In the early hours of the morning I bought a kebab from a Kebab shop in Hoponandoff. I paid 5.50 euro. I paid with a 10 euro note. I got may change.
When I emptied my pockets today I noticed that I had two coins from turkey, they look similar to 2 euro coin. They were 1 lirasi from turkey. Not happy about that.
Has this happened before?

Were you drunk at the time ? This has happened to me a couple of times while under the influence. But then they have to deal with lots of drunken people coming in, so in that respect, its your own fault for not checking.

How can you say it is his own fault for someone conning him! Sure, he let it happen by not being observant, but they played the dirty trick.

Yeah I was drunk. Thats why I thaught It was a good idea to eat a kebab at 4am monday morning. I guess a aussie drunk 4am is a easy target.
I serve drunk people all the time, I dont go giving chance in aussie dollers.

After a heavy night out it's always a voyage of discovery for me to find out what money i have left in my pockets, if any at all

You know, it's a shame about the change but you have to admit, it's hard to beat a good kebab after a couple of beers.

I still miss the kebab shop in wollongong...
Turkish kebabs are not bad... but where is the cheese, homus, chilli sauce and the choice of beef or lamb...
I would gladly pay 10€ for one of those

Ok - not the same level of damage, but still.

Sep 4 2006, 7:44 pm
I could not agree more. Aussie Kebabs are great. They are just a different level of Kebabs. And you are not going to get short changed at 4am in aus, you might get in a fight but not short changed.
Ahhh Lamb kebab with bbq sauce and cheese and that weird stuff vegos eat

Did you consider at all the possibility that it was an accident? That you weren't short changed but that the person dealing with you simply hadn't noticed that someone had slipped them the coins. You said they look pretty similar.
Aussie Steve
Sep 4 2006, 7:59 pm
Nope no accident.

Sep 4 2006, 8:00 pm
Either way it sucks, Keydeck. If you switch a Canadian penny for an American penny it's not a big deal, but if you get a Turkish Lira back, it's only worth like 53 Euro cents. Yeah, it could have been a mistake, but what the hell do you want with some useless Turkish lira?
oooh- hang on- Will they work in the cigarette machines?
Edit:
Steve, I just read your profile "Aussie Steve- Veteran wannabe"

It's a Turkish kebab shop near
Hauptbahnhof, an area with a large Turkish population who are not unknown to eat food from their native country. It's 4am so he's tired and probably not entirely alert. The coins are in the till through whatever means and you're saying it isn't at all possible that a mistake was made.
And eh, your name is to the left of your post. No need to sign it

Why not just take them back. Seriously. Go in and say, hey mate, I run the xxx place (or whatever) and was in here the other nite. Well, seems your buddy gave me these things instead of 2 euro coins (or whatever).
Either they will go - "Oh shit, that stupid f*ck on the night shift, here you go" or they will go "No clue what you are on about, go away".
If they say the latter, let us know. I will walk by sometime next week personally and say, "Gee, I would like a döner, but not from here - I hear you give people turkish lira for change"
Ok - it might not get your money back, but a drop in the pail ...

I think the real question here is "Do the coins work in cigarette machines here?" If so, I'll swap you those worthless coins for two 2-Euro coins and we'll do a good deed by screwing over the cigarette machine vending company.

you could always fashion the useless coins into teeny tiny lethally sharp throwing stars and head back to the shop that swindled you and lob away!
get drunk first though, am sure your drunken body will automatically guide you back to the right shop!
