Hello Ladies,

I have lived in Munich for 1 year, and all the people who i met when i first came here have mostly left, although some are still here its very hard for us to maintain the same kind of social life as i am 7 months pregnant, and as im only 22, my friends are still out doing the party thing, and as much as i would love to join them..well i dont think i'd be a very good mother but thats for another topic biggrin.gif so anyway i would love to meet some other expectant or recently new mums, or even just people, whose interests dont stop at getting drunk.

Hi there!

I'm new to Toytown (although I've lived near Munich for 6 1/2 years) and most of my mates have moved on to other countries.
I'm pregnant with my first child - due on 5th July - and would love to meet up and have a chit-chat.

Look forward to finally meeting some Mums-to-be!
Let me know who wants to meet up, when and where.

Hi Sarah,

This message is especialy for you as we both live in Oberschleissheim. But the other mums or mums to be are welcome as well of course. I am an experienced (haha before Matthews birth I hardly knew anything about babies) mum of 8,5 months old Matthew so if you like to meet somewhere in Oberschleissheim just let me know. Looking forward to your reply.

Kind regards,
Astrid

Hi guys!

I have a 7 months old daughter and would also welcome the opportunity to meet some mums to be and recent mums! :-)) I live in Unterhaching but we could perhaps pick a place somewhere at Marienplatz? (Would be a good compromise for all of us). How about on the 21 february at 11:00am ?
Assie
Hi seashell,

I like your idea of picking a date and organising a meeting very much ! Only... I have another appointment on wensday. What about a meeting on thursday ? And what about an hour earlier, as 11.00am is so close to baby lunchtime and sleeping time ?

Astrid
seashell2007
Hi Astrid,

Nice to hear from you! Thursday (22.02) at 10:00am would be fine with me. Any suggestions where to meet?
Assie
Hi Seashell,

Great !
Shall we meet on Marienplatz in front of the main entrance of Kaufhof ? And than mabey depending on the weather go for a short walk in the English garden or have a cup of coffee in a non smoking place ?
Look forward to see you and your daughter.

Astrid
Assie
Hi Seashell,

Mabey it is a good idea if you send me your personal details (telephone number - in case we have to cancel our meeting (you never know with babies...), and how I can regocnise you) to my private e-mail: astridsteve@yahoo.co.uk

Are there any other ladies joining us ?
jesh
Hi guys I would like to be in the metting as well. I have a 4months old daughter and would love to meet up with other mums. Keep me updated.
Jesh
Assie
Hi Jesh,

Nice to hear from you. I have not heard from Sheashell anymore, but I expect she will be on Marienplatz tommorrow morning. So would be great if you join us !
As you can read above we will meet on Marienplatz at 10.00 am at the main entrance of Kaufhof.
See you there ?

Astrid
CapeBretoner
Hmmm...may join you as well, depending upon an app´t. (I have a 2.5 month old, have been in Munich since end Aug.)

Gorgeous weather for an outdoor café or walk in the park.

Cheers, Corrie
Assie
Hi all,

Sounds as if it is going to be busy tommorrow with prams and stuff in front of the main entrance of Kaufhof.
Great ! Looking forward to meet you all.

More happy mums who want to join at the last minute ?

Astrid

Hi All,

I'd love to join you tommorrow but my little boy (6 months) is under the weather this week. It'd be great if you could let me know the next time you meet up. I don't know any other English speaking mums.

Enjoy tomorrow,

Deirdre

It was really nice to see you all today and look forward to next weeks meetup. My daughters jab were actually not that traumatising on either of us which was nice. I was given a World health Organization card for her jabs Ie the International certificates of vaccination card, yellow(very) with the WHO logo on the front. Is it the normal vaccination card they give in germany? Only it seems abit much. Unlike the Red Book you get in UK (For those farmiliar with it) forgive me if it is a stupid question. Oh where do they record the weight??? unsure.gif
boomtown_rat
why would you need to display weight in a list of innoculations?

yes the yellow thingy is pretty standard here in my experience
jesh
Oh boomtown rat, I just thought normally children babies get weighed when the get vaccinated, sort of a clinic? This looks like a travellers innoculations card as you say as opposed to a clinic card.
boomtown_rat
ok, yeah, sorry don't know if there should be a special one for kids I'm afraid
Assie
Hi Jesh,

Happy for you and your daughter that it went all ok. I will look up the books I have got from our doctor. We do have a yellow booklet as well but if it is with logo and stuff...? Will be continued.

