. steve

Hi all,

I am neither new to Hamburg nor to Germany - but I am to this forum. I feel like a traitor being here because I actually am German, but I have spent the last 10 years or so living abroad in international environments and with Yorkshire boyfriends... and now I've moved back here I miss that life. I miss humour, BBC, yummy cheeses, pubquizzes, public footpaths, cups of tea all the time (putting the kettle on myself just isn't the same), theme parties and sunday papers... so maybe being here helps??

What I don't miss is living in a bubble, as expats tend to. I get the impression though that this is not so much the case here (in Hamburg / Germany), or am I wrong? Maybe natives can't penetrate the bubble? Anyway, nice to meet you all!

Hello all,

I've not much time to scan through this forum as I've 2 children sleeping (yes really, at the same time!!) upstairs at the moment. I'm a SAHM of a 8 month old and a2 1/2 year old and live in Wedel. Would love to meet other mothers in the area, so if you're at home too... get in touch smile.gif

piggynluk@yahoo.co.uk

oh yes, a bit about me.. I"m 28 years old, Irish but lived in Holland the last 6 years.. and in Germany since July. If you want to know more just get in touch, not going to waste precious tea and chocolate time typing up my life story if no one is going to read it wink.gif

Hi Brenda!

I'm also SAHM with 4 and 2 y.o. living in Blankenese. Would like to meet up since I don't really know many moms here. Both of my kids go to kindergarden/preschool so if you want to meet with kids afternoon would be the best. Let me know if you are interested.

HalloH!

Im only writing because Im new to this forum and would like to introduce myself. Im actually not and English native so Im not sure if I even qualify to be here. Ive lived in English Speaking countries before and my level is sort of advanced. But Im originally from Madrid, Spain. Im in Germany courtesy of my girlfriend Anna who has let me have her flat here in Hamburg while she is away until January in the British Aisles. I work freelance in Media, mainly editing and camera work, production and so on. Im now trying to find a job here in Germany, but so far Ive failed to meet the criteria... In the meantime I would like to meet people as well, go out...

Im also interested in perhaps teaching Spanish, or doing the old tandem Spanish-German-English-French-Italian. If you know of groups of people who are into learning other languages I would be very interested in meeting them.

I also Dj and have brought my vinylgear over to Hamburg so if you need a Dj, please let me know...

Cheers!, Ramon

Hi to all yawl!
Im new to Hamburg and this. I've been here since the begining of July and Ive start working/training at a shipping company. Have met some nice peeps through work and whatnot, but when i happened upon this website I thought it would be fun to meet other Amuricans or English speakers. So I am 24 and from Houston. I enjoy pretty much all sports, and having a good time. Usually up to hang out and maybe imbibe a few spirits! Hope to hear.Best Regards

Hey Ramon... what style of music do you DJ? I play Breaks/House/Techno - mostly off CD at the moment because of the hassle of carting all my equipment over here from London, but I'm going back next week for a couple of gigs and to see my mother, so I'll be bringing a bag of wax back over with me (I hope Ryanair will let me take a normal-sized record bag in the cabin with me as hand luggage... does anyone have any experience with this?) so maybe we could meet up and knock out a few beats. I'm also thinking of starting a new night at the club where I work, so maybe if it goes well there might be some gigs in it for you...

hi, found the forum over google by chance, searching for some passport telephone numbers for Düsseldorf.
not new to germany or hamburg... but wanted to say HELLO...
grew up in fleetwood near blackpool. moved to germany in 1992 straight after uni for work, thinking i would stay for a few years, earn lots of money and go back to the ÜK... well... still here. talk fluent german and sorry to say it: english with a german accent, but i´ve lost my northern accent in the process smile.gif
spent a few years in Konstanz, Aalen(Near Ulm) and Wolfsburg before moving to Hamburg.
living in HH-Neugraben, near Ehestorf. (south side of the Elbe). jobwise: freelanced in the design and multimedia scene for a long time. In 2005 made my hobby my job. german wife and a baby girl(5 months). thats worth more than earning any amount of money :-)
basically happy and setteled in hamburg. usually dont mix with many english x-pats. experience tells me: most(but not all) just talk about how shit germany is, or when they are returning to the UK. The english/american freinds i have across germany are people which have decided to stay. make a living and family.

looking forward to a decent meet up in hamburg, restaurant or someting like that...
