Setting up T-DSL with a Speedport router

Technical help configuring DSL home internet

Thanks to everyone who helped me get my DSL up and running!

I now have my Speedport W 500V wireless router functioning. The main system is connected to my Mac G5 and I have a DELL PC connected via a wireless G PCI card.

I'm having a little trouble navigating the settings for the router though and my German is too rusty to help much.

Long story short is that I want to play HALO with my son over the two computers I have connected. I think my problem is that I need to open some ports. (2302, 2303) but I can't figure out where to do this.

Any help is appreciated!

Hi Slippp

this is an easy one. The first thig is to free up your computers then open the ports for these. Its different to other routers but as i have the same router and have done this then follow on smile.gif
First find out both computers IP & name.
Go into your router config (http://192.168.2.1)

and click on Netzwerk
then pick Nat & Portregeln
Then PC's Übernehmen & Freigeben
where the IP is from the first computer add the name and click on the button Übern. after this.
You end up back at the previous menu.
now click on the Port-Weiterleitung button
Then Neue Regel defenieren
The pulldown menu you dont need so leave blank.
Where is say Bezeichnung add any title you want such as "HALO1" (HALO" for the second computer)
Click the Aktiv box to activate this
Gültig fürpulldown menu pick out the first computer and
TCP or UDP add the port to free up
Dont forget to click on the Speichern<< button on the bottom to save this to the router.

repeat the whole process for the second computer. To get back to the start just click on Netzwerk

Yes, that is exactly what I have. I just plugged everything in and it worked straight away. My modem used 192.168.2.1 by default and gave a 192.168.2.* address to the router. The router then gave out 192.168.1.* addresses to everything connected to it. Obviously you will need to configure the modem to connect to your ISP and the router for any wireless settings.

You are probably over-complicating things as the W500V is already a modem/router/WiFi/VoIP unit. Adding the DL-624 duplicates the router, firewall and WiFi functions and complicates (read slows-down) your IP routing. Setting up the correct subnets will work, as already suggested, but why do you need the D-Link box in the first place? If you want more than one wired connection (the 500V only has one) then simply buy a cheap hub or switch. You may have problems with your Vonage hardware when you get it. Vonage only provide pre-configured phones or routers, and there may be network conflicts with the VoIP functionallity already provided with the W500V. If you must have a US VoIP service, consider Broadvoice - they have international calling plans from $19.95 ($5 cheaper than Vonage), can provide a US number in the area code of your choice, and don't force their hardware on you. You get SIPlogin details which you can programme directly into the W500V for more efficient use.

i dont have the W500V i have the 500V the key difrence being that it doesnt have wireless so i wanted to use my dlink as for the whole vonage/broadvoice issues i already have a vonage account so im halfway stuck. do i have to use the provided 500V or could i buy a differnt modem? id prefer using what i have...
YorkshireLad6
You can use what you have, but it would be MUCH simpler if you got a simple DSL modem to front up the D-Link. This would also be more likely to work correctly with Vonage.

any recomendations? im not familure with german hardware? have you had any exsperince with german hardware?

BTW thank you for your help in this matter.

There's not much to choose between them. Typical new price (e.g. for a Teledat LAN430) is around €89, but you can get second hand ones much cheaper .e.g Ebay here where one is sitting at €4.50 with less than 2 hours to go. Just be careful that older ones do not support the faster DSL-6000 or the new ADSL2+ (16Mbit) connections in case this is important to you.

i wish i had 16mbps connection, but i am limited to like 2mbps becouse of where i am...thanks

Hello all,

I have an ISDN service(T-com Eumex x400 ISDN), I just got my DSL service(T-com dsl 6000 with Speedport 500v router) and I would like to use ISDN and DSL together.
But I could not get any information HOW TO CONNECT them together.I found some information on the Speedport 500v router book -It did not work.

After that i had strange feelings like SPEEDPORT 500v doesnt support ISDN and i called t-com technic service they say, I can use them together without problem. maybe cabeling problem?
Now if works ,HOW CAN I MAKE CABLE CONNECTION BETTWEEN SPEEDPORT 500V and ISDN BOX?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks

There is no need to connect the speedport to the ISDN service...

From the splitter to the Eumex and from the Splitter to the Speed port... The only two connections you need.

Hello Grinner,

I would like to thank you for having answered my message so promptly. Unfortunately however, it still does not work. I do not really understand where is the problem.

I do the same connection what bloody T-com shows. I spent all my time just understanding (##%$$#!!!) german instruction.
Hook
Hello again,

OK, I called T-Com and the problem was on the line. They'll contact me again later this week. I hope it'll work then.

Many thanks!

I have been given a Speedport w 500 V Router with my new T-Com phone and DSL account. Easy to set up, even with my limited Germam but I have run into trouble with a Sipgate VOIP account. I can recieve incoming calls from a virtual UK 0845 local rate number on the new German Dect phone attched to the Router.