Hi Deirdre,

Nice to hear from you.
Hope your son is feeling better now. Shame that you could not come along today. We had a very nice meeting. We had a nice cup of coffee on a terrace and than we went for a short walk trough the English garden.
Next friday (2nd of march) we will meet again, so you will be more than welcome to join us !!! We will meet again at 10am in front of Kaufhof's main entrance on Marienplatz.
So hopefully we will meet next friday. Bey for now and all the best for your little son.

Dont even mention the eggs ph34r.gif
CapeBretoner
Hi Jesh,
Yes, the yellow immunization record is for life and is separate from the yellow Kinderpass where the practice notes the baby´s weight, etc.

And to the rest, so good to meet you all! Look forward to meeting again. It´s so reassuring to meet with other mums going through the same trials and tribulations. And any and all tips are always welcome. Had a big smile on my face the whole way home from our meeting...
CapeBretoner
For recent mums who understand a little German; babynews.de is a wonderful resource. I just read that there are certain films for baby and mommy at the Deutschmuseuem! I am so thrilled since this is a standard way to get out with baby in Canada. And no one complains in the theatre about your child crying...
jesh
hi cape..., I'll come if you fancy spending the whole 2 hours as an interp
reter. Did I mention no pay as well..lol Anyway have fun. Ps could you please the kinder pass next friday so that I can have a look at it?? Cheers
DeirdreK
Hi All,

I'll see you Friday. Astrid, thanks for keeping me up to date.

All the best,

Deirdre
Assie
Hi Deidre,

Good to hear from you and good that you can join us.
See you on friday !

Astrid
seashell2007
Hi recent mums!
Was so great to meet all of you last Thursday! I also had a big smile on my face the way home from our meeting...:-)))
But unfortunately I won't be able to join you this Friday and the next because I will be in Düsseldorf accompanying my husband to an "Arbeitsmedizin" course.

Have a great time on Friday and I really look forward seeing you all at our next meeting!

Emma

Ps: Cape, babynews.de is super informative. Thanks for the great tip!
Assie
Hi Emma,

Enjoy Düsseldorf and we will inform you when our next meeting will be on.

See you !

Astrid

Hi all
Have a almost one year old, and would like to meet other moms. Is the meeting tomorrow still open?
Assie
Hi Chenaz,

There are no changes in tomorrows meeting so join the club !
We will meet in front of Kaufhofs main entrance on Marienplatz at 10.00 am. After that we go for a coffee in a non-smoking place or outside terrace if the weather is nice.
So see you tomorrow !

Astrid
DeirdreK
Hi guys,

I won't be able to make it tommorrow. Wednesdays and Thursdays aren't good for me. I'd love to be able to join you regularly so if possible it would be great if you could arrange to meet any other day.

Have fun tomorrow.

Hope to see you soon again,

Deirdre
Assie
Hi Deirdre,

Shame that we won't see you tomorrow. To be honest wensdays and thursdays are not good for me either. Tomorrow I canceled another activity, so we will try to find a better day.

We will inform you about next weeks meeting.

Hi guys (gals),

Just joined Toytown and am eagerly looking to meet with other English speaking familes/mums. I have 22 month old twins, a girl and a boy. Does anyone have kids around the same age? It seems you have organised some meetings already, think I could join in?
ashiroff
Hi!

I am also new to Toytown (and Munich) and am looking to perhaps join your mother/family group if there is room for one more! I am currently 9 months pregnant – so just a few weeks away from motherhood. Are you primarily a toddler group? Would a newborn be too young?

