Apartment rentals for World Cup 2006

Where to rent an apartment

Does anyone know how I could go about finding an apartment or house to rent during the World Cup in 2006? It could be in any of the cities hosting the games, but I would much rather it be Munich. I would like to rent for 3-4 weeks if possible. Thanks for the help.

ahead of the curveball, aren't ya? wink.gif how many people would be staying, what are your location requirements [e.g. in the heart of the city, near a train station or alteratively renting a car so will need parking?] and what are you looking to spend?

Although I admire your foresight, I do think you are asking a bit too early.

You can stay at my place for €1000 a week...
Showem
Oh, I can offer better than that. And more space. And more central.

i was thinking about this the other day, are there any letting agencies gearing up for the world cup already?

as someone with absolutely no interest in soccer, i'm perfectly willing to sublet my apartment at a hyper inflated price while i take an extended holiday... ph34r.gif

Noddy - I'm with you on this. I'll gladly take a holiday and have it paid for by someone staying at my place...

I actually reckon you guys have hit on a decent business idea.

There will be lots of Toytowners that are happy to give up their apartments for a few weeks at an inflated price during the World Cup. Same thing happens every year for the residents in Wimbledon for the tennis of course.

So we immediately have a ready supply of "properties to let". We know that demand will be coming...and the sooner you get your website or webpage up into Google the better.

All you need is brief apartment details etc, and then take a decent deposit in advance etc (or maybe even full payment).

The irony is that the #1 result on google presently for my 1st search term:

"apartment munich world cup" is of course Toytown!

Can't be bothered to do it myself but I think it is a pretty good idea - especially as lots of Brits will be happy to come over here, so you can offer a simple English speaking service.

Well I know people who do it with apartments just by the Wiesn. Rent out their apartments to rich foreigners for Oktoberfest and they take a holiday somewhere sunny - which is more than paid for by the two weeks rent!

I can almost spit on the new stadium from my place, and you also get first class food chez moi wink.gif

Defenitely considering running a B&B for a few weeks.

Noddy and folks,
What an timely thread! smile.gif
I'll be in Munich to work (for Yahoo) on the Worldcup website.. and am looking for a place to stay.. as an alternative to the hotel. I've contacted mrlodge (they say to check back in March)..

I am looking for a place:
- for two (my wife is coming along)
- from May 1st (or earlier) till June 1st (then we get shipped to Berlin for a month.. am looking there too for an apt)
- a kitchen
- within a km of Holzstrasse 30, 80469, Munich, DE
- somewhere secure-ish to put bikes (anywhere but the street)

There could be other yahoo folks interested in this option to the hotel. Am willing to pay mrlodge rates (or higher depending). The hotels make a killing on folks like me.. last time I was there (last spring), the company paid around 3000 euro for the month. Granted, it was the Derag with kitchenette, sauna and all that.

Thank you for any ideas or leads
-Gary

FYI, it is indeed supposed to be a zoo in Munich and Berlin especially from what I hear. Our Berlin hotel is charging 260e a night during the matches. tongue.gif