I cannot, however, establish outgoing calls - not with manual 2# switching or with Speedialing shorcuts. I get the thre tones that preceed the German "Number Unobtainable" message "Kein anslusch . . . "

The Sipgate help line have ot come up with an aswer.

Any experts out there. Any ideas?

hi - can anyone please help me... mad.gif

I realise that this topic has been discussed - but I'm not really that clear on anything that I've read.

Basically - I have DSL with T-Online, they've given me a speedport500v router and my download speeds are poor for a 100mb connection (~34Kbits - poor or what)

As I speak little German the manual means nothing to me.

Can anyone out there please tell me how I go about (step by step) improving my download speed? Do I need to do any extra config with the router etc? Open ports or such like?

Any advice is greatly appreciated...

Thanks
Mal

How are you measuring your download speed? Where are you downloading from?

T-Online has a good pipeline around Germany and to much of Europe, but its connections into international backbones (e.g to the US) can be poor. Check our a number of different international speed tests here or ones more local to you here

Which flavour of DSL do you have? -1000, -2000, or -6000? ("100mb" is a bit meaningless) - or maybe even the reduced offerings such as 576, or -3000? Do you have *written* proof ("Auftragsbestätigung") of this line capability?

Have you tested the line at different times of the day or week? Contention on the circuit (i.e. neighbours sharing the same bandwidth) can often have a dramatic effect of actual speeds at certain times of the day.

Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum so forgive me if a similar question has already been posted.
I didn't find a specific answer in the search.

I've just heard from T_com that they are going to ship me a W700V along with my new Comfort Surf rate.
Does any one know if I can configure the W700V for 10 MSNs? I downloaded the "Bedienungsanleitung" and it only shows a screenshot where 3 MSNs can be entered.

I am a bit surprisded that i am getting a W700 because Telekom's current ad mentions a W500V.
On the other hand all my phones will be ISDN so I think I can't connect them to a W500V or a W700V anyway.
The W900V seems to be setup for connection of ISDN phones.

Thanks in advance for any replies.
faceface
I have the W 700V, or the W 7001V ... I think... (The name of the box has a W and a 7 in it...)

I have an analogue DSL phone (not ISDN), which is plugged in via the splitter and router and is working happily.

The 'DSL' and 'Online' lights are on and green. The 'Status' lamp is off (flickers during 'boot-up').

Any English manual for the router config? How about an English firmware? Can I hack, I mean patch the firmware to Linux?

Basically I can ping 'www.google.com' (DNS is working) and the router correctly assigns my PC an IP via DHCP, but I can't surf. So it is the usual problem when you get a cable modem 'out of the box'.

The web config. for the box seems to have a default password, but where do I set the password for the wireless network? And how should I get the internet working? Clicking places causes things to happen, or not, depending on what you don't expect.

I am Linux based, and I know that the CD of 'setup' software that comes with the router is usually garbage - should I boot into windows anyway to see if it helps?

I have a nice Linux based wireless router that I understand - this piece of cheep plastic that I didn't want I don't understand... like what is all this telephony business?

I would really like to know what I am doing, so any guides on what the thing is and what it does would be really great. My German ist nicht. I would like to learn about VOIP, because I don't know a thing.

The 'convenient' web configuration via 168.192.2.1 is (as usual) a crappy half borked web-page that I would refuse to click on if I opened it in my browser while surfing. What is it about important pages that inspires bad html? Perhaps it is just the lack of Apache...

Anyway...

I read other posts but they all seem to say 'it works now' rather than 'to get it to work you need to...'

Thanks for any help, and hello... I am new!

P.S. if I get the DSL wireless router up and running, can I connect my PC to the wireless network via my LinkSys W something L? I.E. can I use my old wireless router as a wireless 'pickup' point for my PC?

i.e.

--- T-Kommt --- DSL cable ---> |W701V| --- wavy etherial lines --->

the void of space

>--- wavy lines ---> |my LinkSis| --- LAN ---> |my PC| --- images ---> my face

???

Seems my linksis can send and receive 'wireless' signals, it should be able to work like this and save me the problem of drilling through a wall to lay the ethernet cable.

Thanks again,

Dan.

Sheesh...

Use the search function..

Like I said, I didn't find what I wanted... I will try again though.

Ing? What happened to my post?

Seems my original post was added to the end of a randomly selected other post...

Oh well... I tried searching the forum again, but still no joy - found some links to support website, and conveniently all the useful information is either PDF or flash, so no easy translation for me (I use Google language tools).

So ... pdftotext, cut paste sigh...

as for flash! Pah!

so ... if anyone can help me find the answers to the questions I posted ...

There is so much negativity in your post and so much verbal dressing that I struggle to understand what the basic problem(s) is(are)...

