Yay, we are 27 people so far! Thats nearly 3 tables of fun!

Sep 14 2006, 5:26 pm
Renia I wouldn't count on:
a ) everyone turning up early enough to reserve enough tables
b ) being able to actually hold on to three tables for the duration
c ) the latercomers actually being able to get in to join us.
I think getting half that number together in one place on neighbouring tables will be a hard enough task.

Ok fair enough, hopefully we can get two tables though...

I reckon we'll manage to secure three tables if most people turn up at 7:45/8:00am and so long anyone who isn't there when the tent opens turn up not too late.
In any case, this looks like its going to be a good event. 29 people signed up now so we should have between 30 and 40 people I reckon.
I'll be there bright and early so if anyone wants my mobile number in case you get lost or what to know what is going on just PM.
I'll be there early to help grab some tables. Hopefully it won't be like the last time we tried to get into the Hacker, although that was in Italian weekend I guess.

Sep 16 2006, 1:15 pm
Just a warning, from previous experience you will need to have about half of the table full to be able to reserve it. There are people working there who make sure people are not reserving more tables than they need.
Around 10 -11:00 you will need to have the tables almost full otherwise you will lose them.
I should be there early but am out of drinking practise so will need to pace myself.

Hopefully enough of us will turn up early so this won't be a problem. Who is definetly going to be there at 7.45 without fail?

They don't have it there on purpose so people with reservations have to contact the staff and be guided to their table. This prevents them from being inside the tent on time for the reservation but wandering helplessly and by the time they've found their table it's too late and they get thrown out. It has happened

Most tents have the reservations of the day and the respective box/table listed near one of the doors. Finding that specific door may lead to wandering helplessly however.

went today, extremely early, but we did get a table, they closed the door at about 11am, and only thru the back door could our others get into the tent. Huge line ups at the ladies toilets. We kept getting asked from others if they could sit in our few free seats (the others went for a walk). We ended up being a group of 14 at our table.
It was a mad rush at 9:30 when they finally did open the door at the Paulaner Tent. But the waitress was super friendly.

So I'm just back from the Hacker tent. I'm making this post basically for historical reference so other people know what the go is.
We arrived at 7:30, and were almost the first people there. We stood around until 8:30am watching the place fill up a little (outside not inside), but not so much. About 5/10 mins after that someone inside gave us the nod that we should go to the side doors, and not stay at the front. We we went around and true enough about 5 minutes later, just before 9 they let us in (however they kept the front doors locked). Luckily becauase of a message from Editor Bob we already had people stationed at entrance N1 and we got 5 excellently placed tables.
In the end though this was not necessary because up until about 10am you could get a table anyway. It wasn't until about midday that every table was filled and people were trying to steal your seats.
As for the Hacker tent in general, my opinion is that is this tent is pretty crap. I thought this tent was known as a lively and young type of tent, however I would say its the exact opposite. The band got on at midday, which I didn't really have a problem with. However until 4:30 at least, they played consistently traditional brass band type music. I have no problem with the traditional music, however the crowd seemly distinctly bored. I have heard at 6pm they get a rock band on, so maybe it picks up but seriously, you need a mix. We never heard any great oktoberfest songs like Viva Colonia, Hey Jude, Hölle Hölla, Sierra Madra or Take me home country road even once. In fact, the only song I recognised was the Prost song. Even the 54, 70.. etc world cup song which in other tents seems to be this years song, was not played at all. Very disappointing on the band front.
Last year we were in the Armbrustschützenzelt and Schottenhammel and it was way better. Throughout the day they played hits that really got the crowd going. In fact, yesterday I was outside the Hofbräu and they were playing great music and the crowd was loving it. The Hacker this year truly sucked in my opinion. Not enough music, and when they were playing music, they were not playing enough good music.
Maybe we'll have report from people after me that say the opposite cause the band changes at 6, but really, I think we would have been better picking another tent.
Still, in the end, we had almost 40 people and it was a great day, just not enough entertainment to keep me interested for 12 hours.

I was at the
Schottenhamel tent today. Our group had reservations at noon, but it was absolutely no problem to walk in and out of the tent almost all day long (at least until 5pm when I headed home). Amazing. In fact, we had two or three completely empty tables around us at different times during the afternoon. The band didn't really get going until about 3pm. You know it's a party when you hear a Queen song.

