OK have done several searches and found lots of great recipes.
But what I really want are some good smoothie recipes people have stumbled across using German ingredients, like which plain yogurt is the best to use, where do you find good frozen fruit etc.

I have never made a smoothie, but homemade limes, and I find the MiniMal/HL shops- Salto frozen fruits are very good. Even the JA yougurt is yummy.
Aldi yougurt the plain is also very nice.

I also use the Salto frozen fruits from MiniMal but mix them with only fruit juices (I dislike plain yogurt) - is a nice refreshing very cold fruit smoothie. I vary the juices and berries to what ever I have at the moment. You can never go wrong when making a smoothie.

Aldi usually carry big bags of frozen fruit as well for cheap - two kinds: mixed berries (blueberries, rasberrys, etc) and tropical fruit (melon, kiwi, peach, etc). The latter one can make for a very refreshing smoothy when it's hot out.

Ahh good tips, I like the mixed fruit ideas thanks Eriiki! It's so much easier than storing all fresh stuff.
Today, I made peach raspberry, one cup rasp, one peach diced, cup of plain yogurt, some milk and honey. Yum was a nice breakfast.
Do you guys use ice or not? Some recipes swear by ice others don't mention it. Is it better?

I keep as few bananas in the freezer - yes frozen. Adding a frozen banana to a smoothie makes it very thick and creamy- yummy!

What about bags of ice-cubes, does anywhere in Munich sell these? I find they go nicely with a fruit smootie.

Canned fruit works well too - I can be bothered to peel fruit and to use it quickly.
As for the ice I always add it if it's hot but it really depends what sort of thickness you like.

I would use ice if I could, just makes it more refreshing (I despise a lukewarm smoothie). Currently I only have a handheld mixer that can't handle it, so it's not really an option for me. So I just make sure that all my ingredients that I add are as cold as possible (the frozen banana is a good idea).
A quick way to experiment with flavors is to add some kind of good quality juice - exotic blends, marajuca, or whatever. There's millions of them.

My favorite smoothie is called Razzmatazz and comes from a smoothie chain in the U.S. called Jamba Juice. The recipe is raspberry juice blend, orange sherbet, frozen strawberries, frozen bananas, ice, with a shot of multivitamin powder.
I never seem to be able to make is as well at home as Jamba Juice does, so my favorite home recipe is frozen berries mix (strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, etc.) with a fresh banana, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. Sometimes I have to add a bit of ice, but usually not.
KEY to smoothie success is a very powerful blender. The hand-held jobs just won't do the trick.
*Sigh* feeling homesick for a 'real' American smoothie... The smoothies that I find in shops her and there in Germany are just muck as far as I am concerned. And warm to boot! Blech...

Yes made a banana peach one this morning, must say that ice is much nicer (me blender has ice crush setting). Warm yogurt is blech
Gonna buy some of the frozen fruit, got a great Hohes C Roter Vitamin juice to throw in, gonna also try flavoured yogurt. If anyone has any more interesting recipes please share.

i've only a hand blender so i add in frozen strawberries as an ice cubes...by the time i'm finished the smoothie they're soft enough to eat.

anyone ever use Goji fruit or juices? Was reading an article yesterday in bbc about it is the highest Vitamin C fruit.
