Hitler's desk 'may sell for $1m'QUOTE
A desk and chair from Adolf Hitler's 1930s luxury apartment in Munich could be sold for over $1m (£500,000), says a British dealer overseeing the sale. ... They were in Hitler's apartment when he signed the joint declaration, ahead of WWII, with Neville Chamberlain in 1938.

Shouldn't this be on the "Furniture for Sale but not
IKEA"-thread?

apartment was on prinzregentenplatz and the 38 treaty was signed in the fuhrerbau on königsplatzt? or did they sneak off for a quick schnapps and a look at adolf's holiday plans for the next 7 years?

Amusingly enough, the desk was made by a Jewish furnisher called Ballin, who was later allowed to go to Switzerland by Göring. Ballin was also a Bayerischer Hoflieferant.

Ah yes Mr Gideon, but you're confusing your agreements here. The 38 Munich peace accords were indeed signed in the Fuhrerbau, but Neville popped round to Hitler's gaff on the way to the airport the next morning and obtained the now infamous 'bit of paper' where Hitler undertook to stick to 'peace in our time'. That piece of paper may well have been written on that desk.

(must admit your indepth knowledge does scare me sometimes, you should get out more often)

That's not knowledge mate - that's common knowledge. Surprised you didn't know it yourself. But yes, that piece of paper old Nev was waving might have been the Easyjet inflight magazine and/or it could have been signed on Hitler's crapper. We'll never know.

It doesn't say he signed the treaty at the desk. Only that the desk was in his apartment at the time.
I have two cupboards made in 1939 with stamps on the back featuring the eagle with swastikas underneath. Wonder what they are worth.

i always thought they were discussing holiday plans. as in peace and quiet. not peace. i somehow cant imagine adolf and eva doing easyjet, or "simplepropeller" as it would have been called then. can you imagine him running on to get a window seat?

Not much probably - I daresay there's tonnes of those about, and probably very hard to establish authenticity in any case. I've got some swastika stamped cutlery somewhere, and the notary's office I worked in had files bound in eagle and swastika emblazoned leather folders (dating back to the mid 30's). All of it not worth that much as so much of it was made.

You're sure it's an eagle and not the bailiff's cuckoo? They could have been impounded in lieu of payment and auctioned off.
Maybe, whats the bailiffs cuckoo supposed to look like? But I think it is the eagle.