Hi Everyone

We haven't moved to Germany yet, but are certainly on the way! My husband is being transfered to Munich via work, and we think we'll be moving in June - just wanted to say hello, as I have a nearly 19 month old daughter (not too much younger than your 2 Mrinalini) and am 15 weeks pregnant. We're aiming to live a bit outside Munich in a smaller town, but I'd love to have people to meet up with every now and then as my German needs a lot of work at the moment, and I'm concerned about not knowing anyone - I can't see myself starting evening language classes until the new baby is 6 month old or so... My daughter will also be desperate for playmates, as she has a lot of toddler friends at the moment, and I'm already feeling a little guilty about dragging her away from them!

I will follow this thread until I move, and then I hope you will let me join you, especially if there are toddlers as well as preg ladies and newborns!

Hilary
Showem
Hilary, this is off-topic, but anyways. I would suggest you try and get a private tutor to come to your house. I'm sure you can find someone flexible enough to deal with little ones underfoot. The sooner you start learning German, the better. Especially as you will have several weeks before the 2nd one turns up to get a headstart on things. Otherwise it will be near on a year before you start learning! Once you know a bit of German, you'll be able to go to coffee mornings with other German mums and start communicating, which will again improve your German. I understand your worry of feeling isolated, and do meet up with other expats, but you'll get lots more out of your stay if you learn to talk to the locals. Speaking German will help you get to know people and help with the isolation.
Mrinalini
Hi Hilary,

Do you have any idea where abouts you would be staying? We live in the south of the city in a place called Obersendling-it's close to the zoo. I would be happy to help you with info or other things. I do also speak German since I work here. Let me know if I can help.
As far as the mothers'-meet-up goes, I don't seem to be getting any information on that front. It may just be you and me to start with :-)!
cakerr
Hi to all you moms and moms-to-be out there. If it is of any interest or help to you, I've met loads of women (moms, non-moms and grandmoms!) through the International Women's Club. They have a proper meeting once a month (with child care, yeah!) as well as an active mother's group (weekly play groups, one-offs meetings, etc.). Definate life-line when you could just use a good chat in English, or need someone who has "been there, done that". Website is: http://www.internationalwomensclub.org

I try to make it to most of the meetings, so if you're not into going on your own, PM me and maybe we could go together, or meet up right before the meeting. I have a 13-month-old daughter, so holler if you're headed to a playground in the city center

Good luck to all...
hilaryg
Hi Mrinalini and Cakerr

Mrinalini we'll probably be living just a bit outside Munich, to the north (unfortunately the opposite to you!) My husband's office will be on the north side of Munich, and we want to live a bit further out so that we can afford a house instead of an apartment in the centre - we're looking at small towns 30 mins drive or so for my husband to get to work. I guess we'll just have to meet in the center!

Cakerr thanks for the information about the International Women's Group, it sounds ideal, I'll look at their website in a moment! I'll be looking for weekly toddlers groups nearer our future home - German speaking I assume, further out, but that's all good, I just want a mix of and to have some English speaking contacts/ groups too! I'm also not sure how easy it will be to get access to German toddlers groups - I've heard they usually meet in people's homes rather than being public, advertised ones in church halls or whatever - do you know if that's the case?

Thanks for the replies, look forward to maybe meeting you both in a couple of months, once we've moved!

Hilary
Assie
Hello Mrinalini, Arlene and Hilary,

Sorry for not giving you a reply much quicker but we have only seen your messages last week. We form a group of 7 mums and 7 babies. In the beginning we met in the town centre which was not very succesfull as the older babies simply did not want to sit on our laps for a longer time. Now we have weekly meetings at each others houses which is much more relaxed. More people are welcome to join in apart from the meetings at our own homes as it simply gets too crowded. Sorry !!! So maybe you could form your own group for regular meetings and we can organise get togethers on more special occassions (like girls nights out, picnics in a town parc etc. etc.). We will let you know if anything like this takes place.
