Tuesday Night Skate in Frankfurt

Rollerblading - every Tuesday during summer

I want to, but I think I won't be able to make the whole course. I was on skates for the first time since last summer last night and went from Bornheim to Frankfurt Süd Bahnhof, and my knee was really aching. (I just had a knee operation in March, but skating is supposed to be really good for me.) So I don't think I could do the whole 30 K, but thought it would be fun to see how long it takes before we get told to drop out. Apparently everyone really does wear helmets too.

I won't be carrying my Famous Green Umbrella, but I'll have my Less Famous Silver Bike Helmet on. And I'll have my cell phone and will want to trade numbers with anyone who'd like to come. Plus I think it'd be a good idea to meet somewhere a little ways away from the actual start point so that there aren't hundreds of people around to sort through... and I didn't end up going last week because I wasn't going to meet anyone but if someone else says they will go then I will really have to show up. wink.gif

I'm really going this time, I'm not kidding!

And I figured out why it's my Famous Green Umbrella -- it's related to the Famous Blue Raincoat.

only the first 20 minutes of rain were bad, after that the streets weren't so slippery. It's changed my mind about skating in the rain. My knee almost doesn't hurt anymore today so I think I'll be ready for some more pain tomorrow (remember, I just got it operated on in March, it's not skating in and of itself that hurts) -- anyone coming along? They do leave damn punctually, so I'll want to be there at 8:15 at the latest. I'll pm you my handy number if you'd like to come along! I didn't find the pace really to be that fast last week, and I'm quite out of shape (ONLY because of the operation of course!) and I kept up fine. Even with the bum knee.

So?

Oh I wish I'd brought my camera - this week it's going by "einem ehemaligen US-Hauptquartier" -- I bet that's the IG Farben Hochhaus. I just took a tour there Sunday evening:

going again tonight, 5. Sept. 2006, hopefully with my Kugellager ausgetauscht. Haven't get the old ones out though so they're soaking in WD40 until I get home...
infos in the Calendar

Must get this thread straightened out, maybe just one thread that gets archived every week like the Tuesday Drinks in Munich one does.
Gen
Ah very nice one thread that's all mine, just for me. So far. Anyone else want to come along, you're really welcome to, honest! I have new skates now so I should be muuuuch better able to keep up and my knee shouldn't hurt as much anymore either, I hope... don't think I'll be able to brake as well though. And this week should be the first non-rainy week I've been along on!

Gen's skate blog continues, but last night snoffy and Grimsby were both there and in much better form than I. Grimsby in particular didn't seem to have to move very much to speed along and he and snoffy chatted up a storm while I was huffing and puffing. Official pictures from the skate are here: http://t-n-s.de/media/foto2006/25-tns-12-09-06/index.html I think they both even went on the extra-fast round of 12 additional kilometers at the end -- they neglected to announce it, so I was really glad I happened to notice that we were nearly back at the starting point and I could turn off.

Next week is the first non-"Back-to-the-Roots" event -- also back up to regular speed. I'll try to keep up.

BTW I got my ball bearings switched out at Sport Arena at Hauptwache 1, great service there -- 5 Euros to change them and I hadn't even bought them there! I'm never taking out my own again. All skates are on sale now at the end of the season and my new ones were 80 Euros marked down from 179!
Gen
darn it I forgot to post during working hours -- anyone coming along tonight? Last chance for me as I plan to blow this burg before long... er, unless my contract here gets extended again.

Oh and they extended the Back to the Roots thing through September. Shoulda mentioned that too.
Number 10
Well, not a skater but i just felt it was about time someone else posted on this thread wink.gif

Saw the skate last night whizz past us at the Tower Bar, didn't seem as many there as usual...and i noticed there were ambulances in tow...is that normal ? Anyway, kept an eye out for you but couldn't spot ya sad.gif

Hope you had a cool time tho...
Gen
Thank you for your support!

There are always ambulances in tow yes, just in case.

I didn't see anyone I knew last night either -- snoffy? Grimsby? Were you there?

I won't be going next week as I'll probably still be in the train back from my long weekend in Munich...
Little Britain
well I finally got the ball rolling and went to look at buying some new blades last night, have identified some decent ones that I like so will be closing the deal tonight.

I think that TNS finishes for the winter soon, either way I will be up for meeting up to do some skating each week! smile.gif
Gen
oh dear are you going to ask me to take an earlier train back so I can go next week too? I betcha Grimsby could keep up with you though.
