Addresses for Portuguese bakeries in Berlin

I am dying for a Pastel de Nata!

I've lived here for almost a year now and still looking for a Portuguese bakery or a cafe. The only Portuguese person I met and asked, gave vague directions to some place in Wedding but it's like looking for a needle in a haystack!

Just returned from 2 months in Mexico City where I found Pasteis de Nata within 3 days ... and that's one crazy place to get around!

Anyone have any clue? blink.gif

You are in luck...

There's a Portuguese (actually run by Portuguese people AFAIK) café near Rosenthalerplatz on the corner of Weinbergsweg and Zehdenickerstrasse. It's called Galao but possibly doesn't have the name visible.

They do have bakery products, and the ones you are looking for. They also have other Portuguese produce too.

I go there regularly, the staff are very nice, so you don't get the typical miserable German "service".

Enjoy!

Thanks for the useful info Seán! I have located the area on the map and am going to find it. Yumm ... my mouth is watering already ... tongue.gif

I found Galão today! Rather than take 2 U-Bahns got into the car and went for a drive. There were only 4 pasteis left and I bought the lot! Not bad, the filling was rich but pastry was a bit heavy/chewy ... that's usually the best part. Best ones to date are in Johannesburg, Mexico City and of course, Portugal.

My search for the ultimate Pastel de Nata abroad continues ... biggrin.gif

Thanks again!

yeah. german (berlin area) pastries seem to be a bit off when it comes to lightness. Not like the stuff I had in holland, much lighter.
