Take no notice of him, he's a shark, he'll take your money, tell you he'll be back in a minute with the tickets and that's the last you'll see of him. I however will provide you with tickets on the spot, they are however a little more expensive, tickets are hard to come by, so mine will cost €100 for two.

Ivan H, ignore those two above... they are taking you for a ride.
You don't need tickets to get into Oktoberfest itself or any of the beer tents.
I guess you need tickets to ride the carnival rides, but you buy those on the spot.
Don't let anyone take you for a ride! Oktoberfest itself is FREE entrance, just show up nice and early in order to get into a tent and find seats, especially on the weekends.
Hope you have a great time.
@coolerking and allershausen... shame on you!

Oh you spoil all the fun, this thread could have gone on for hours. Did you not notice that he claimed only one of them was an Oktoberfest virgin, which suggests he's been sold tickets before! Spoilsport!

And you have to admit I was telling the truth, tickets are hard to come by!

Well, I think people are using the term tickets for table reservations. I mentioned that I have tickets on one of the saturdays and my boss was like 'What?' I had to explain, its the reservation and vouchers.
But on a thursday night, I really don't think it will be a problem to get a spot for 2 people.

I said he could sit on my lap... not get a lapdance or something!! What's wrong with that, anyways?
Exactly, Panama- depends on how long you get to sit. For 50 Euros you can sit on my lap until one of two things happens-- either a ) I finish a Maß or b ) I have to get up to use the toilets.
Sorry, Dave. You got the "special" buy-10-get-one-free deal. Do the math.

Nevermind.
Edit: Dave. Must we tell everyone everthing we know? Some things are meant to remain secret.

I know that you don't NEED reservations to get into the beer tents, but I'd prefer to have one.
We don't get back into Munich 'till Friday afternoon from Switzerland, so arriving early isn't an option.
I have secured seats for Saturday, just wondering if I could buy a few beers for anyone who has a few extra seats at their table on Friday 22nd September 2006.
This is our first trip to Europe/Germany/Oktoberfest
PS there are three of us...not all men!

Yes, and you can avoid most of the tourists! I absolutely refuse to go on weekends anymore (unless, of course, I have a reservation)

Most definitely do NOT try e-bay. The tent owners are united in refusing entrance to anyone who has bought over-priced vouchers on e-bay, I have discussed the issue with various tents prior to making reservations for clients. Their General Regulations expressly forbid resale of vouchers unless at face value, which is what I did, charging a modest fee for my efforts.
If the tent suspects that you have bought your vouchers on e-bay at more than face value the vouchers become invalid and you have no right to the reserved table (e.g. you live in Munich and the guy who reserved the table and bought the vouchers is a private customer in Bremerhaven, Austria or Kathmandu). The tents surf the net and read the classifieds avidly for any such offers and crack down on the illegal dealers.
And a word to the wise: You do not buy any rights to the table, the table is provided by the tent for free and cannot be sold or auctioned off.
Sorry, but do you really think the tent owners have time to surf ebay and then try and figure out which auction belongs to which table? Give your head a shake, the only thing the tent owners are united in is their desire to make a killing.

In any case I think buying "tickets" in ebay is not a good decision. Just go there and you will somehow manage to get in. You are only two as far as I remember, it won't be so difficult.

Actually there are three of us, but I have been just trying to avoid any problems with my 1st Oktoberfest.
As for ebay or any other outlet, I don't see the big deal. I could have made reservations a year ago, but I didn't know I was going. Therefore, I'm willing to pay a premium for the convenience of securing a reservation. If someone decides to include us or sell us their reservation, that should be between the two of us.
I really don't think the tent owners would care, hell if I could slip them a few extra bucks (which I'm sure happens) I might get a table.
I know, I know...most of you just say to go and find a table. I just like the idea of having a place to sit my beer.

there are only 3 of you, so you're unlikely to get ant tickets offered to you (10 minimum is the usual). wander, take in the wonder and then you'll find them. patience mixed carefully with determination is the key.

Whatever.
Hot tip for empty tables is the
Ammer tent, they always keep a certain contingent. You may have to wait in line for half an hour or so but it's worth it (Augustiner beer and excellent chicken).

Hi
To cut a long story short... myself and nine colleagues from Ireland had a table reserved (verbal agreement with somebdy local) at the Lowenbrau for Sat evening 30th Sept. We booked it months ago but our table has now been given to a corporate group that obviously had a better in than us guys. Our friend is disappointed and feels bad about this but we understand that it was not her fault and appreciate her efforts.
As a result we now find ourselves pretty much in limbo and collectively agree that we need to be at the Weis'n for about 10am on sat morning which isn't ideal for lots of reasons.
I am looking to see if anyone has any suggestions for us and if anybody knows of any pending cancellations we could avail of. We don't want to shell out serious money on eBay as the trip was pricey enough. We also really don't want to do the 10am start as we will be out on the Thurs night and friday and frankly enough damage will be done to our livers at that stage.
Any guidance would be much appreciated

I've got 6 lads arriving from across the pond on Friday. Now, normally I would laugh at them (especially since I will be busy the whole weekend with the Hash House Harriers - how's that for "Schleichwerbung"?) but the best roommate I ever had, and one of the coolest people I've ever known (no-she is not on Toytown) personally asked me for tips.
Turns out it is her boss.
Even worse, she said he is 8 years her (our) junior, but one of the most "with it" people she has ever met.
So besides the 8 am at the tent recommendation, I'll be looking for tips as well.