I recently upgraded T-com's package for 60 euros a month and got the shiny new Speedport 700 for 60 euros. After fiddling with it for a few, I got it up and running. (funny side note: I didn't 'enable' the cable connection at first and accidentally started to mess with my neighbor's Teledat router via wireless because they stupidly forgot to change their password from 0000 and ran it unsecured WEP/WAP)

I used to have the 1000 kbps package, running on a Teledat 331 and a NetGear router. A typical download of 350mb used to take 2 hours, but with the new super fast (by comparison) speed of 6000, that should take 20 minutes. Unfortunately, my new download speeds never clocked over 2500 and downloads still looked to be the same duration. Also, the router kept cutting out every 30 minutes or so, which is frustrating if you are downloading stuff without a download manager, or trying to watch TV online, etc. Since my old TeledatLan 331 could still handle up to 3000 kbps so the choice was clear- Return the new Speedport and reconnect the old equiptment.

No problem. Just curious about my download speeds now. They never seemed to change. True, I was only paying for 1000 kbps, but that must have been higher somehow... I never did check that before the upgrade. Now I have "6000" but that is stifled by the limitations of the existing phone lines either in the building, the street, the block, etc. The 350mb battlestar galactica still takes 2 hrs to download, but somehow I am paying less with the new package- Murphy's law, I guess. And I still could mess with my neighbor now. Download soft kiddy porn or google "bomb bush hitler limp bizkit marmite beatles richard simmons" or something similar to land them in jail. ph34r.gif

Lastly, the tip of the day for help with those people needing to speak Germenglish to a phone operator to help you set T-com equiptment up, there is a phone number you can call Kostenlos: 0800 330 3333 A German speaker will answer and find you an english speaker if you need it, or bumble through if you can speak a little german.

Hi Guys,

I might be being obtuse here but, I got so far but don't know what port settings to input. Any ideas?
bbulldog
You only need to open ports if you need an application/game to run over these.
Skeptic
I looks like I have discovered the right place to ask my question.

I have a Linksys, Wireless-G PCI card in my computer that worked very well with my Conceptronic wireless router in Kaiserslautern. Now that we have moved to Grafenwoehr and changed systems (from cable access to T-Com DSL) I am having problems.

I can find no settings on the Conceptronic that will allow me internet access over the phone system. T-Com provided me with a series of numbers that will only work with their router it appears. No IP, no MAC addresses or anything remotely what I am used to.

Unfortunately the Speedport 700 they provided will not talk to my Lynksys card so I cannot get into the router to configure it. It appears that they are using different wireless standards.

Can anyone tell me how to get my Lynksys card to talk to the Speedport or get my Conceptronic to talk to the T-Com interface?

Also does anyone know where I can find an English version of the Speedport manual?
YorkshireLad6
Your Conceptronic wireless router does not contain the required DSL modem to use with Telekom DSL. You will either need to buy one separately or use the V700W that has been supplied (which is a modem/router/wifi/VoiP adapter)

I can think of no reason why your Linksys card will not work with the V700W - some security services (WPA2) may not be mutually supported, but I suggest you have simply not configured the router correctly, if at all (turn on WLAN for example, or made the SSID public?). It's not recommended to perform initial configurations over WLAN in any case (as the WLAN is almost certainly by default, off) - you should do this in the first instance with a cabled connection.

T-Online (not T-Com) have provided you with the "numbers" - these can be directly entered into the router setup pages to establish the PPPoE connection over DSL

There is no English guide to the (German!) V700W
Skeptic
Thanks much YourkshireLad6,

With your help I got the internet up and running making my family very happy.

I completely missed the WLAN button on the router. You were right that it has to be set up initially hardwired. Folks at T-Com and their support desk were marginally helpful. Found out that if I turn on the WEP or the SSID on the Speedport 700 that I lose connection to my Wireless-G PGI card even though I set up the card's profile with exactly the same WEP and SSID information. Must be an incompatibility somewhere. I need to do some further research and try to fix that because I hate having an open router. Oh well, as long as the wife is happy...
Skeptic
Well life has taken another U-turn. My Speedport 700 router suddenly no longer talks to my Wireless-G card. We had a storm yesterday so that may be the cause but nothing else was affected so I cannot say for sure.

I can no longer get into the configuration program. I can get to the opening page, and the password page, then the next page I get is the standard IE 'cannot connect to the server' error message (in English). At no time does it indicate that I am using the wrong password.

Called the help desk twice and both times the customer support rep spoke no English. My (bad) German is conversational, not technical but I think I understood enough.

The first person told me to push the reset button on the bottom of the router. (*DUH*, the word RESET is right there too). No joy. Read the manual and held the button for 2, 5, and 10 seconds. No joy. Each time I tried my password, the default '0000', and a blank password. Same results each time. The unit was connected to the workstation and powered up for each try.

The second rep wants me to go into the software, which is at home right now, and look at the help there. Start, Toolbar, Kugel (ball, sphere?). I'll try that tonight.

I am afraid my family will go into internet withdrawl if I cannot get it fixed quickly.

Suggestions anyone? I don't like the idea of having to purchase a new router.
YorkshireLad6
After entering the password a second IE window opens. Sounds like IE might not be liking this - this problem might relate more to IE than to the router or software. Check popup/security settings or try a different browser such as Firefox.
