I am currently trying to sell a boat in England that was originally sold as new in Germany. The person who is buying our boat needs proof that the VAT was paid when the boat was new. I have a letter from the company that sold the boat saying that the VAT was paid but this seems to be insufficient.

They want a letter from the German Tax Office saying its been paid so my question is does anyone Know the address or telephone Number for the correct tax office I should be contacting.

P.S. The boat was sold new some 16 years ago.

Whichever Finanzamt the company was registered with at the time. Presumably you no longer have the receipt...?
Goodness Gracious
"Finanzamt" is the German word for "Tax Office".

Each state has their own tax office. So yes, you should contact the one where the company was registered.

See the list of contact details for all tax offices: http://www.steuerthek.de/finanzaemter/

The webportal for all German tax offices is at: http://www.bzst.de/

Unfortunately we do not have the original sales/VAT receipt and this is why we have a problem.

Thanks for the information I will contact them and try and get a result.
