Wies'n-feeling above the clouds.

Passengers won't get a Maß, but they will be served by attendents in Blue Dirndl's for the women smile.gif and Tracht for the men.

Details via lufthansa.com: Crew in traditional costumes to set the mood for Oktoberfest.

The uniforms are premiering today on a flight from Munich to New York and will be seen on flights from Munich to New York, Washington, Shanghi und Tokyo.

QUOTE
"Lufthansa is thus not only setting the mood for the fifth Bavarian season, the 'Oktoberfest'. We also want to demonstrate that we feel at home at our southern hub and in Bavaria", said Karl Ulrich Garnadt, Group Representative and Head of Hub Management Munich.

In the history of Lufthansa, there was one other occasion when the uniform was replaced by traditional costumes: in 1957 the airline reported: “Lufthansa stewardesses in genuine Dirndls will serve passengers during the period of Munich’s ‘Oktoberfest’ from 17th September to 2nd October on flights from New York to Hamburg and the passengers from London to Munich from 21st September to 5th October“. On these routes, blonde female flight attendants wore light blue Dirndls, while their dark-haired colleagues wore pink dresses.

Dirndls for female attendants... that should make for some interesting views while drinks and food are being served. biggrin.gif
Beg Tets
Not with the titless skinbags Lufthansa employ it wont

I think we should visit Lupo, Airbräu and check out the flight crews all in one go.
HEM
At least the cockpit crews wont be dressed up...

I was on a flight with an all-female crew (2 in cockpit & 2 in cabin) once & that was Lufthansa.
Carm
I think that is cool.
planetmoni
the press release says that they are Gössl dirndl... one of my favrourite dirndl makers...
not sure i like the idea as i cannot decide between oktoberfest is getting too commercial (lufthansa is not bavarian) and spreading nice dirndls...
Allershausen
Munich is a pretty important hub for Lufthansa though and more women smile.gif in Dirndls cannot be a bad thing!
bern
Tracht is way better than the ugly, ill fitting polyester suits they normally have to wear. Dirndls rock!

Maybe it's time to find a new name for the small room at the front of the aircraft.
Keydeck
That made me chuckle, thanks.

Also prompted me to look up the etymology of the word.

QUOTE
The origin of the word "cockpit" extends back hundreds of years. Originally, the word was used to describe the pit or enclosed area where cockfights were conducted. As a name for the scene of such grisly matches, which were most probably conducted first in China, the word migrated west and in the 16th century the word appeared in English. By the 1700s, cockpit was used as a metaphor for any scene of combat, although in naval parlance the word was used to describe the area below decks on a man-o-war where the wounded were evacuated. World War I aviators adopted the word cockpit in 1914 to describe the cramped place where the pilot sits. It has enjoyed this common use since, to include the more capacious area of a large jetliner where, instead of conflict, aircrews coordinate their actions.

So there were cockpits in the cockpit then, right?
