Hi Hilary,
German toddler groups can be easy accesible if you join playgroups organised by the Nachtbarschaftshilfe, which exists in most villages around Munich I think. It is organised by volunteers and I think sponsored by the municipality as it is very cheap to participate.
We moved out of town for the same reasons you mention. We live in
Oberschleissheim and I can really recommend this place - nice castle, small lake, small forest.
We have heard positives things about
Unterschleissheim and Dachau as well. Just in case you are still looking for nice places north of Munich.
Good luck with all the preparations !

Hi Astrid
Thanks for your replies, my husband's office is actually in
Unterschleissheim, but we are looking a bit further out than that, to get a bit more space for the money we'll have available - sounds like a nice place to bring the children to explore a bit from time to time though!
Thanks for the info about how the playgroups work, that's a relief as I thought it might take quite a long time to "infiltrate" a group, if I needed to first meet a friendly mum and then be introduced!
Perhaps those of us who are newer to the board and/ or some of those of us with older toddlers should form a separate mums and tots group as you suggest, as for those of us who have children over 1 or so, friends of a vaguely similar age for our toddlers, and places they can play together safely and without bothering the general public, are likely to be as important as having other mums to chat to!
If we find the type of house we want people will be welcome to come to us - we aim to have plenty of space, but know the price we'll pay for the space is being further outside Munich, so it depends how people would feel about traveling a little bit! Anyway - more on that once we've actually moved!

Hi everyone
Just wanted to check in with those interested in forming a second mums and mums to be group, to see whether this has happened yet?
We'll be in Germany in 4 weeks time! We have a lovely house organized just outside Reichertshausen, which is 37km north of Munich, but not too far from tram and train so I'll be up for coming into the center and/ or to one of the areas slightly north of Munich, like
Unterschleissheim, with my daughter if anyone has started or is interested in starting another group. Later on, once we know each other, people would be welcome to come to us from time to time if they could manage the journey (I realize it may well be too far out for many people though) - there is even a playground right next door to our house, and the advantage of being further out is we'll have space for a playroom for the toddlers too!
Hope some people are still interested? Look forward to hopefully meeting some of you soon!
Hilary (and Anna 19 months and "bump" 18 weeks)

Hi Everyone,
Is there a second mums and mums to be group? I would definitely be interested in joining as well. If not we can start one. I am also new to Munich and live in direction Liam. I am about 20 minutes from the center with public transport. I believe its West but don't quote me on that. My son is 9 months old and he is really interested in seeing other kids. I don't mind meeting someplace or even having it at my house, we are pretty settled in.

Hi all,
I am expecting our first child the end of july and am looking for a group of mums to be or with small babies. Although I am german (born and raised in Munich), my husband is from England and we would like to bring up our child with as much british influence as possible. Our hope is that our baby boy will be equally at home with cultures. The bavarian heritage part will be much easier as my entire family lives here. Would be great if I could join a group of english speaking mums or dads or both.

Hi Everyone,
I am also new to Munich and am pregnant with our first baby (12 weeks). I would love to meet other pregnant women or moms of young children. If you'd be interested in getting together, please let me know! I am available most days, but in June I will be taking intensive German every morning, so afternoons would work better.

we moved to munich two weeks ago from boulder, colorado. i have a 20 month old son who really misses his playgroups. today on the playground, he tried to hug a few kids that arrived with a preschool...
the other mom's group thread looks really fantastic, but rider sleeps from 1-3:00 most days and a 2:30 time wouldn't really work for us. is anyone interested in meeting up for a coffee or playground date in the mornings or late afternoons?
we are currently living in maxvorstadt, but i can figure out the u and come to other neighborhoods!
