The world premier of the movie Das Parfum (Perfume - the story of a murderer) takes place tonight, 8pm Thursday 7.Sep.2006, at the Mathäser cinema in Munich.

The lead actors Ben Whishaw, Alan Rickman, and Rachel Hurd-Wood are all expected to attend. Dustin Hoffman will not be present, however.

The movie was filmed at the Bavaria Film Studios in Munich during July 2005. In fact, Dustin himself was spotted by a TT reader out and about in town that summer.

Many TT readers have already seen this movie - myself included - as the test screening took place at Munich's Ari Kinos back in April.

At around €50 million, this is the most expensive German film production ever.

I'm not quite clear what language the premiere will be in, although I'm guessing English. The test screening we saw was in English.

Movie premieres at the Mathäser are worth going to even if you don't have a ticket. There's usually lots of glitz and glamour and you may catch sight of one or more of the stars in person. See the TT chat topic, for example, from the premiere in Munich of Kill Bill 2.

if there are other test screenings will you guys please post them? i was on holiday back then and haven't read about any other test screenings. they are always pretty cool to see. saw a few back in the states. kind of cool then to see the "final" version.

i've read das parfum in german so am pretty keen on how mr. t interprets this. in fact, the ending of the book is fantastic, rather gruesome. i wonder if this gets interpreted onto the big screen.

Same thing for me Mrs Peel.

If anyone knows, pls let us know!

I suspect it's quite likely that he will pity the fool.

Looks like the overall TT consensus is that the movie is crap. Really too bad as the book is excellent.
I'll probably go see it anyway.
UrbanAngel
I seem to remember most ppl thought it was good apart from 1 long boring bit in the middle which might possible be edited out. But I have a bad memory!

This was one of the quotes that I based my asessment on.

My written comment on the questionnaire:

"This movie was a disgrace to modern cinema. An abomination."

Made for fun post-movie chat though. And cute to see all the TTers frantically waving at one another across the room

i got the impression that opinions on the movie varied between those who have read the book and those who haven't. i was curious on how the various things were filmed.

I'll go see it because the book bored me to death the first 3 times I tried to read it. I always quit around page 30 or so. Everyone says it's such a good one, but I just couldn't get through it. So I'll be seeing the movie for sure, to get the 2-hour synopsis.
UrbanAngel
I bought the book a few months ago but never got around to reading it because (a) it's in German and (b.) I've been extremely busy. Maybe one day...
Moonboot
just read the thread about the preview showing, the opinions are based on the unedited version, let's see how it's chopped down...
I loved the book, it got quite twisted towards the end, am looking forward to seeing how that's gonna look on the big screen!

@ UA it's only a skinny book doesn't take long to read! go for it!