Yeh, I must say I was surprised at the lack of people today. Like you said, it was easy to walk in and out at least up until 16:30 at the Hacker, and likely even later. Getting a table was another issue, but still, a lot quieter than I thought it would be. Even yesterday was quieter than I thought. I spent most of the day in the beer garden outside the HB tent, but people were getting in there without a line at 2pm.
Was a good day down there still, definitely not one of the better bands in the Hacker though.

Anyone know where the TTers might be sitting in the Hacker tent? My husband wanted to go meet up with them if they're still there.
Chicago
Sep 17 2006, 7:29 pm
not sure if anyone will still be there, but the tables were right next to the band stand, on the west side (other side from the front doors)
EDIT: and I agree with Hutcho's comments on the music. yes the traditional stuff has a place, but it was so traditional it was boring (the music, not the company). My feeling is that the music selection was not entirely the choice of the tent - but related to the new "rules" about how much traditional music they have to play. (at least that is what I heard - if so, the traditionalist may be doing some real damage to the Oktoberfest, imho).
relevant movie quote:
- You vill join me in singing and dancing the "Guten Tag Hop Klop".
- ok...
- Key of E?
- ... is there any other?

@Hutcho. I was at Hacker yesterday; you couldn't have put it better. It was very disappointing, actually one of the worst tents I have been in so far. Apart from the cool ceiling, it does not have much going for it. And the band really was poor. Definitely last time I went to Hacker.
Cheers for the organisation hutcho, yeah hacker music sucked, started to pick up around 7:30 maybe, pig pen is still my fav but today was an awesome tt oktoberfest day. Was great catching up with peopla I havent talked to yet or havent talked to in ages,
let us know when the next tt oktoberfest meetup is.

Most of the bands play slowish music during the day. Helps keep the crowd calm. You don't need mayhem breaking out for the entire day, the evening is quite enough. It was the same story last year in whatever tent TT went to, my memory fails me.

I know for a fact that the Hofbräu tent was playing more lively music during the day, cause I heard it from outside when I was there on Saturday. I expected them to start out slow, but they should have picked it up a notch around 3pm or so..
Anyway, like other people have said, still a good day and a good turn out. Maybe we organise another for next Sunday..

Yep. We walked around yesterday and most tents were open (except Braurosl for Gay Sunday). I think people from say Freising, Regensburg etc. looked at the weather forecast early in the morning and decided not to make the trip into Munich based on that. That's why I think it wasn't that crowded...It was supposed to be a shit day, but it turned out perfect.
Have to agree aboot Hofbrau playing better music...we were stationed outside in tbe beergarten there...twas pretty lively inside.

I couldn't get into the Hacker tent, despite Renia's flirting with the doorman

I'm glad to hear everyone had fun though!!
Music was all Wiesen hits from just after 6 when the rock type band came on until just before 8.
They played only songs everyone knew like Viva Colonia, Country Roads, 54 74 90 2010, Rolling Stones and then went through the list of all the other Wiesen songs people know.
The whole tent was on the benches singing so it was like being in a a different tent compared to the afternoon. In fact I seem to remember that even the brass band played 54 74 towards the end of their set before the rock band came on and played it again.
I was in the Hacker last year and this year was the same from about 6pm. Last year I didn't arrive until about 6pm so I don't know if it was the same as this year during the afternoon.

We were in the Schottenhammel and it was lively without being overcrowded. Music was fairly staid until about 3.45 when they started to play all the singalong songs and everyone got up to boogie.
Lots and lots of photos were taken of the local wildlife and i look forward to seeing them all excepting perhaps one certain upskirt shot

The doors to Braurosl were shut at 1030 in the morning! The band started I guess with normal bavarian stuff until 14:00 or so, and then it was party time! All the classics were played and the usual appearance from mayor Christian Ude.
Lots of eye candy in the tent for everyone, but also way too much shicky micky inside.

Great night, happy I stayed so long in the Hacker tent, I ended up at the Schottenhammel later, well ended mostly dancing outside on the wooden floor where there was plenty of room for spins- I found some Germans and Australians to continue the dancing lessons that OG was giving me (OG is a gem, great dancer, thanks to ER for sharing him).