Aye - it's sounding pretty impossible. But you won't get if you don't ask.
Good luck to ye. Add on 6 more if you can, I bet they'd supply you with beer.

I hope you and your mates find something, but a whole table on the last Saturday is utopian. If the weather is nice you can always spill over into the garden. (Somehow that sounds very wrong but I can't be bothered to change it.)

as elfenstar has rightly pointed out, you'll all have to be up brighter and earlier to ensure a seat on a saturday. if your in munich on thursday and friday, would suggest you do the wies'n on those days. saturday tends to be full of school kids sharing a beer between 12 people and franticly sending their friends outside sms messages about how cool it is inside. you still want to be hitting the place earlier though. suggest you get a good nights kip on the evening before, save yourselves for the next day. 16 pints of o'juice is wicked on you.

Could some of the old hands let us know what the low down on the outside seating is? I tried it in 2004 when it lashed rain all afternoon and I'm not sure if this would be the typical experience. Is the service any good? Can you get a reasonable amount of seats together? What is the crowd/vibe like?etc...I'd appreciate any feedback as it looks like I might be joining Mon4 and his crew on the outside

I prefer the outside, but I'm claustrophobic. Generally, it's more lay-back, you can understand each other talking without the music blaring out at you, seats are just as hard to get but are more likely to be vacated sooner if it's to nippy to sit still for long.

Less dancing on the benches, but probably better opportunities to chat up your table neighbours.

As long as it isn't raining it's pretty good outside, they have heaters that they turn on in the evening so it stays very comfy.

Thanks for the info, it certainly gives us more options when the outside seating comes into play and it seems to have it's own attractions. For what its worth, coming from Ireland, it's rather strange to be indoors where smoking is permitted. The outdoor benches will certainly feel more accommodating in that regard. That's not to say I'd pass up a good day in the Tents, for sure that is what this gig is all about.
On another subject, lets say we give up on the saturday and concentrate on getting in somewhere on the Friday. How early do we need to be there to get into, say, Hacker or Braurosl?

Some places are reserved for later. So if you get a table at 4, at 6 you could get kicked off. I forget if the reserved tables always have a label saying so but I think they normally do.
Showem
Sep 21 2006, 9:29 am
Yes, the tables always say if they are reserved or not. Unless some wanker has ripped off the reservation label, which doesn't stop the waitress and security from booting you off at 5pm when the actual reserved people show up. Don't bother.
Best to go between 12-2 in the afternoon on Friday, find a table that doesn't have a reservation for later in the evening, settle in and enjoy the afternoon to evening.

We were at the Hofbrau yesterday too. It stayed relatively quiet the whole night (I thought). The band is good enough, but the singer just could not sing. Good thing someone realized that quickly and pretty much turned her microphone down. But, I noticed that it was one rowdy song followed by one more mellow song. So, things never really got out of control the whole night.
Having said that, I will never go back to the Hofbrau - way too many tourists, not enough men in
lederhosen.

The tents surf the net and read the classifieds avidly for any such offers and crack down on the illegal dealers.
The
Schottenhamel tent has reported a
ring of four dealers/false bidders to the District Attorney who is now investigating for fraud and assistance to fraud.
One member of the gang, located in
Paderborn, reserved "at least five" tables at the Schottenhamel and more tables in other tents under various alias identities and offered them on E-Bay. Reservations for Sundays were sold for €150, for Fridays or Saturdays for up to €670 - for the table only, the vouchers had to be purchased separatetly. If offers were slow in coming, the other members of the gang, located in
Kitzingen and
Ottobrunn, would bid, or the purchaser would buy his own tickets under an alternative E-Bay identity and then re-offer them.
Any reservations made by this person have been cancelled, so the people who bought the table and vouchers were/will be turned back at the door without a chance of legal redress towards Schottenhamel.
Schottenhamel provided the DA with documentation of the bidding, quoting the seller's offer of "reservation for ten people in the Festhalle Schottenhamel where the atmosphere is the best to be had", along with the information that "the auction price is for the reservation only, in addition you must purchase two beer and one chicken voucher per person".
Christian Schottenhamel, owner and manager of the Schottenhamel tent, has again stressed the fact that there is no charge for table reservations but that when reserving a table you are required to purchase the beer and meal vouchers. He also mentioned that at least one other person is suspected of illegal deals with table reservations in his tent.
Caveat emptor!

Hi Folks
I have a table for 10 booked at Hippodrom on Saturday 6th Oct (11:30-15:30) and for Hofbrau Sunday 7th Oct (12:00-17:00). There are actually only 8 of us going- 2 people have dropped out- so I am looking for a couple of new freinds to join us! We are 3 males, 5 females, in late 20's early 30's. We are all english speakers, but 2 of us are Polish. 4 of the girls are singletons, so might suit someone looking for more than just a seat at the Oktoberfest! ;-)
The "seats" include food and beer vouchers both days; Hippodrom is a set menu, but Hofbrau is a bit more flexible to order what you like. The 2 spare places have in theory been paid for- I am looking at trying to reduce the losses of the two folk who can't make it now- and of course it's more fun with a full table! So I might be open to offers less than the price I paid.
So if you want to make some new freinds and experience the full majesty of the Oktoberfest, possibly at a knock down price, then PM me and we can discuss. I'll be "in country"" from Thursday afternoon, but checking the webmail up until Friday evening.
